old men get beaten up and robbed....
Something I barely noticed in the last run, I must say. It tended to feel more on the level of the townspeople roughing up Dr. Coppelius. I don't know whether that was an intentional change.

... Unlike the person somewhere behind me in the concert last night (as soon as the quiet movement started) ...

Ah, in that case it will be rather more restricted than you might think from the photo. @Dawnstar can probably comment better than I can, but bear in mind that the stage is rectangular, so you will lose much of what's happening in the rear left-hand "corner". I'd hazard a guess that you'll probably be able to see something like a triangle stretching from the proscenium arch on your side to the p. arch on the right and the rear right-hand corner of the stage. Also, you'll have a vertical restriction from the lighting rig shown in the photo.

Welcome to the forum, Lucy. Is it stalls or stalls circle?

They used to tape a cast sheet to the wall on each auditorium level. Has that disappeared now? That's not good. Rather than giving away a printed cast sheet to each person who asks, they should pin them up.
It had when I was there, hence why I was asking whether that was still the case.

Thanks, Sheila. On the other hand, that doesn't actually solve the problem I was asking about, which is that if you don't have a QR code reader you are stumped. That could easily be remedied by replacing one of the QR posters, of which there have been several per floor, in my experience, with a printed cast sheet.

Welcome to the forum, Rachel. I hope you'll get some other useful information here.

I must admit, I had originally assumed that "Scherzo Ensemble" might have been the name of the dance "company", unlikely as it seemed.

BTW, can anyone confirm if ENB have yet started putting up an actual cast list, rather than just a QR code for it? #digitalexclusion

The Spurling probably need to be seen in the context of the set as well: IIRC, it was an old-fashioned swimming bath?

The same thing also happened to Darcey Bussell once- injury during the ballet - and her Lilac Fairy, Marianela Nunez (who was scheduled to dance Aurora later in the run, I think), stepped in to dance the rest of the ballet for her.
Didn't something similar happen with Belinda Hatley replacing Bussell mid-performance, too?

Is Hirano still down for Requiem in this, bearing in mind his withdrawal from other roles?

IIRC, it was VERY last-minute, I was going to say for the cinema broadcast only, but I'm trying to remember whether Cuthbertson did the previous show. I don't think she did, but did someone else cover? Actually, I think she did pull out, but hoped to be back for the cinema, but wasn't. I'm sure someone with a better memory than me will confirm.

I don't believe so, although the costumes/sets may be different, I suppose.

As was the one Ross Stretton introduced at the Royal Ballet around the turn of the century, and which was recorded.

I feel the same way. The virtuosic moves can be thrilling but are short-lived for me.
I think the point of the original poster (capybara?) was that the double-doubles, while virtuosic, were used to express Siegfried's joy or whatever at having found the woman he loved, as he thought.

Oh good, thanks, Anna - I'd been hoping they would leave it up for a while, but couldn't see anything to confirm that.

I thought it had been encouraged? Can't remember what I picked that up from, though.

I suspect it probably is, too. Is it linked to dancers taking curtain calls "in character"? Anyway, as long as it's "good-hearted" I don't suppose it matters much - it's still a compliment.

I certainly thought that what we saw in "Carlos at 50" was a distinct improvement on the RB performances, and that perhaps it will just suit his own company better. Plus it's about twice as long as the original version, so who knows? Still can't decide whether to go and see it, though, so I'd better make up my mind fast.

Plenty of seating, but not of tables. Or power sockets. (Or even WiFi) Both should have been provided on trains where your journey could easily be of several hours.
Carlos Acosta new school Woolwich - any experiences?
