  1. My income is under £21,000 jazzpaws, in fact well under as I am a single parent on a low part-time income (I began job sharing when children younger, currently trying to extend my hours but to no avail yet) and I find meeting these accommodation fees almost impossible. I have had to borrow the money for this academic year on my mortgage :-( and use credit cards for other ongoing costs, shoes, uniform etc. Not good. Fortunately my dd has now been extremely lucky and managed to secure some local charity funding to help pay next year. Without that she probably would have to have left or stayed with host family. Apparently she currently knows of 2 girls who stay with a host family. There may well be others because she doesn't know about all those in the upper sixth or all those who on other courses, ie drama and MT.

  2. Yes, the £1,978.33 is after the Dada allowance is taken off. So if you are receiving the max DADA award available, ie in income band under £21,000, then that is the net amount still left to pay I'm afraid. Yes, staying with a host family would certainly be cheaper. By the way, the DADA contribution towards accommodation is paid termly in the form of a cheque to the student, and not as one lump sum.

  3. Yes, Friends, I remember that day very clearly too!! Can I just add, I believe it was only all the yes's which received emails - and in various stages over the fortnight. The waiting list and no's received a letter by post exactly 2 weeks after the audition. Last year the auditions were 23/24 Mar & my dd got her waiting list letter on Sat 6 Apr.

  4. Just seen in the new April edition of Dancing Times today that the Royal Ballet are advertising for an 'Artistic Teacher & Programme Manager' at Covent Garden - a new post to support the new Artistic Director! Salary £50,000.

  5. Last year when my dd auditioned, it wasn't just boys and overseas on the Sat, there were lots of British girls on the Saturday too. Mainly all the vocational ones I believe and a few others.

  6. Last year, the yes's seemed to come out gradually, but I do know someone who heard really quickly (by email) on the Thurs following the auditions on the Sat/Sun. Others however got emails later on in a staggered fashion. It was all very frustrating and nerve wracking as some had heard & some hadn't. The 'waiting lists' and no's all then came in one bunch by letter later on. I remember the time very well!

  7. Actually, thinking about it though, it's not actually quite that black and white. If my memory serves me correctly, at the Saturday audition there were no call backs whatsoever, yet all the girls from that day were not straight yes's or no's. I know of 2 who got 'waiting list'.

  8. My dd auditioned there last year and yes it was exactly the same format as 2dancersmum has described above. Allow to be there approx 4 hrs, but it does depend whereabouts you are in the order for interview & physio assessment.

  9. My dd has a Bloch practice tutu in black and hers used to smell as well !!! I used to have to keep hanging it up outside in the fresh air. Not sure if it still does as she took it away with her to vocational school (her poor room mates & pdd partner if it does!). I will remember to ask her next time she phones. I'm so glad someone else has had the same problem. We were totally puzzled at the time ..... it smelt like the cat had left its mark on it!

  10. Is it DD final on Sunday ? It's my DS final on Saturday . Wishing you both the very best . There is a nice place to eat / drink on the way from Fulham Broadway to Hortensia Rd. . It's on the right and called the Butchers Hook . Or it's walkable to the Kings Road if you need a bit of retail therapy .

tutugirl ... don't know whether you realise, but Chelsea are playing Arsenal at home on Saturday!!  It will be mayhem.  :-(   Don't know what time your DSs audition is, but I would allow plenty of extra time if the time clashes.  My dd and I used to travel to ENB every single Saturday when she was younger and we got caught up several times in football matches.  The tube will be squashed to sardines, the main road along from Fulham Broadway is closed to traffic from a certain time onwards & there are police and police horses everywhere!  Just be pre-warned.  Kick off is 12.45 I believe.  Hopefully his audition is in the morning.
