Yes, thank you, just came here to say that! Although they were generous about it this week - I tried to return my ticket "for resale" and by the time I had been enlightened about the new rules, it was less than 24 hours before the performance. They still gave me the gift certificate (and, as it turns out, also resold the seat on the day of the performance so everyone wins).

The same happened to me, but I received an email from the box office saying there was ‘nothing they could do’. A waste of both my money and someone else’s opportunity to buy last-minute seats!

I'd like to see Sophie Allnatt as Clara, as she's stood out for me in the corps since she joined the RB, but as her only performance is a Saturday matinee I fear there would be a lot of children in the audience.

I rather wish it wasn't, as I like Clarke but don't really like Osipova. I was hoping to finally get to see him as Romeo, having had tickets in 2019 to see him with both Hamilton & Nunez, but I'm not sure I want to see Osipova's Juliet.

    Osipova’s Juliet is worth seeing.

  3. Really enjoyed last night and thought it such a coup to open not with obvious crowd-pleasers, but instead with bold, cutting-edge works which seem to be taking the ROH into a more interesting direction.
‘Within the Golden Hour’ was beautifully performed and a useful opener to ease the audience back in.
The Kyle Abraham, titled ‘Optional Family: A Divertissement’, wasn’t immediately apparent to me in terms of narrative, but I enjoyed the humorous introduction and energetic choreography, which was a brilliant showcase for Osipova’s virtuosity (I wonder if it will have the same impact with the other casts). I hope to understand it better on second viewing.
‘The Statement’ was original in both form and tone, veering between satirical and disturbing which, coupled with strong performances, made it the evening’s most captivating piece for me.
I found ‘Solo Echo’ very powerful in its choreography, but here I had a couple of reservations: The cellist’s performance was lacklustre, and while I understood the point of the minimalist lighting, the baggy black semi-tailored costumes looked dated and obscured too much of the movement.

    Thrilled to be back!

It's poor publicity for ROH again though, especially when ex-Chancellor George Osbourne's name was bandied about as a possible replacement. I can't say I would be in favour of his appointment given the current atmosphere of cronyism & sleaze within the Conservative government & another chum being placed at ROH might be ill-timed.

At least, unlike the current government, he seems to have a genuine interest in the arts.

The Guardian item implies that it will be an 'invited audience' only:

"Unless the rules change, there will be a specially invited and socially distanced audience that will include students and health workers"

I hate to be a cynic (that's a lie, I love it), but surely inviting 'health workers' is a likely way of getting Covid into the building? I hope they are ballet-loving health workers at least, otherwise I would like their tickets please (and willing to pay/empty my savings account/support the arts)

That was basically why I wanted to check if I was interpreting Instagram correctly. I didn't want to assume 2 dancers were a couple only to find out later that I was wrong and they weren't, just in case that led to any embarassing assumptions.

If this is about who I think it is, may I just point out that there is a very public Vogue article which refers to the man as the woman’s ‘boyfriend’.

  7. Thoughts from last night:

The magnificent Marianela Nunez is at the height of her abilities. Her interpretation of Aurora is more mature than in the last run, and seeing a ballerina of such confidence and artistry in a classical ballet is a privilege, whether her role is supposed to be a teenager or not.
Vadim Muntagirov - pyrotechnics were astonishing as always, but his Act II solo almost moved me to tears.
Magri and Zucchetti were the most lively Bluebirds I've seen in this run.

Why do even the best of dancers look so uncomfortable in the Prologue?

Going to a performance of Sleeping Beauty and then hearing the score at twice the speed in the shop is a strange experience.

Is Téo Dubreuil the RB's answer to Timothée Chalamet?

Perhaps I am just not that sensitive or that I missed what parts were considered culturally insensitive, or that some are overly sensitive. It was written at I time when there was fascination with everything eastern, with very little being known about it. Would anyone care to expand on the insensitivity matters, I was just focussed on the music and the performances..

Oh dear, silly joke, I believe the serious discussion was elsewhere
