I have had exactly the same email which they say if my daughter knows somebody else they will try to put her with them. Have you managed to sort anything? My daughter is in the same position and would love to find someone that she knows she can be with from NBS. She is also 16 and does not want to be with uni students. Perhaps if you are not sorted yet we could try and find a few people and all request to be in the same flat.

My daughter starts in September we managed to get her into a 2 bedroom flat and another NBS student is now booked in the other room. We were originally worried about a uni student going in the other room but we spoke directly to new medlock house on the phone and they reassured us that once all the uni bookings were in if it was a uni student they can juggle peoples rooms around so hopefully if there are other NBS students in the same situation as you they might be able to put them altogether.

I rang New Medlock as I thought this might be the case and they offered me a shared flat and non-en-suite with 7 other people, 1 being a NBS student. Unfortunately I didn’t feel entirely comfortable with a flat this large and a shared bathroom as I’m moving quite far away from home and as an only child so it’s a completely new experience but they said there was nothing else apart from that available. I understand I was quite late in the process of booking somewhere however I wasn’t able to book anything until I found out about funding the other day.  I’m currently waiting on a phone call back from Parkway Gate as they did say there was one NBS student still there but in a fully booked flat - hoping they are able to move things around a bit so I can share with them instead!

There may be movement too as people may have booked accommodation and be waiting on a funding offer still. I think there are some of the older students in MSV dwell too, we couldn’t book there as you have to be 18.

Hi. I’m 18 and it will be my first year at NBS this year. I’ve had to book a room at Parkway Gate as they were the only ones left and I was told that there were several NBS students there. Unfortunately I’ve found out this morning that most students have moved to New Medlock as the prices were cheaper but there’s now no rooms available to have a flat with another NBS student. Just wondered if anyone else if going to Parkway Gate and is at NBS?

Have you emailed new medlock directly? as it was showing no rooms available online but when I contacted them they did have one available and were able to block it off for me.

  4. DD has been short wait listed, but after checking with the upper school she’s due to attend they don’t allow them to do the associates so we’ve had to turn down her place on the list.
I would think they’ll be quite a lot of movement as some schools have Saturday classes, travel etc

Hi, just looking at various accomodation near NBS. All rooms say 'private bathroom' however is there any shower in the bathrooms? I can't see any, just toilets! Where do they shower then? Any tips for accommodation with toilet & shower please?

What accommodation are you looking at? We managed to get a room at new medlock but there weren’t any en-suites left so they have put my DD in a 2 bed flat so she just has to share the kitchen and bathroom with one other person. I think the other room was still available and the lady at new medlock had blocked it off so she could try to put another NBS student in.

    Well-done,

I'm sure she will love it.

My daughter is now going into her last term, but really only seems like yesterday that we were planning & sorting for the start of her first term !

Thank you, just making lists of everything she needs tonight. I’m hoping she will be as happy there as all of your children have been x

    @La sylphide, that’s fantastic news!
She will absolutely love it, I’m sure! They all do!
….Now to book accommodation if you need it! The sooner, the better!
My DD has stayed in Unite accommodation for year 1 and 2 (New Medlock and Parkway Gate) but will be in Dwell next year as there was a big price jump at Unite. Unite takes them from 16. I think Dwell now only takes them at 18. It’s a good idea to call the halls directly (not head office but halls in Manchester) and explain they are NBS students and ask if they can get into a flat with other NBS dancers. Unite also allowed the 16 year olds when calling directly whereas it says 18 on website.
All these halls are minutes from the college.

Thank you she can’t wait,  I managed to get a room for her at medlock she’s in a 2 bed flat as the 2 NBS flats were all full so they’ve blocked off the other room in her flat for now in the hope theyll be able to put another NBS student in there.

Hello, I don’t have a current student at NBS but do have experience with uS, at New Medlock and Parkway Gate  Is their website saying full or have you spoken to staff directly?  They do block off flats once there is at least one NBS pupil accommodated, which might not be reflected on their website.
Rooms can become available on A level results day as some students may not receive the grades they need to attend the uni of choice however, that would only provide a room in a flat of other older uni students not NBS.
Possibly the same could be said for another 1st yr NBS pupil that doesn’t receive a DaDa but did pay a deposit for a room.
Could be worth maintaining a dialogue with the staff directly.
I appear to have deleted New Medlock’s direct number but I do have the number for Parkway Gate if required. They are literally next door to each other.
Rather than the generic uS number.
    Good Luck.

Thank you we managed to get a cancellation room in new medlock this week. I emailed them directly and they said currently they have two NBS flats that are full so can’t guarantee she will be in a flat with all  NBS students it may be mixed but that due to her age she will definitely not be with anyone over 21 and once the flats are all full they will see if they can jig it around a bit for her.  Just waiting for the DADA results now 🤞🏻

  9. Hi

just after some accommodation advice from those of you currently at NBS.

