FLOSS Posted September 17, 2016 Share Posted September 17, 2016 Kevin Brownlow's reconstruction of Abel Gance's masterpiece Napoleon is to be released on DVD by the BFI in November 2016. The film is one of the great, if not the greatest of all silent films. Gance was given a budget that was supposed to cover the making of several films about Napoleon. He spent all the money on this one film. Unfortunately for us it was released just as the first of the talkies was released.Napoleon is an extraordinarily innovative film and shows that the coming of the talkies put film making back years as the art form had to adapt to the limitations imposed by the need to capture the actors' voices. 3 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
