Having missed the boat for summer intensive applications I'm bit stuck as what to do with the hundreds of weeks off (it seems!)  DD has off. Booked her in for a week at Malvern but trying to find something in July. Does anyone have experience of YDA or Ballet Boost holiday courses? Likely that it'll be a choice between one of them... She's 10 if it has any bearing.

Which week is she going? My 10 year old DD will be there week 2 😊

  2. My DD is year 5. We submitted via Google drive so I’ve no idea if they’ve viewed anything but it seems like the Mids are still waiting to hear and I can’t imagine they’ll do JAs before them. From other forum posts, I think anyone who wasn’t able to get to the WL finals were seen on zoom today, which means they can hopefully finalise the last few WL places, then Mids, then I guess they’ll move onto the JAs x

We just got a no along with “Please keep on working hard because as you gain strength and build on your technique, you might be ready next year.”

Next year, not even this year!

    I’m gutted for her.

It’s hard not to feel so incredibly disappointed for them. I think my daughter is a bit older than yours, but she still has so many years of loving dancing ahead of her so while I know she’ll be upset (I haven’t told her yet, we already had anxiety about going back to school!), I’m confident that this won’t ultimately be ‘the end’ of wanting to pursue what is currently her dream. There are other associate programmes(I know Ballet Boost take them from 8 years old), people to meet, things to learn and years to grow. Everything they do adds to their experience and for your little one to do this at her age is absolutely incredible and she must have such determination and courage. You must be so proud of her. Sending lots of sympathy and luck for the next time for you!

  4. We got a no, no specific corrections just a generic ‘very difficult to choose, lots of beautiful dancers, try again in September when we have more places and you might have improved enough ’. The lack of personal feedback tells me that she’s probably not what they’re looking for though! Congratulations to everyone that has a yes and I hope all the ‘not yets’ aren’t discouraged and continue to try!

Is it? There’s no dates on the website. I did email them a few weeks ago about applying but didn’t get a reply :(

Is that for Tring? I think we applied at the beginning of February and the people who’d applied then got the video requirements a couple of weeks later. The website says they’ll have dates for summer auditions soon though 😊

  6. It still says today on the website. It’s funny because my DD did an online JA insight day in Feb and they were very clear that they wouldn’t accept applications after 11am on the 23rd March. My only guess is that they realised their submission date was pretty close to the WL finals and results so maybe they wanted to keep them separate.

I wonder how long it’ll be until we hear - the Tring CBA submission deadline is today and they’ve said we should hear by the 15th April. But last summer it was about 6 weeks before we heard about JAs so I’m trying not to think about it too much 😂

  7. We applied at the beginning of February and got the email with the video application details a couple of weeks later. I think this round is closed but I’m sure there’ll be another set of auditions nearer the summer 😊

I haven't uploaded it yet. I still need to retake the photos. I was going to send it via Vimeo because I've used that before. Do you think most people do YouTube?

I haven't uploaded it yet. Still need to take the photos. I was going to upload it via Vimeo. I've never used YouTube. Is YouTube recommended / preferable?

We’ve just sent ours off with a video link to Google Drive - I think if I could see how many views etc I’d drive myself nuts analysing it all!

  9. I read that as not wearing a black leotard with a dark background (or equivalent with other colours!). If it’s going to bother you and you have time tomorrow I’d be tempted to redo, but then send the video that you think shows your little one off best.

My DS (from the north!) has made the WL waitlist. He doesn’t have an Instagram. We did absolutely no additional training, no private lessons, no one to one coaching. Just his normal ballet class and JA class via Zoom. Looking at the results and seeing all these posts on Instagram, as well as his reaction to the news, I can’t help but feel I have let him down by not realising this was the apparent ‘norm’ 😓

You absolutely haven’t let him down - wait list is an incredible achievement and he should feel so proud of himself. And even if he hadn’t made wait list, or finals even, you’ve nurtured his love of dance which is the most important thing I think! As so many have said (on this post and others) vocational school at 11 isn’t the only way to achieve a career in dance. I hope he gets over his disappointment soon - easier said than done I know!

  11. My DD (year 5) has recently asked for an Instagram account so she can follow other dancers who are as passionate as she is - among her peer group at dancing she’s the only one who is keen to pursue additional classes like associates and intensives and wanted the chance to connect a bit with others. It’s made me really aware of the opportunities that other dancers have had, especially over lockdown with online masterclasses etc! There does seem to be a high proportion of vocational successes among the dancers who have a large number of followers, are ambassadors etc but there must be many others who have a smaller online presence (or none at all!) so I remain hopeful that it does go on potential.

We're filming my daughter's audition and doing photo's today - just a little last minute - but finding the space has been hard! She got SWL last time and as a result did the Junior Engagement programme via zoom with RBS which was great!

I've been trying to find other associate courses for her to apply to, she's 8, can anyone recommend any? She's already with Ballet Boost.

Good luck to everyone's small people in their applications!! xx

Tring CBA takes them when they’re 7/8 I think. They haven’t announced their summer audition dates yet though. Elmhurst is from year 4 but they haven’t announced their audition dates either yet. Southeast Ballet Scholars is from 8 years old and they’re auditioning on the 18th April.

We only filmed our video yesterday, our entire living room needed to be rearranged so we had space to film and I was putting it off 😂 hope it all goes well for your daughter today!

  13. She’s not in her splits in any direction, hips are quite tight etc. so her froggy is far from flat. She’s working on it though - and yes it’s a process rather than a destination! But I see other dancers her age who are in oversplits etc and I think that it may immediately rule her out despite her musicality and obvious love of dance.

  14. Ballet boost, southeast ballet scholars and royal ballet junior associates. She applied for RB junior associates last year and didn’t get in and I wondered whether she’d be put off by that but she’s determined to keep trying! She’s not at all flexible though so I think that may go against her.

Good luck to your daughter too!

  15. I’d guess that they want to see the kids do their best so I think I’d either email them again and let them know what you think she can do - it’s the only associate application that’s required my 10 year old to do an arabesque en l’air (from what I’ve seen it tends to be 11+ that are asked to do that) so I think it’s a standard list that went to everyone. Either that or film her doing her grade 2 set exercises and when you submit explain then that she’s not covered much allegro etc in class but she’s done her best. We’re pretty new to all of this but I imagine they want to see a love of dance, musicality and potential rather than perfection.

  16. What has she been asked to show? We’ve applied for my 10 year old and I think the only thing that is more challenging than we initially expected is the pirouette but I wouldn’t expect a 7 year old to necessarily be able to do the other stuff that’s required.
