  1. there was a family of 4/5 in the front row of the Stalls Circle for Swan Lake last night. Children quite young too (but well behaved). Though they didn't see the last act, their seats obviously paid for (and at full price) at what, £140+ each. Think mum stayed for it all, dad looked after the little ones
  2. oh, I'll give it a go, as I may be misremembering. What I do remember most was Zenaida and Sylvie as The Siren, as the rest being a load of old.....
  3. That is very sad to hear. Thank you Irmgard for the detailed posting, some of us had been fearing this news, but it is still very sad when it actually arrives.
  4. Have to say, I really enjoyed Sarah Lamb's dancing last night, particulalrly her Odette. Such effortless grace. When she first joined the company it wasn't long after I first started going to ROH, and she always looked like how I'd imagined a ballerina to be.
  5. Worth a trip to Brum for a matinee for sure! (an evening show might be possible for me, depending on the train times back to London) Not so sure about the Albert Hall shows though - bit pricey if you actually want to see anything...
  6. Indeed - Alice and Cinderella will be family pullers I reckon (the disney effect of the names) and i'd be surprised if they didn't sell well. I wouldn't count Giselle as one of the war-horses, but is one of my personal favourites and would always welcome a run of shows. Last time Fille was on, it was on again not that long after a previous run, and I don't think it sold that well (except to us hard core fans of course) Someone up thread mentioned La Sylphide - much as I'd love that back, it was Johan Kobborg's production, so we're unlikely to see that at ROH - sorry RB&OH - any time soon sadly.
  7. Well, it can't be worse surely (unless it takes a lead from their recent Les Noces playbook!!) And I'll be missing Nutcracker for sure - the SPF solo variation, the growing tree, the Snowflakes - and Gary's cape! For me, it IS Christmas!
  8. There is plenty of interesting music: the Gorecki for 'Light of Passage', I love Max Richter's work so Maddaddam should be a winner (my favourite Wayne pieces are set to Richter). And Joni Mitchell for one of Wheeldon's shorties (Blue is an album I reckon EVERYONE should own! 🙂 ) Plus there are some things of interest (to me at least) in the Linbury - Ballet Black, Northern Ballet, for example.
  9. I usually read sci-fi nonsense 🙂 (currently getting through 'The Three-Body Problem' trilogy by Cixin Liu, a recent Netflix success for the first book)
  10. There's always the option of a book in the Floral Hall (or having a chat with me there, during it)
  11. Well, I can understand some of the programming. When we plead for more Ashton, and the tickets for the Ashton bill hardly fly out, against sell outs for the long runs of the 'war-horses' at premium prices, it must be a no brainer to put on long runs of said war-horses. And the likes of Cinderella and Alice, and R&J, will probably sell out as they are known names to the more casual ballet punter. So not satisfying for the die-hard fans maybe, but coffer-filling for the company. And of course, plenty of opportunities for up and coming dancers in lead roles.
  12. oh yes, shouldn't have forgotten that. Loved it first time round so will definitely be revisting a few times
  13. my thruppenny bit's worth: Alice - probably see a few of those if my fave dancers are on call. One for the general punter with cash, cos they know the name Maddaddam - might be brilliant! Will go to good few for sure, to see if it is Cinderella - same as for Alice. Some bits are sublime Ashton, some bits, er, are not No Nutcraker - waaah! (will have to try ENB's new production) Onegin - more than a good few, are on the agenda R&J (again!) - zzzzzz Balanchine triple - will go to as many as I can (even though I'm not very keen on Prodigal Son); Serenade and Sym in C will see me through the season Contemporary mixed bill - will try for a few of those, though may sit out one or two pieces after a couple of performances Wheeldon 'Broadway' bill - hope to catch a few of those, might be good fun, though I can't say I'm 'excited' about them Sad no Fille obviously (or no Sylvia), and sure would like to see Symphonic Variations again (and Symphonic Dances by Scarlett). Oh for the days of 12 different evenings (7-8 two/three acters, plus 4-5 mixed bills)
  14. just double click on the name then copy/paste (ctrl-c / ctrl-v)
  15. Probably - its a 'name' that everyone knows the story (sort of), though from the Disney cartoon most likely! 🙂
  16. Due to double booking myself, hoping to rehome my ticket for Scottish Ballet's 'A Streetcar Named Desire' on Friday, 17th May at Sadlers Wells It is in the Second Circle, seat L30. The quoted view restriction is only very minor (the very front of the stage, on the far left as you look at it) - I've not had a problem whe I have sat there in the past Ticket is £12 (rather than normal £15). Only a sprinkling of tickets left now, and none at this bargain price! Send a PM if interested to sort out exchange, posting here to say you've done so
  17. The Queen was obviously an adventurous woman... 😉
  18. I don't have much issue with the prologue scene setter bit (not noticed the background showing through - will watch out for that this evening). It doesn't have to be much of a lookee-likee for me, as it just gives a hint to what has gone before. Lighting though - in the cinema yesterday, much of the whole ballet seemed to be in impenatrable gloom. The close-ups and medium shots were OK, but anything wider and it became tricky to pick anyone out! Keep wishing, and having hopes dashed, that lighting designers would 'hint at' it being dusk/night when setting the scene, and then lighting it more fully so we can see the dancers. I'm sure the audience can still make-pretend it is still night As for day/night - time seems to be a moveable feast between scenes 🙂
  19. Worth 6 minutes of anyone's time... 🙂
  20. I think we may be overthinking the 'plot' a bit 🙂 Seems to me the plot points are just convenient hooks to hang some wonderful dancing upon. I'd say pretty much all the old classics and romantic ballets have plots not so much a bus could drive through the holes in them, as it would struggle to touch the sides
  21. Ticket for sale for the evening performance of Swan Lake, this coming Saturday (27th April) at 7pm, with Francesca Hayward and William Bracewell in the leads. I thought I could go, but now turns out I can't. Which is annoying as it was a cast I wanted to see! It is D5 in the SCS area, cost of £14. PM me if interested (to setup the exchange), and post here that you have done so
  22. I think that the potential brides being so 'inconsequential' (especially to the Prince), is rather the point
