The Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre, Leeds has launched a new season of dance for autumn 2017It will open withPhoenix Dance Theatre’s home performance followed by Northern Ballet’s annual production for children. The theatre will also welcome back returning companies Ballet Black and Joss Arnott Dance as well as hosting debut visits from Yorke Dance Project and Anjali Dance Company.

 

Phoenix Dance Theatre presents Phoenix at Home: A Celebration of Female Choreographers from 27 to 30 September 2017Back for their seventh annual home performance, this is a vibrant showcase celebrating the exceptional female talent within the Company. Highlights include Calyx by Sandrine Monin, and an excerpt from the research and development of Windrush, a major new piece by Artistic Director Sharon Watson.

 

Northern Ballet continues their annual children’s ballets with the return of Ugly Duckling from 23 to 28 October 2017. As seen on CBeebies, this hugely popular production for children returns to the stage this October half term for the first time since its 2012 world première. It is choreographed by Northern Ballet leading soloist Dreda Blow and former Northern Ballet dancer Sebastian Loe

 

On 31 October 2017 Yorke Dance Project brings an exhilarating evening of dance to Leeds in Rewind Forward. Celebrating dance from the past and present, the performance will include pieces from world-renowned masters of choreography, Sir Kenneth MacMillan and Robert Cohan, as well as from new generation choreographers: Royal Ballet Young Choreographer Charlotte Edmonds; and Yorke Dance Project’s Artistic Director Yolande Yorke-Edgell

 

Anjali Dance Company presents Genius on 7 November 2017, in which an exceptional group of six dancers perform two dramatic explorations of genius in a performance full of creative power. Gary Clarke’s Beethoven takes a touching and darkly humorous look at the life and works of composer Ludwig van Beethoven, and in Bloodsucker Lea Anderson explores the legend of the vampire Nosferatu and his depiction in film. 

 

On 17 and 18 November 2017 Ballet Black visits Leeds for the sixth year running with a new Triple BillThis latest programme features South Bank Sky Arts Award winner Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s Red Riding Hood, a narrative piece that turns the popular fairytale on its head with a surprising twist. The programme also includes Captured by Martin Lawrance, set to a Shostakovich string quartet, and House of Dreams by celebrated British choreographer Michael Corder

 

Also returning to Leeds is Joss Arnott Dance, bringing their latest Triple Bill to the city on 29 November 2017. Featuring the Company’s internationally award-winning solo Vthis highly-charged and visually stunning programme also includes two new works: A Movement in 3 which is set to an original score; and a powerful display from the alpha female cast in RUSH.
