Quite interesting that the performers on the DVD are clearly adults, considering the usual syllabus DVD I was expecting children. Seems they are definitely directing this towards adult dancers!

They are all Elmhurst students - year 11 and grad year x

Odd question, but any idea why they arranged them by height?? Or what sort of range there was? Dd is very conscious that she is a little taller than ‘ideal’, being 5ft 7 (and at 15 possibly still growing).

Tell her not to worry BlueLou - my 5ft 8" daughter was offered a place at Central last year  x

  4. Particularly interested if anyone comes across any ballerina tree decorations. We have been buying our dd one every year since she was a year 4 JA and promised we would do so until she has finished her training - we are now in 6:1. 😝

The problem is, the ornaments have to have good technique and every one I've found this year has been met with a disdainful look and comments such as "No way mom, just look at her feet!"

    Give me strength!!

  5. If you are travelling by train, national rail do 2 for 1 offers at some restaurants in a number of cities. Also, quite often you can get one off discounts for pub chains if you sign up for their emails (and then unsubscribe! ;) ) We have done this recently for All Bar One and Nicholson's pubs. X

  6. Just picked up via Elmhurst's Twitter account that they are holding audition experience days for both lower and upper school on the 8th October. These involve an introductory talk and Q and A with Robert Parker, a tour of the school for parents and chaperones and an audition style ballet class, which up to two accompanying adults can watch. This is in addition to the open days on the 22nd September and 6th October.

    Hi

Would anyone kindly be able to send me the Central audition photos please. I noted them all down from last years forms in preparation and now I need them as DD photos are being taken on Sunday I can't understand my short hand for one of them, and neither can DD, I've written " second position on full pointe " !!  Central website said yesterday application forms would be available today, but it's now saying 18/9.

    Thanks in Advance

Here's the link to the 2015 application form - can't imagine photo requirements have changed that much since then (and look familiar from our audition rounds last year.) list of photos on p2.

    Best of luck!

  8. Any other key stage 2 teachers out there? This might be of interest! (from the BBC website)

Ten Pieces and The Nutcracker – Live Lesson:

    13th November 2017, 11am

We’ll be working with the Royal Opera House and Royal Ballet School to bring you this Live Lesson full of dance and movement and characterization for 7 to 11 year olds. Students will learn to create their own original dance moves, inspired by Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. We’ve chosen music that also features on the Ten Pieces III Repertoire – inspiring a generation of children to get creative with classical music.

    Here's the link:

I don't work Mondays, otherwise I would definitely be doing this with my year 4s!

We will be applying this year. Is there any provision for if your income drops at all. I had quite a bit of extra/overtime last year that won't happen in the future.

Also are savings taken into account?

I believe that the drop in income has to be over a certain percentage to be eligible for reassessment but I could be wrong (this is for MDS and DaDA  - I was told 15% - I don't know about student finance.) I believe it is income earnt from savings that is taken into account (again happy to be corrected  on this!)

  10. You can sign up for unidays at 16 with lots of discounts similar to NUS. Bloch in London offer a 15% discount for vocational students but you have to register with them once the course begins. And of course, the 16-25 railcard, if you don't already have one (which you can get using clubcard vouchers if you have them!)

  11. There are two laundrettes on site for the Askham Bryan students in term time but I have no idea if the YBSS students have access to these. I shall be sending my dd with travel detergent and a radiator airer and strict instructions to do a daily hand wash or run the risk of running out of dance wear before the end of the two weeks!

  12. Just stumbled across these on the Elmhurst website/twitter feed - a series of 3 podcast interviews with the artistic director, Robert Parker and two graduate year students, including Genee bronze medalist Hamish Scott.

I've only had chance to listen to the first one so far, but found it very interesting!

  13. Lucky Leo do this beautiful Revolve top. It is designed to be worn with the revolve leotard but watching the 'how to wear it' video on the website, it looks to me like it could be worn over any leotard (maybe with the addition of a couple of loops as shown) quite expensive but if it worked, would transform lots of different  sleeveless leotards she may already have.

  14. We also had our £100 refunded one year when dd unexpectedly got White Lodge Summer School and a lovely 'hope she enjoys it' message from Miss Porter. I do think the YBSS team works incredibly hard to secure an unprecedented level of funded places and I am so grateful that my daughter, amongst many others, has been able to access such a fabulous summer school with an amazing faculty as a result.
