  1. Yes - it clearly was inevitable with his talents and charisma.

And he and Daria worked their magic again this afternoon to a fresh and appreciative Boxing Day audience - no less amazing because the house was pretty full despite the serious disruption of public transport and the two Principals appeared as fresh and energetic as daisies despite having flown to Cape Town and back to guest with the company there within the past week!! Simply magical

  2. Hot off the presses, it sounds as tho she was put on to dance this afternoon with another partner unknown to me named Alu - the tweets were most enthusiastic & appreciative

You are right about last minute changes specially this time of year - as long as Eurostar don't fail as well!! Hope you enjoy your visit and tell us who you saw

  3. After guests from Vienna were called upon at short notice to dance three perfromances of the Nureyev Don Q at the Bastille a week or so ago, this afternoon's scheduled Basilio has been injured so cannot dance - this means that despite her pleas to the management to dance with another Basilio Mathilde Froustey (tipped by the fans as the next etoile - she ought to be too IMHO) will not after all appear as Kitri - all of which means unless there is some other schedule change this season, she may have danced her one and only performance of this role - in which she was reported to have been spectacular earlier this week - most of this news is a summary of the many postings on Twitter on the subject for those who are interested!

  4. With the last perf b4 the Coli just starting e'en as I pen this, (Back to Beauty next week in Manc Opera Hse), it amused me when languishing in the wet Algarve a week or so ago to find that a company called the Russian Classical Ballet Company was putting on Nutcracker for one night in Portimao & the automatic translation that came up for the work's title was "Breaking Walnuts" - how charming!

  5. We understand ENB are "at home" rehearsing Nutcracker before reverting to Beauty at Liverpool Empire next week - interestingly Max tweeted yesterday that he was to rehearse with Tamara; so perhaps my previous post is already wrong and he will be the nephew / Prince visiting the Stalbaum-Ashtons when she dances the lead? Does anyone have their ear to the ground?

  6. My understanding is that this is basically the same exhibition that was displayed in the French National Museum of Fashion which is in Moulins - central France (our equivalent is in Bath).

I went to see it there a year or so ago and understood most of the costumes shown were from Paris Opera's collection of Nureyev productions.

The exhibition seems to have been successful and consequently it has been announced that some sort of permanent display will be set up there in 2013 which will coincide with the twentieth anniversay of RN's death.

Moulins is about three hours ride from Paris on the train but thanks to the regularity and timings of SNCF just about do-able as a day trip from Paris. For F1 enthusiasts Magny Cours (?spelling) is just up the road!

  7. I saw Wednesday afternoon's rehearsal (sans cast list) and last night's peformance (from 2nd circle) and didn't think the casts were exactly the same in every ballet ... but I've been wrong before!!! Presume the photos were all from the photo call which was of the rehearsal so if anyone can enlighten me as to differences in the pix from my cast list of last night without too much difficulty, I would be most grateful!

  8. Cannot sleep so here goes

Noticed the name Patricia Zhou in Angela's post 76 and thought aaah I just read that name somewhere else - it was on Joseph Phillps website www.josephphillips.org - they danced in a gala in Michigan a couple of Saturdays ago called Stars of the Russian Ballet - can anyone tell us more about them and the gala - maybe one of our American friends could start a thread like this one which is so handy for keeping tabs on dance in central Europe

  9. Re tempi - I remember spending two blissfully happy hours in the dance section of the New York Public Library on my first visit there in 1979 watching an American TV recording of Cinderella - Fonteyn, Somes and I must have the others written down somewhere but I remember being amazed at the great speed of the tempi and that the 1955-ish Fonteyn had no trouble at all with them - interestingly there were no stairs and that tricky male solo was omitted