DD has an offer but we were waiting on DADA results before booking accommodation as without this she can’t go. She will be 17 when she starts but dwell no longer take under 18’s and new medlock house don’t have any rooms available and the other unite properties are over £255 a week. From everyone’s experience do rooms become back available at medlock as time goes on or are we out of luck?

I would definitely contact dwell direct to ask about age, my daughter was 16 when started in her first year & so was her flat mate ( only 2 of them in a 4 bed flat all year ). Then going into 2nd year all 4 were just 17. We have had no problems in the accomodation & we are almost at the end of her 3rd year! Can't believe it has come round so quick!.

I will look for the email we have used for contact for MSV.

    Emails I have used ;

    msv@dwellstudent.co.uk

    colm.leonard@dwellstudent.co.uk

    Hope this helps!

Thank you I will send them an email, I tried to call yesterday but no answer.

Last year Dwell had stopped taking under 18s, so definitely worth getting your name down for a room in one of the Unite properties if you can... Unite have previously allowed you to cancel with no financial liability if the DADA funding doesn't come through, but as balletbean says, communicate with the properties directly. The rooms do book up quickly so worth getting a name down. They'll do an online tour for you if you want to see a property before you book too.

The properties are all REALLY close, so doesn't matter which one they end up in really (although costs are different! ) We had a generally good experience with a flat of under 18s in New Medlock in yr 1 (bar the lift never working and a few maintenance issues) and have also this year in Parkway. NM seemed to have a better, or more personal understanding of the ballet school students, so that felt nice for Y1.... probably simply due to smaller numbers of students. There are usually other NBS students very close by, either in the same accommodation or one of the other near ones, so they can visit each other and hang out together easily. We were really pleased that we had a flat of ballet students all together, others prefer to live with other students to get a bit of a break from the same people day in/day out. I think age was definitely a factor in this and for a 16 yr old, we were a lot happier with him being with other ballet students, but that's just preference really!

Well done on all the audition results! x

    Hi

are dwell definitely not taking under 18’s anymore as i thought that there were some in there this year? We were hoping to book dwell dd will be 17

You don't normally need to see a GP to have this form completed. These form are completed for a fee so it's usually a call to reception to organise and pay. Hope that helps.

Unfortunately this one has to be completed alongside an examination it says as the questions are things like current condition of throat and gums, are glands enlarged etc

  13. Hi

DD has the ENBS finals on 22nd March we received an email today with a long form we need to get the GP to complete by the end of next week. Not sure how we are going to manage this as it’s about a 2 week wait for a doctors appointment unless it’s an emergency! Did anyone else get this?

Yes, much the same! There are 3 in her exam group.

Can they still do the RAD exams if they have studied under a different board? DD has advanced 1 but all her exams have been done with IDTA could she still do the RAD at NBS do you know?

    Hi,

Well done to her getting 3 offers! My DD also had to choose from these amongst offers. We also had a bursary offered for one of them.

My DD picked NBS and I’m so glad she did!
Excellent school who know their students well and many opportunities given. Care/safety is a high priority and teaching is well established. Job rates are extremely high with a lot of effort by the school for networking and helping students acquire jobs. Most importantly, DD has been extremely happy there and feels challenged and loves classes.

As for making choices between these 3, be careful not to just go on social media posts! It’s better to engage and talk to schools.
NBS is an established school but not so prominent on Social Media. Others show a good story on social media but when I did research, spoke to schools, I wasn’t as confident they were right for us.

When asking re their graduate posts that have been offered, look for honesty and a list of where recent students(previous 2 years) have worked, over a generic list offered of best students over the time of the college. What is the percentage of students getting jobs?

Ultimately, location is important too and how your child ‘feels’ at each. My DD had a strong feeling that she liked NBS and felt at home there! This never changed! She made the right choice!

Some perks to NBS: Students can still complete RAD exams, take part in regular performances, can complete a teaching qualification alongside.

We heard from some larger schools, students have to audition to even participate in the shows. At NBS, auditions take place for featured parts but not the show itself as all included.

There will be pros and cons to all of the schools! Just ask lots of questions!

Thank you for your advice, she really liked NBS and has decided she would like to go. We just need to wait to hear on the DADA results now and hope for the best 🤞🏻

  16. Hi

DD has 3 offers so far for upper school LSC Classical, NBS and the school we can’t name.

She is really struggling to make a decision and liked all 3 there are the financial pros with the one we can’t talk about in that she could take student funding. I’ve tried looking at graduate destinations as her dream is to dance in the corps de ballet anywhere. I know finding jobs can be hard after graduation and she’s happy to try to get a cruise ship contract/teach if this doesn’t work out but would one school give her a better chance of achieving this over any of the others does anybody have any advice please?
