  1. I’m really excited to be seeing tonight’s performance, the last time I saw The Winter’s Tale was April 2014 so it will be interesting to see it almost exactly 10 years later! I remember being in awe of the artistry of some of the dancers and a quick Google tells me the cast for that performance was:

    Leontes
    King of Sicilia
      Edward Watson
    Hermione
    Queen of Sicilia
      Lauren Cuthbertson
    Perdita
    Princess of Sicilia
      Sarah Lamb
    Mamillius
    Prince of Sicilia
      Joe Parker
    Paulina
    Head of Queen Hermione's household
      Zenaida Yanowsky
    Antigonus
    Head of King Leontes' household
      Bennet Gartside
    Polixenes
    King of Bohemia
      Federico Bonelli
    Florizel
    Prince of Bohemia
      Steven McRae
    Steward
    Head of King Polixenes' Household
      Thomas Whitehead
    Father Shepherd   Gary Avis
    Brother Clown
    Shepherd's son
      Valentino Zucchetti
    Young Shepherdess   Beatriz Stix-Brunell

Will be interesting to see how tonight’s cast compare.

Thanks to the 40% offer and a birthday voucher I’ll be sitting in the Donald Gordon tier for the first and probably last time too… would be lovely to say hello if anyone else is there this evening.

  2. Honestly for me I find private classes with a good teacher infinitely valuable. I’ve done a few intensives and various day retreat type things and they can be fun. However, they can be really cliquey, the regulars can get significantly more attention and if you aren’t confident pushing yourself forward a little bit to give things a try, you might feel a bit more lost at the back trying to keep up.

It’s a good way to push yourself, however, value for money in terms of feeling progress and truly learning, I have a few teachers I’ve met throughout the years who I would always choose to return to see and take a private class with first. It really gives you time to break down the little things which you can then take back to work on in your regular classes.

Really it depends on what your goals are though, do you want to challenge yourself at learning new choreography and dancing as a group? Do you want to experience a range of teachers in a short space of time to try different styles? Do you want to focus on artistry vs technique?

  3. I'm moving away from Surrey and desperately looking for some recommendations of adult ballet classes in the Leighton Buzzard/Milton Keynes areas as I know nothing about that area yet. Would anyone be able to recommend some good studios with adult ballet classes at an improver plus or intermediate level? I don't drive so they would need to be accessible by public transport.

I should still be able to get to some open classes in London at Pineapple and Central but also any suggestions closer to London Euston would be really helpful. Thank you!

  4. Ole & Steen has loads of branches all over central London and I’ve found them great to work from as quite a few have a decent number of plug sockets. As long as it isn’t peak time I’ve normally always found a seat with a plug and it’s relatively calm compared to some of the other coffee chains.

  5.

Clearing out some old dancewear that no longer fits me, message me for photos and postage costs.

Yumiko Alicia - size Medium - Fully front lined. Fabric is all Techni fabric which is less shiny and slightly thicker than the nylon. Also fits slightly smaller especially with the full front lining but feels super soft. Colours are Zenith trim, White top and Zenith bottom. - £50

Bloch Professional Wrap Skirt - size Petite - label has been cut out but still in very good condition- £8

So Danca Purple lace leotard - size Small - £8

Custom handmade leotard from Etsy - size Small - White top, red bottom half and black mesh long sleeves and back. Elastic has gone a bit on the mesh but still looks nice on - £5

Bloch Leotard black camisole with mesh front detail - size Small - £8

Capezio black cotton leotards - size Small - cotton has faded slightly but otherwise in very good condition - £5 each

  7. Here's some suggestions from what you've mentioned:

    • Historical sights - Tower of London is good fun, the tour guides are excellent. Also some really nice views of London.
    • For exhibitions I love the National Gallery and the V&A - definitely don't miss the theatre section of the V&A as there's some lovely costumes and secrets about the old theatres and staging.
    • Shakespeare - you could do a tour of The Globe?
    • West End Musicals - As mentioned Phantom of the Opera has some ballet in it so might be a safe first choice. For discount tickets for shows check the TodayTix app as they do on the day 'rush' tickets that are around £25 for lots of shows. Rush tickets open at 10am and can sell out fast if it's a peak time performance. Don't buy full price tickets through the app though as they will be more expensive, better to book directly with the theatre. Other options for good value tickets: head to the theatre box office around an hour before the show starts (risky but you can get lucky with a good deal) or check for the specific show, some offer specific discounted tickets for under 25's! If you are unsure of whether a seat is a good choice (some say 'restricted view' but are good value), check the view from the seat on a website called 'Seat Plan'. It's so helpful!
    • Instagram - I won't link it but if you google 'most instagramable places London' you'll get a nice list, you could make a little walking tour for yourself of those?
    • I'd also recommend a backstage tour of the ROH, they are a great way to maybe get lucky and spot a dancer or two.

  8. I don’t know specific details on the school but I spotted one of the Prix dancers this year was from Basel ballet school in Switzerland. Having lived there for a few months I know there was a really strong ballet scene with some wonderful teachers in the area. From what I heard from them the school has a good reputation and it’s an incredibly small and safe city. Flights are almost always very cheap, it’s a quick and easy journey. Might be another one to explore.

  9. Attaching a photo of the leotard. Style is Alicia, size medium. Fully front lined so fits marginally tighter than the ones with just the bust panel lining. Fabric is all Techni fabric which is less shiny and slightly thicker than the nylon. Feels super soft. Colours are Zenith trim, White top and Zenith bottom. Looks a tiny bit more green in person than the photo. Only been worn twice. Message me if you are interested :)
