  1. I can highly recommend Sussex Summer School.

Dd went last year and had a fabulous time.  She loved boarding and stayed in comfortable dorms in the boarding school they use.  Great food and homemade cake every day!  They did ballet, modern, contemporary and Greek (very unusual to find Greek teaching).  Lots of international students especially from Japan who came for two weeks (dd just did one).  The Japanese girls were lovely and taught the others origami!

This year they are only doing one week and a different venue.  Just dropped dd off yesterday afternoon.  Everyone is SO friendly, they welcomed dd and remembered she came last year.  They are adding Musical Theatre this year which isn't dd's favourite thing but it will be something different.  Ryan Jenkins is teaching modern and contemporary who dd tells me is quite well known!

  2. Dd needs some black hot pants for a show.  Does anyone know if any of the Covent Garden dance shops sell them?  I've checked Bloch and Capezio online but can't see any!

  3. Forgot to add they are the type of tap shoes with only one pair of eyelets so normal length laces will be way too long.

These elastics sound interesting!  Actually dd is still struggling to tie laces (she's 9) so maybe I'll get these elastics.  Where do you get them from?

  4. This is a bit of a long short but worth a try!

My dd has lost one lace from her Capezio tap shoes.  It's a ribbon lace, very short only about 18".  Apparently Capezio don't sell replacement laces (although an internet search shows they do in the US!).

I have looked on Ebay but they don't sell laces short enough.  Any ideas?

    Thanks.

  5. Thank you, that's very helpful.

hoglett - Abbotts Bromley looks interesting, thank you.

Beside the fees, what is the dance training like at either Legat or Abbotts Bromley?

Porthesia - what did your dd go on to do after Legat?

  6. Sherbert, sorry but I couldn't find the fees on the website, I did look.

Most of the private girls' day schools round here are around the £5k mark per term.  So boarding is nearly double.

  7. Does anyone have any experience of this school?  We are possibly looking at a sixth form place for dd.  I like the fact they offer A Levels and it seems quite academic too.

How competitive is it to get a place?

  8. Just checked NYB dates - they finish rehearsing on 23rd Aug (day before Tring dance course starts) but their performance dates are later that week.  So it doesn't look like someone would be able to do both...?

  9. Unfortunately it's now full.  I have put dd's name down on the reserve list.

Does anyone know if places do become available based on previous years?  Do people sometimes pull out due to other commitments?  I think NYB is around the same time, have their results come out yet?

  10. Ballet.baby - my Dd did the Easter course at the London Ballet Company both this year and last. She really enjoyed it, small groups and good teaching. They did ballet, pointe, creative and contemporary. Easy to get to on the jubilee line, almost on top of Canada Water station.
