Ballet-taxi

It was Zobia who showed us round. She said there was another flat that was for NBS students but now only had 1 as they could no longer block it for NBS students due to timing. She then said it was really important that NBS students booked quickly and didn’t wait for funding as they couldn’t hang in to the rooms. 
I thought she meant she was trying to fill it with NBS students but maybe I misunderstood! 
Maybe call Zobia and check! 

 

We just went to visit New Medlock Halls where my DD is booked into They are getting 2 new dance studios, games room and study areas put in before September and they have free use of cinema room, gym and karaoke room in Parkway Gate next door. The newly refurbished rooms and kitchens look good too. 

They explained that if any other NBS students want a room with other NBS students in flats they should book now and if they don’t get their DADA and can’t take room, there’s no problem pulling out but safer to book now. 

We are in blue too. 

Just a wee note for anyone attending the Northern Ballet School Easter Workshop, apparently students are being put into 2 groups but all those who have been offered spaces for September are being put together in one group! 

 No, we haven’t heard anything yet.

Does anyone know if you would hear back either way, or only if successful?

I think it came in the portal but took about 24hours to come through. Did you fill in the application on the portal? You need to do that first.

I am sure there will be rooms left at New Medlock. There are quite a few in here that are going to NBS/New Medlock House. It’s best to call them directly. This number (01612368487) should work and you can ask for Zobia. You must explain that she is a NBS student and under 18 to be put into a shared flat with other NBS/ under 18 students.

Some people are still waiting to hear back from Finals from some colleges and if accepted there, may turn down their spaces so I’m sure rooms will still become available even from the existing NBS flats within the next couple of weeks. 
My DD was offered a DADA last week for NBS so they have started the process but I think they only do a few at a time. But sadly some rooms may also be given up, if people don’t get offered a DADA but the process is slow so it might take a long time till people know. 
NBS are also offering an Easter workshop that several of the new starts are attending so might be worth looking into, if your DD is interested.

And my DD is in flat 50 so sounds like NBS flats are close! I’m sure they’ll go between flats!

we received the offer from the portal but  I am reluctant to accept not knowing the funding situation, we are waiting on funding decisions and an offer from other places still! Also LSC want a deposit next week and I am not ready to make decisions, we still do not know which is the best option. I am still drawn  to Northern, it was her top choice before auditioning, we have had some curve balls though! 

LSC has offered us an extension so I’m sure you’d get the same if you want to keep it open. 
However I’ve committed to New Medlock halls so will be a long commute to London. 🤣

I had to go back to NBS and explain I hadn’t had anything from BIMM. So eventually I got it and ‘created an account’ as it said but all I did to do this, was give an email and password.

Only afterwards, I checked and found out I needed to do another application through them. 
So I’m still waiting for the formal offer and terms to read!!!

My degree does not equip me for all this dance admin! It’s not easy!🤣

That would have been good…but too far! That’s a great opportunity to see what to expect! 

We have booked DD in for the Easter Workshop though. Apparently quite a few of the new intake have booked so will be good for them to meet up! 

We have booked a room in New Medlock and managed to speak directly to Zobia. She was reassuring with booking. So ‘verbally’ it all sounded ok if you didn’t get funding.

There are terms and conditions if you don’t take up your space etc in writing but ‘verbally’ it sounded like you would get out ok! It also states that if they fill the room it’s ok.

Zobia at New Medlock was very good at confirming that as long as they book in a flat reserved for Northern Ballet Students only, they can guarantee only ‘under 18s’ will be put in flat. They have quite a few of NBS students and I got the feeling they were keen to have them as students! Think the 16 year old NBS students are well behaved and good residents!!! 🤣

So…we just took the chance and booked so just have to hope all works out!

That’s fab! It’s great that it’s before the summer and they’ll all have met each other!

NM have only a 7 day cooling off period before you're basically liable for the whole year unless they fill your place. 

Dd is DESPERATE to attend and says Manchester is where she should be but we won't even be able to send her unless she gets DaDA funding. Aaarghhh!

@SkibidiWe have booked but haven't committed anything other than a booking form.  I was told that I could hang off with deposit at this stage.  I wasn't told about a cooling off period but actually haven't signed anything other than a booking form giving student's details. I haven't signed to any terms and conditions as such.

We also are waiting to hear from one and have a recall but just like you, my DD seems to be set on NBS. I think they will be able to fill space as if your DD doesn't take her space, someone else will and will want a room. Fingers crossed it all works and well done to your daughter!

When we originally booked NM I found that the staff ( was Easter then I think Zobia not sure if it has changed again )  were very mindful of ages of NBS students & not mixing uni & NBS students as their days are so different. I would just suggest talking to who is now over sales & voice your concerns & get as much info / reassurance as possible. As a mom I know how difficult it is for us to place our dds or dds in the hands of someone else & we have to get it right!

Yes, it is Zobia and she was extremely helpful. I just emailed. It took a while for her to get back in touch(may be part time) but when she did, she was super helpful.

Artisan Heights looked fab but was just too big a difference in price for us. So for 1st year, we’re going with New Medlock. I’m sure there will be students booking into both though. It would be good to put them all in contact with each other whichever accommodation they are in. 

My DD has booked into New Medlock last week. She is booked into the New Medlock flat that they have kept for new NBS under age students. It was a flat of 5 but I think she was the only one in when I booked it.

Ahh, thank you! That explains it! We did sent the acceptance back after November’s audition result but with an email saying that we wouldn’t fully decide till all auditions were complete at the end of this week so perhaps that is why, we haven’t had a further email with the link.

Oh, I am only aware of the first email with offer. We have not fully accepted space yet as my DD’s final auditions are this week. She has 6 offers but she has been very keen on NBS from the start. However I haven’t confirmed anything until she has been to all and is 100% sure. Though I think she is. 
I will check over initial letter and see if I can see link. I may have missed it!

@Jo Jo, that’s good to hear! I have been in discussion with New Medlock who also have a flat blocked off for NBS students. Did you visit New Medlock too? My husband noticed there was quite a price difference between the two!🤣

There are a few new starts in this thread. This would be good!

It might be a good idea to coordinate together or even get the ‘new starts’ a group chat together. 
I haven’t properly checked out the accommodation yet. I think there are at least 3 of them on here now. Well done to your DD.👏

@mum5678, My DD did lyrical at her audition but there were people who did ballet too. I wouldn’t worry too much about which style but do the one he feels most confident with. Good luck with the audition.

I'm happy to see that US are now offering free cancellations as this wasn't the case last year & I had several conversations with staff about this & was first rejected but later on accepted that ...as we know funding can be a very last minute thing ! Also make sure you do say for NBS students as they will try & place the students together they  also were mindful that NBS students can be age 16+ unlike most of the other students who will be 18+. Again we have had no problems with dwell MSV accomodation & my daughter plans on staying there next year. I believe that there is refurb being done & rooms are being rebranded.
