  1. Are exam results the property of the children who sit them or of their dance teacher? The RAD vocational results came out 5 days ago in our region but my daughter's school will not give them their results and will not tell them when they can expect to be given them. She is at a vocational school. The kids are going crazy waiting for these results and it seems unfair to withhold them from them. I wondered what the process was at other vocational schools for notifying children of their exam results.
  2. DD and her friend having a great time. DD has been before 2 years ago. DD is 13 and her friend 14 - they are both in group H. Sorry to hear things didn't work out for your DD straceydor
  3. I was provided feedback for my daughter when I asked. She had been successful in her dance audition for a full time place at the school and I asked them to consider the feedback from that audition for a place in the CBA as we were undecided at that point as to whether she would pursue full time vocational training. They did not offer her a place on the CBA but they did take the time to explain why - probably because she had been successful in that audition for a full time place. The feedback was balanced - what she did well at and also where her weaknesses lay from a classical perspective. It was helpful and appreciated.
  4. My friend's dd has just found out she has been offered a place in seniors after worrying herself sick over the last couple of weeks waiting. I understand that the competition this year was even more ferocious than in previous years so I am thrilled for her. Good luck to everyone still waiting for results for seniors and mids.
  5. Dont hold your breath for the results! My friend's dd is waiting for her senior associate letter and she phoned Scottish Ballet today to be told the letters still hadn't gone out. Don't know if it's the same for the Mids letters. Good luck to everyone waiting for results!
  6. Dd wears Bloch Sonata and seems to be getting on fine with them...she doesn't have "great" feet but seems to be coping in these shoes. We had a day out in London and spent a long session in the Bloch store trying out various shoes. I wouldn't have thought from the description of the shoe and knowing my dd's feet that they would be an obvious choice for her so it made me realise how important it is to go somewhere with plenty of choice and to take the time to try on as many pairs as possible!
  7. My dd was a Scottish Ballet JA for 2 years...she did the weekly classes and she absolutely loved it! It's a really super programme and the teaching is outstanding. I would guess that the 200 applicants were the total number of applicants ie for weekly and monthly classes. Well done to your dd I'm sure she will love every minute of it. Is she doing weekly or monthly classes?
  8. At the Dance School of Scotland the girls start pointe work in the later half of their first year. Some girls have already done pointe work and others haven't done any. The girls get about 30 minutes of pointe twice a week once they start.
  9. Sorry famcandance2 I was specifically refering to Tring and what Rachel Rist herself very openly says about allocation of MDS awards at that particular school. I do not know on what basis Hammond allocate their awards!
  10. Tutugirl my dd auditioned last year only toTring & Hammond because she doesn't aspire to a classical ballet career but wants a career in dance. She was offered place for Dance and Theatre Arts but was not invited to funding audition which was exactly what we expected.
  11. We were told at Tring that those invited to a second audition for MDS awards are those deemed to have the most potential for classical ballet training and that this was heaviliy dependent upon physical criteria. Obviously at both Tring and Hammond there are children applying who dont necessarily aspire to a classical ballet career and they may be offered a place but not given MDS funding. Rachel Rist was very up front that that is what the MDS awards are for at Tring and I have seen her in print in one of the dance publications not that long ago saying the same thing and stating that physical criteria will outweigh performance potential when she is selecting students. Very black and white it would seem..........
