It is a sort of a polished steel affair and is quite amazing!

This is not a very good picture but it may give you the idea.

Plymouth is a lovely city to wander around and the theatre is just down from the Hoe.  There is a Travelodge virtually next door and lots of guest houses in the roads leading up to the Hoe.

Now, there is a Premier Inn opposite the theatre. Stayed there on last visit to see R&J

Someone said to me years ago that if graduates want to dance as much as possible they join BRB or NB because being smaller companies with similar numbers of performances there are lots more opportunities...

Before lockdown BRB would take at least one full length ballet around the country. They did at least 50 performances of Beauty and the Beast and one First Soloist danced Belle over a dozen times. These were scheduled performances. BRB has been the company for talented dancers to join if they really want to get their teeth into major rples

Yes, Les Patineurs. How could I forget this! For some bizarre reason it used to be scheduled with Tales of Beatrix Potter. Has it been done since? Seems ages. Though I always feel slightly short changed because we don't get the proper end any more, where the curtain comes down on the Blue Boy turning and then rises again with him still turning. I think I was told that modern technology meant you aren't able to lower and rise the curtain fast enough to enable this to be done but I suspect there's a health and safety reason in there somewhere as well. There always is these days

Les Patineurs was danced during Xmas/New Year 2018/2019

Just been catching up on Private Eye and I see Lunchtime O’Boulez is recycling old and incorrect news regarding the Arabian Dance. To paraphrase: The ballet has been revised to be more appropriate and inclusive, altering the gender imbalance of three females and one male, which carried suggestions of a harem.

O’Boulez suggests people might try the Coliseum and Albert Hall but I don’t think they’ll see the Arabian Dance he suggests. Perhaps his memory reflects too good a lunch?

    A load of O’boulez

Someone else I thought was performing well last night, but forgot to mention, is Marianna Tsembenhoi who was both a village girl and a Wili.  She danced very prettily in the first act and very competently in the second.  I think she is one to watch.

Saw her at a RBS open day during her year three. The students were preparing for their assessments. She danced one of Kitri’s solos from Don Q. It was quite obvious that she was a special talent. During lockdown she was prominent in quite a few streaming events

Without attempting any review, this only being the Rehearsal, I am pleased to report that everything seemed to go very well for all concerned! Just the odd problem with some of the flower picking and throwing!  😂

Much to look forward to in the forthcoming performances!☺

One dancer probably left handed and the flower had definitely been planted

I've seen a small number in recent years, but I wasn't sure if it always happens now. And I suppose I'm thinking further back to much loved dancers e.g. Lesley Collier, Fiona Chadwick etc where it would have been lovely to have had a proper on-stage appreciation of them.

Lesley Collier received a 30 minute standing ovation after her farewell performance of Giselle. She received bouquet after bouquet until the stage was entirely covered with flowers. A truly fitting tribute to a great dancer.
