@DanceMamma - Do you mean that you're only sewing the ribbon into the lining of the shoe? My daughter goes through a pair a week and I've always gone straight through to the satin.

Yes, just sewing into the lining. It’s impossible with these shoes! She doesn’t go through them that quickly, usually 4 months wear, I’d definitely go through to the satin if I was doing it every week!

LOVE your forum name! Very appropriate! 😂

  2. Hi all, my DD usually wears Bloch pointe shoes with a canvas type lining which are easy to sew ribbons onto. She’s recently switched to capezio pointe shoes which have faux suede type lining. They’re really tricky to sew through. Does anyone have any tips or experience of sewing ribbons into these shoes? I feel defeated and like I might just have to sew through to the satin! Any help???

  3. DD is auditioning for RBS senior associates - prelims next week.  I’ve had a look on here for info but I couldn’t find much on seniors. Few wonderings …

Are there places available for dancers who haven’t been JA or MA?

Does anyone have experience of the audition class? What’s expected, pointe, flexibility etc?
I ticked the box for both SA and WL prelim, I don’t think she’s WL ready but I figured it’s best to let them say no, will the audition be any different to just SA groups?

DD is already in 2 well-known associates classes and attends summer intensives etc, but she has never tried for anything with RBS.

    Any advice, tips, info xxx

Hi, DS would have been in same audition as your daughter. He also attended the associates later on. He said both went really well but he’s yr9 so is being realistic about his chances at his age but he really enjoyed it.

Fingers crossed for them all 🤞🏼

Good luck to him! Were there many boys? I think I only saw one go in.

  5. DD uses the M&S ones. They do different styles and absorbencies, plus they seem to wash really well (she’s very irregular so they’re in constant use in case of emergencies!). She has some high leg pink ones that she wears quite happily under all of her leotards.

They have size 6 online, but the size 8 are quite tight fitting. Definitely worth a try if you’re after something inexpensive and easily available!

  6. Not seen any similar threads coming up for this years auditions so thought I’d re-activate this one. DD is trying again! In her words “if I don’t try then I’m giving myself an automatic no”.

She’s still in her other associate classes and is quite content to stick with them but wants to give the chance of a CAT place another go. She’s very aware of the minuscule chance of a recall, she never stops impressing me with her resilience!

I wanted to say good luck to anyone auditioning next weekend! 🩰🩰

I think you've said your dd is already in two associate schemes.  There is nothing wrong with sticking with those, focusing on those and giving yourselves a few years away from the audition rollercoaster.  But it's early days and you don't have to make any decisions now.  Next year is a long way off and a lot can happen.

She’ll continue with them but there’s always the risk of being assessed out. Her main associates is one of the well-known schools so she’s hoping to keep her place but it’s not guaranteed.

It was a no for my daughter too. ☹️
well done to all the other girls and good luck to you all for the final audition x

Sorry to hear that. I hope your daughter is ok.

After a few tears, DD is seeing that it’s more of a not yet or not here response. We’ve got lots of thinking to do though, I’m not sure either of us want another year of the ups and downs of auditions.

    What group was that?

11-12yr old. Went in at 8.45, audition 9-10.15. Maybe there were more groups?

She only auditioned for CAT though so maybe different group to the ones who didn’t look at flexibility?

My understanding was that the earlier group which was an older age group (11-12 years) didn’t do any flexibility assessment or pirouettes and did a lot of pliés. DDs group 10/11 years did pirouette prep, flexibility and corner work 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️  DD is applying for year 7 CAT so will have been an older one in the 12.15 group. She wasn’t in with her friend as they were also applying for associates whereas DD was just applying for CAT.

DD said they did flexibility in the morning group, but just hamstrings, frog and straddle I think? She’s not giving much away though. 😂

My daughter was in the same group. She really enjoyed it. It sounded completely different from the audition her friend was in first thing in the morning (both CAT)!

In what ways we’re they different? I wonder if it’s because they’re different age groups so maybe wanting different levels?
