  1. One nice thing with Tring they don't assess out, assessments are to decide between moving up and staying in current group. Anyone know chances of getting into Group 6? Good luck to everyone for Sunday's assessments.

  2. Friends with youngsters the age of your DD went to Surrey Uni a while back to help decide what to apply for , but does seem early. My older daughter had to sort everything early as applying for medicine, but most of the rest do have longer. Have heard of people going to Chichester for dance, or one case where mixed Dance and Maths and went to Derby. DD's dance teacher recommends LSC and Millenium, not sure what Millenium do. Will be interested to hear how you get on, may well be us in a year!

  3. DD is 16, in Year 11. She passed Advanced 1 in December. Yes really looking forward to performing in a high calibre performance with quality costumes, scenery etc. she doesn't know anyone and this normally bothers her, but strangely doesn't seem to this year which is great. She boarded at Elmhurst last year, sharing a room with one of her Tring CBA contemporaries. Sounds like it should be good then!

  4. My DD is struggling to get enough tuition for Advanced 2 ballet. Often even not even one a week. DD doesn't want to change schools, and looking around struggle to see schools with a class at this level. Teacher doesn't have time to do private lessons. Can anyone suggest anywhere we can pick up some private lessons suitable for this level? DD is particularly concerned that they rarely do any pointe work. We live at the Berkshire end of Hampshire, but are prepared to travel, Hampshire, Berkshire,Surrey London or a bit beyond are possible. No urgency to take the exam, but do want at least to be making some progress. Would appreciate any ideas/names etc. Thanks.

  5. I wonder if anyone who's done NYB before could answer some questions. DD has been accepted and chosen to dance in two items. Presumably this will mean quite a bit of non rehearsal time? So there will be ballet (other genre?) classes to fill the rest of her time? Who is likely to teach these classes and are they roughly grouped by age/grade? Just want to ensure she would get a good amount of dance input. The performance side sounds great, which is lovely as she doesn't often get to perform at her small local dance school. Love the idea of the high standards in dance, costume, scenery etc. thanks

  6. Yes heard this week that DD has parts in Cinderella and one other piece. Good to hear there are classes when not rehearsing as want to feel the fees are worth it. Was looking for another performance experience. Expect her's will be minor roles as she sat out a lot at the final audition? She was very pleased to get through.

  7. My older daughter who unlike younger sister only did ballet as a hobby never took Pre Primary, Primary or Grade 4. Her first teacher always seems to think she didn't suit exams although she always got merit when entered. Eventually she moved schools and was so far behind those of her age was allowed to skip four and take five which thankfully she passed. When they get older I think they find it difficult to be in classes with much younger girls, in our case she called it a day when DD overtook her and took Inter Foundation.

  8. She was thinking of dropping groups after this year as they largely focus on song and dance which isn't her thing, so she's usually on the back row. No chance of groups in most of the genres she prefers sadly. No contemporary locally or at Tring, which is one reason she's going for LSC. They also do jazz which she loves. She has done several associates and watching her yesterday tend to feel she has been happiest at Tring out of any of them.

  9. My DD who is currently Year 11 is aiming to apply to do a mixed dance course at 18. I am a little concerned that at her small dance school she will be be doing less hours of dance than others her age. Want to make sure that when we plan associate for next year that we build this up sufficiently. Locally she will be doing one hour ballet, 45 minutes Tap, 75 minutes Modern and 45 minutes jazz. She wil be doing 4.5 hours of mixed dance associates at London Studio Centre. I am especially concerned about just one hour of ballet in a mixed Aadvanced 1/2 class. She has been attending the CBA at Tring this year, but is thinking of withdrawing from this so she can still do festivals etc which are a big thing at the dance school.
