Spotted on the Sadler's web site: one performance by Ballet Cymru in November, featuring a guest appearance from Mara Galeazzi. Details here

I don't think the company has been to London that often (if at all) - can anyone recall ?

The V&A do a number of yearly courses and there is a new one beginning in September. This is A History of Performance, with the three terms (each 11 weeks) covering Opera, Ballet and Theatre. The Ballet segment is presented by Jane Pritchard. The course is on Fridays from 11am to 15:30. There are details here
https://www.vam.ac.uk/event/2VpNB30l/new-course-history-of-performance
There's a detailed pdf of the course contents available within that link.
It is possible to book for an individual term (though only the autumn term seems to be bookable as yet). The autumn term will coincide with the Opera exhibition at the V&A.

Wayne McGregor's + / - Human is on at the Roundhouse, featuring dancers from his own company, some from the Royal Ballet and seven floating orbs which hover above the action.
There are a few performances left next weekend. The dancers from the Royal taking part are Mara Galeazzi, Edward Watson, Calvin Richardson, Chisato Katsura and Joseph Sissens. (I don't recall him having featured the last two in any previous work but I could be wrong).
It's a 40 minute piece, with the audience standing around the edge of the area, with the dancers sometimes very close. Afterwards you can enter the main space and interact with the flying robots, which proved very popular.

Not ballet exactly, but you might consider The Little Match Girl in the Lilian Baylis Studio at Sadler's In December. It is described by them as suitable for 5+. It's a real charmer, the running time is not so long, about an hour I think, and it is on during the day and has at least one "relaxed" performance. Details here
http://www.sadlerswells.com/whats-on/2017/the-little-match-girl/
When I saw it I was sitting next to an enthralled rather young boy.

Given the enthusiastic response to his performances in AAIP I thought some of you might like to be aware.

Public booking for Swan Lake Opens 4 April 2018. A certain proportion of tickets are held back for public booking, so there should be some reasonable tickets still available. There are a lot of performances of Swan Lake in this particular run (22 I think plus a student and schools performance) which might make it easier. Casting is normally available before Friends can book (7 March 2018 for ordinary Friends), so t should definitely be available before time public booking opens. But for the best choice you need to be poised over your keyboard at the moment pubic booking opens, and be prepared to wait in the queuing system.
I'm not a regular in the stalls. It's not ideal if you are petite. There are many other regulars I'm sure who can offer you a view on this. The first (six ?) rows are not raked, the rake on the rest is slight. The front row of the centre of the grand tier or balcony will mean you have a clear view.
The tight U shape of the auditorium means that there are a number of seats at the sides which offer a restricted view. It's tricky: some people like being closer to the stage even if they lose a corner of the action. If you want a clear central view it may mean being further away. I'm sure others have opinions to offer.

The "puppet theatre" scene that used to take place at the gypsy encampment has gone missing has't it ? I think that this used to be in the Mariinsky version as well as in the Bolshoi one. Can anyone recall ?
In this synposis on the Mariinsky web site it is included (but the running order of scnes if different)

Re Zenaida and Carlos Acosta. I did see them appear together years ago in Prodigal Son. As I recall, his performances were scheduled to be with Guillem (and there was one at least) but she was then injured and he did at least one with Zenaida instead. I'm sure I also saw them in together at the RB in Agon, though this is a long time back. The pdd from this featured in the Acosta and Friends shows (with Zenaida) I think.
Digging about in the ROH performance database, I also found a record of Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude in 1999 - Bull, Bejamamin, Yanowksy, Acosta, Abelgglen.
-
There have been lots of plaudits for individual dancers, but I think we should recognise some other contributors as well. Leanne Benjamin was one of the team coaching the principals for Mayerling (the first time she has coached this) and I think you can see the results very clearly on stage.

So Liam Scarlett will be creating another full length work for premiere next April before his Swan Lake for the RB next May. A busy guy.

Buried in this article about the opening of Grange Park Opera is a tantalising snippet. The opening season will feature
"a concert featuring Bryn Terfel and prima ballerina Zenaida Yanowsky." The director "said she also hopes to attract dance companies such as English National Ballet, Ballet Boyz and Matthew Bourne’s company New Adventures."

"The Creature is back! The sold-out hit of 2017, Liam Scarlett’s Frankenstein bowed to roaring ovations."

This got a standing ovation last night, though it isn't an easy watch. Tonight's performance (last one) is sold out. Crystal Pite can certainly deal with challenging subject matter.
