  1. Well my daughter has had "no"s for a boarding place every year (although got WL finals for year 7) but believe me, she does NOT feel she is rubbish! She just keeps trying as she feels that one day her time will come. There are numerous reasons why a child does not make finals - nothing to do with their ability - there are 100s of children who go through this audition process every year (all more than capable or their teachers would not have signed the application forms for them!).

Even the most successful ballet dancers will have had their share of knock backs/injuries etc etc but it just prepares them for the real, tough world of ballet.

Your DD must NEVER be allowed to think she is rubbish as to be allowed to audition in the first place, and to have the GUTS to do it, means that she is NOT!!!!

We are currently awaiting the latest inevitable rejection from RBS but I know that my DD will pick herself up as always and I will be right there to support and reassure her.

  2. Hi frangapani are there limited places for year 9 as well. The wait is killing me.Do you mind me asking is this your daughters first time to audition for white lodge. Do you think we will have to wait much longer.I was thinking that I would hear this week. My dd comes in from school each day hoping the letter has arrived. Best of luck to your dd too and if this is not your dd first time to audition I commend you for being able to go through this again

yes places are always limited - there are only 6 year 9 MAs in DDs class right now. She has auditioned for White Lodge every year, getting to finals for year 7. She realises there is naff all chance for year 10 but is prepared to show her face again anyway! (she doesn't give up that easily!!!)

I honestly think the letters will be next week so am chilled out about the wait - I will start stressing from next week!!!!

  3. Hi Frangapani thanks for replying. She will be 14 on the 12th of Septemper she is in first year in secondary school.Did your DD audition ?

I make that year 9 Mids in that case. Yes my DD auditioned. She is currently a Mid but is trying for SAs and White Lodge. Best of luck with the wait!

  4. The RBS ones are thin regardless of yes or no - making the torture even worse when it arrives on a day when your DD or DS is out dancing until late and you have to sit and look at it!!!! ;) (or steam it open in the case of some of my friends!!!!)

Best of luck to those waiting - next week perhaps?

    (well for LS anyway)

  5. My DD is an Inter at NB, having been through their JAs. She found the JA lessons very basic (but excellent for building core strength) so your DD need not fear! Let her try the audition (again, not to challenging) as it is all good experience and I am sure that she will enjoy it :)

  6. Dd's teacher is Jane at the moment, but she's expecting a baby in about June, I'm not sure who'll be teaching then.

Dd has really enjoyed the open classes and has learnt a lot from them in a short space of time, I'm thinking of taking my youngest dd, but probably not until September.

Is that Jane Tucker expecting another baby??? How lovely! :-) xxx

  7. @ Dance ATM - when does she hit 14? If she is a year 9 academic school she will be looking at a year 10 SA place?? There are not many places for any year TBH :'(

I think we will hear next week rather than this week - I seem to remember letters for finals coming out 2 weeks before so there was a mad dash looking for B&Bs, hotels etc?? Finals are on around 24th Feb if I remember correctly?

    Best of luck everyone

  8. Good luck with funding auditions. Yes it is so hard when your young ones are upset - my DD has had so many "no" letters over the years and I think I feel as upset as she does (as a parent it is very hard to deal with your child's rejection :( ).

Fingers crossed for those RBS letters - must be due out in 2 weeks as it is the last of the prelim rounds on Sunday....

  9. Just hoping that the probable "No" letter will not put DD off Sunday's Bristol audition for RBS!!!

Fran - have you steamed before, and do you have any tips??? ;)

No! I am too well behaved but almost feel needs must in these circumstances!!! Just can't sit and look at the dreaded thing until DD gets home!!! Ha ha!! Think will just leave it if it is the inevitable "thin" envelope but should it look more bulky may steam it, take a photo on my mobile and send it to DD ;)

Best of luck and good luck in Bristol!

  11. Kiwimum - my very first thought was that they had already made their mind up about her (positive?) so were just checking out the others?? My DD felt okay after her last couple of WL auditions but didn't get finals (although she is an MA) and same again this year - so again we are not expecting finals - sometimes they look closely at them to rule them out...

To get Elmhurst finals etc is fab so she clearly has talent...

The wait for the letters is just awful - I know my DD will be devastated if doesn't make finals for either :( - she has had a bad couple of years (not ballet) so will be extra hard this time round.

    Best of luck all :)

  12. Hi G - yes it did but both DD and I seem to remember that our MAs going for SA places didn't find out they had got a place until pretty near the end of Summer term (which in Manchester was end of May). Think we heard re finals about 2 weeks before the finals as we had to make frantic calls round B&Bs trying to find somewhere! So mid Feb?

Happy waiting all - wish all our DDs and DSs could make finals and we could all meet up! :)

  13. Nope!!! :D - shall DEFINITELY be hitting the wine tonight - oh the stress of it all!!!!!

Will probably be Tuesday now as they won't post letters on a Saturday??? Unless they have sent them 2nd class yesterday.

Good luck with the stress levels all!

  14. Good luck Poppy!!! My DD auditioned in Manchester so we are one of the ones with a long wait - sigh!!!!

Think the SA letters last year went out really late - May? Don't think they went out until after the JA auditions ?? I may be wrong...

Let us know how you get on!

  15. You won't hear until around mid-February so don't stalk the postie just yet girls!!! ;) They always wait until the last auditions are out of the way which I believe are Bristol on 29th.

    Best of luck!

  16. Hi Frangapani, I can't see how to send you a PM on this forum but I seem to remember from the old forum that you will darn pointe shoes. My dd and I spent a lovely day in London having pointe shoes fitted but I can't face the thought of darning another pair! I dutifully darned the first in November and for a while I thought my fingers would never recover. If this is still your "sideline" could you send me a PM?

    Many thanks SD

    pm sent! xxx

  17. Tulip

Your dd is the only person I have heard making finals so far - does anyone know others?

Do the current year 11 audition with everyone else or is that dealt with separately ?

I think they said there were about 20 places in 6th form but there must be at least 15 in year 11 already ? ?

    Lil x

DDs friend has got finals for a year 10 place - think she did the November audition. F x

  18. I will be auditioning for SA 2 weeks today I also ticked the form to be considered for LS do you get an individual letter I understand from prev postings that you get advised about finals between 1-2 weeks after the audition??

Does anybody know on average how many get taken down to finals? How many went down for year 9 last year and did they take any? Is there any free beds for yr 10?

Alot of questions I know but you all seem to know what your talking about 

you tend to hear about 2 weeks before the finals (which are 24/25th Feb this year). So if you audition in Manchester you will have a longer wait than those in Bristol! Not sure if there are any beds for Year 10 this year (hope so as my DD auditioned !). Out of our Manchester Mas I believe only 1 or 2 got finals last year for year 10 places. They do not take many at all. Best of luck! :D
