Firstly huge thanks to those in support-

For those finding reason to be up in arms about this - well its quite frankly exhausting to read!!!

    There is a pandemic.

The school welcome the funds from our rental and Didy wanted to create work for herself as much of her expertise involves travelling the world.

Its really as straight forward as that!!!!!! Nothing underhand or secretive. Clearly too much time is spent overthinking and looking for the bad in everything!!!

I am helping a friend launch and create a business.

Mr Powney is merely helping his wife out (for no money.) He is not being paid.

We have jumped through all sorts of hoops. More covid secure than you could ever imagine!!!!!!!

We are all decent people that thought ;" wouldn't it be nice to provide further opportunity to help dancers with their contemporary.  Why don't we......."

From the kindness of wanting to help dancers get to their goals. THATS ALL.

No secrey, no blurred lines just trying to help.

    In running this course;

    We help white lodge

    We help students

And possibly if I think a dancer I know should have got in but they didn't- then YES why wouldn't I mention this to Mr Powney. Why shouldn't he come in to watch?!!!!!

What on earth is wrong with that????

We are all just trying to help the dancers.  There is nothing underhand......

I am quite frankly dismayed by the outcry.

The ballet world has its issues but people are kinder and fairer than you can imagine at the top. Mr Powney is a wonderful person who is just beong kind and open.

Didy and I could easily run this elsewhere but why wouldn't we choose to support that school. They too need funds to provide scholarships and every little helps!

Really have a long hard think about why some of you are attacking this course.

I am truly dumbfounded and quite upset that when we, Didy and I, just wanted to provide hope and insight after these difficult months- that its not being taken for what it is.

We thought it would be a treat to use those beautiful studios. That's all!!!

In terms of blurred lines re Mr Powney- obviously its been scrutinised by RBS. Everything we post goes via them to ensure at no time its sold as an RBS Course.

Many RBS associate teachers run schools and teach privately all with their associates in it!!!

Anita Young teaches on courses and also the odd private.

    People need to work.

Teachers are passionate- if we can help we want to.

Thats all this course is!!!!!! Just humans helping humans with no ulterior motive.

So calm down and either be grateful or leave us to help others.

    Simple as that.

Thank you Emma for this straightforward and honest response. I really couldn’t believe what I was reading over the weekend. It looks like a great opportunity to experience something different for dance students and a fantastic experience for those able to join. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

I absolutely agree with you @Yrosered

If people we deal with in everyday life behaved like this would we be so accepting? If a doctor didn't  bother listening would people say "Well have you any idea how many patients she has seen this week, and you really aren't that sick are you?" Or if a regular school teacher gave a class with his eyes shut would it be  "Gosh, he must get sick of having to spend every day with kids, you should be grateful be bothers to turn up at all?" If a checkout operator was rude we would probably complain. If you work in a public facing job there is a standard that your clients can reasonably expect, no matter how tired, bored, hot, cold etc you are. How can we hold shop assistants to a higher standard of behaviour than we do people entrusted with the care of children and young people, simply because they represent an elite institution?

A poster hit the nail on the head in another thread recently, talking about the "humble gratitude" that parents and children are expected to exhibit in these circumstances. Yes, we all know that the performing arts world is tough, but these are children and their parents have paid a sum of money which for some will be a significant amount, for this experience. The should be able to expect politeness as a minimum.

Some sectors of dance education are stuck in a mindset that most of the rest of the educational world abandoned decades ago, and it really does need to change.

Very well said. It really does need to change.

Maybe. RAD started awarding metal badges with a pin along with certificates when my DD reached Grade 3 (2013) just for the graded exams not Vocational.  Just not too sure when and where they are supposed to wear them 😉

  4. My dd waitlisted for tring mds but will accept elmhurst so hopefully that allows someone else on the wait list a chance for these mds places being returned. Fingers crossed more of your dc get their wish xxx

  5. Just wanted to say what a lovely day my dd has at elmhurst finals yesterday. She really enjoyed the class and met some lovely girls during the day. We saw them walking around the school chatting and smiling. Well done Elmhurst for creating a friendly atmosphere for what is obviously a big day. Made a good end to a long and arduous process, whatever the outcome. Good luck to all xx

  6. I heard 5-6 MDS places in total but that could be for just year 7 I find it all so confusing. Basically very few!  Sounds like it’s an evolving thing over the next few weeks though. I asked them a few months ago and that was an estimate but have heard it from others since. Balletbrokemybank given the higher amount of funding available your son could have s better chance at elmhurst.... fingers crossed for him. After 24 hours of feeling very upset I’m now more calm, but it is hard to deal with when you’d rather take the hit than have them on the receiving end. Good luck to all this week.

Eeek....we were there today but not kept for physio, my daughter went away very disappointed. Almost tears in her eyes. I told her it doesn’t mean anything and not to read into it! Now it’s the waiting game! Tutu girl I believe they said they would sit down at the end of the day and make their decisions and try to get letters out ASAP. Fingers crossed for everyone!

We’re in the same boat as you and I’m afraid I’m now not at all hopeful as I saw who they kept back and all strong dancers and some WL finalists, so I’ve written it off. Got elmhurst later in the week just hope she can keep it together until the end of Thursday so she comes away feeling ok about it, whatever happens. Really good luck to everyone else for anything else your dc are going for this week.

As far as I remember, it was a standard ballet class - barre, centre work / adage,  pirouettes and allegro. Nothing else. It was slightly more challenging than the first audition. Some people were sent for physio afterwards.

    Thank you that’s helpful.

  9. Hi my dd has a funding audition at tring next week. Is there anyone who did this last year who is able to give a bit more info about what the ballet class involved... there’s ballet classes and ballet classes! Was it s fairly standard barre, centre, and fast bits st the end ( sorry not the right lingo!) , was there any improvisation, anything else? A few tips would be great. Thanks. Good luck to all those doing these auditions everywhere in the next couple of weeks xx

Thanks Mak, I thought for both, maybe I didn't tick the right box and it was just for Mids!  She only applied for Mids last year, I thought we had put both this year but if others have heard and we haven't then maybe I made a mistake.  I have just logged in and can't access that part of the application to check.

I think I might have done the opposite, applied just for WL!!  I’m sure I ticked both but it’s not showing on the info I can see and I can access the original application any more. I’ve emailed them. Sigh.
