  1. Thanks everyone for helping me through this, its hard being a mum sometimes! I think once we have some feedback we can reflect and make decisions. Well done you dd swe for her determination and success!
  2. Anjuli apologies for not responding to your post before now but it has been a difficult few days. She was as I expected utterly devastated and slept in my arms all night, as a mum it was all I could do. However as the quote goes" tomorrow is another day" and she was subdued but calmer and was clear she was not ready to give up just yet. DD performed at the show that night and brought tears to my eyes she is so expressive when she dances. There were lots of lovely comments and the annual award for excellence in dance for her age group was given to her! More tears from me and just the confidence boost she needed as the dance teachers are based in various schools and collectively they chose her..I have requested some feedback re mids so we shall await a response and take it from there .The lady sitting next to me at the show who didn't know my Dd said "that wee lass just draws you in" a real Scottish compliment! .Anyway onwards and upwards and thank you all again for the support you are all the only ones who can truly empathise.x .
  3. Thank you legseleven I will look at the ballet West Option!x
  4. Thank you both for your kind words. There are some positives bluebell as she can keep up her drama class now and possibly take on extra classes at her own dance school which I am going to focus on. We are a bit far away from ballet west but maybe summer school next year. I guess I will just have to be on hand with the tissues and the hugs!
  5. Hi All I really need your advice, we have just received a no letter for Scottish ballet mids after being a JA there for 2 years. I haven't yet told my dd as she has a dance show tonight and tomorrow and her P7 leavers dance on Thursday night and I don't know what to do! I know she is going to be utterly distraught and just need some wise advice on how to break the news and deal with the after effects. Thank you all in advance.x
  6. Sorry to hear your dds shoes weren't suitable. Hope she wasn't too disappointed My dd had teachers approval on Monday so ribbons etc now on! She even had a few seconds en pointe as,part of the teachers check, said it felt amazing! Both went to see Scottish Ballet Romeo and Juliet tonight which was fantastic. First Pointe class is tomorrow!x
  7. Apologies taxi4ballet your advice re padding was great she tried them on with padding!x
  8. Pointe shoes bought! Had a lovely day the fitter spent a long time with DD and she tried numerous pairs on. Narrowed down to 2 then the test for DD! The fitter said he could see which pair were better for my DD but could she? My daughter gave her reply and then she was asked to explain why she had chosen a particular pair. DD said she felt the chosen shoes held her foot better. The fitter agreed. We shall seek approval from DDs teacher on Monday. The shoes are bloch serenade if that means any thing?! Thank you so much for your post Anjuli it was most helpful.
  9. Thank you all so much for your kind and wise advice. I will def trim her nails tonight after her bath.x
  10. Thank you for the sound advice. Dd dance teacher has a favourite fitter/ shop so we are off shopping tomorrow! Think it opens at 10 bet Dd has,me standing there early waiting for it to open!
  11. That would be so helpful Anjuli I would greatly appreciate your expertise.
  12. Thank you both! Think I have liked your comments but not sure! Using my phone which has a mind of its own! DD fast asleep dreaming of pointe shoes and tutus no doubt.
  13. One very excited 12 year old DD, has just been advised she is ready for her first Pointe shoes! I will be avidly reading old posts prior to our shopping trip. Hope you dont mind me sharing with you all but no one else understands! Any Pointers (sorry!) are most welcome. Havent posted in ages but have been lurking!
  14. Well done to all the yes-es and will keep fingers crossed for the waiting list dancers . Big hugs to all those with not this time letters. Don't give up we had a no letter for rbs last year but a yes for Scottish Ballet this year. Good things come to those who wait and a year can make a big difference! Balletshoesx
  15. Thanks everyone, i agree at festivals etc more and more of the dancers incorporate tricks into their routines. From a personal point of view I can understand why people may say "wow" but feel it often detracts from the actual beauty of the dance. I have no real knowledge though i only know what I enjoy ! . I think body conditioning sounds interesting and I think I will investigate that route at the moment. Thanks agian for all your advice and experience. Balletshoesx
  16. Thanks for all the responses! My dd is only 10 and at the moment would love to dance as a career, you need to have a dream when you are 10 and who knows what the future holds ! My gut (or maternal instinct!) was not to combine both so good to really have this confirmed. My dd has been told she has lovely turnout(before I found this forum I too thought it meant she was well groomed !) At the moment I just want her to enjoy the wonderful opportunity she has been offered through the JA programme at Scottish Ballet come September. I knew the lovely people on this forum would keep me right! balletshoesxx
  17. I am so so sorry ballettaxi, but what a trouper your dd is, picking herself up and also consoling her friend! She must be made of stern stuff and come from good stock ! Sending you both a virtual hug and as I think Spanner said on another thread its just a not this time, not a never. bsx
  18. Hi Everyone, I would really appreciate your opinions on little ballerinas also taking gymnastic classes. Several children at my dd's school do both, and my little dd is naturally flexible. I have not yet gone down this route as in my ignorance i am unsure if gymnasics would be a help or potentially be detrimental. I am sure opinions will differ, but I am so impressed by the knowledge and help on the forum,I feel your responses will enable me to make an informed decision. Many thanks, Balletshoesx
  19. Just wondered if you have had any news ballettaxi? Been keeping my fingers and toes crossed for your dd! Also wanted to ask Totty if any of her little dancers are starting monthly or weekly JA's in September? Balletshoesx
  20. Thanks for that fab information ballettaxi! Good luck to your lovely dd this weekend, please keep us all informed as to how she gets on. Balletshoesx
  21. Thanks for the positive posts! Dd commences monthly classes in September, just posted off acceptance forms, still doesn't seem real! balletshoesx
  22. Thank you all so much for your warm welcome and kind wishes. When I telephoned to enquire about auditon times a couple of weeks ago I couldn't beleive it when i was told they had received over 200 applications. I am not sure if this was the total for the weekly classes (held for children who live within a reasonable distance) and or for the monthly ones for those of us who live further away. Certainly there were 30 in my dd's group and there had been groups before and at least 1 after. They said we would have the results within 2 weeks so I really wasn't expecting to hear anything til end of next week. Everyone there was very welcoming and friendly. Looking forward to hearing more about your lovely talented children. balletshoesx
  23. Thank you so much charlie4dancin, dd and I can't wait to start in Sept! balletshoesx
  24. Hi, This is my very first post and i feel a little nervous! I have enjoyed following all the dds' and dss' journeys but never imagined I would have any news to post. My lovely little dd audtioned for the associate scheme with Scottish Ballet last weekend along with 200 others and yesterday we received a yes letter! Much excitement in our household! I wondered if anyone had any experience of this programme? Thank you all again for your informative and inspiring posts they gave me the confidence to let my dd apply. balletshoes
