  1. Hi..my daughter is interested in the Tring summer (dance not musical theatre) course but she’s never done tap. Can’t find info on site as to if it’s necessary- anyone know? The only course requisite is ballet but then it asks for you to list experience in tap/jazz/contemporary etc.

    Thanks!

  2. I don’t think you can look for s reason.  So many children, so few spaces. My friends daughter got a yr4 place and she can’t do splits so it really is a combination of factors they are looking for x

  3. I think that was the youngest audition group....I know they run them in age order. So possibly girls in there who won’t be 8 until just before end August but I don’t think they would have anyone younger in. Did you not see them going in to the audition yourself? If your daughter is also one of the youngest in her year that might be why she’s smallest at school but not necessarily smallest among a whole bunch of other late summer birthday children?

  4. I’m not sure ‘what went wrong’ is the way to think about it....as many have said (and I am clinging to) you never know what they are looking for and clearly it isn’t just body shape as so many examples on here of girls of different heights/build being accepted. Combine that with the huge number of applicants to spaces and it becomes not that the ones who didn’t get in did something wrong, but that the ones who do get in were a bit more ‘right’ on the day.

As for hours of training- Probably only you and your daughter knows what is right. Is she already at Elmhurst or starting in sept? Maybe see how the first term goes doing both if Elmhurst is a new thing and you can see how you both feel then/get input from teachers?

Gym coach is clearly trying to ‘push’ your daughter, maybe the technique would work if her heart was more in it but sounds like it might not be and it’s doing the opposite?

others will be able to help with effects of extended gym training in ballet bodies but strength and flexibility is a good thing...you might just need to find the right balance of the two activities for your daughter x

Only me again! Would be very interested to know if anyone actually gets invited to join on the day of audition, on the information sheet given it said some children may be offered a place on the day?

I’ve heard of children going for MA places who on the day have been suggested they audition for WL but not of anyone actually being offered Associates places on the day -can’t imagine they would do that with the number of groups they have to see?

  6. From what our daughters teacher said, they aren’t looking for the ‘finished’ product so performance and technical ability aren’t that important (musicality is to some degree). From JAs that she’s had in the past she said that  they pretty much go right back to basics in the classes - so they are looking for a combination of physique (which I think is why they do the socks off checks and poses at the beginning to start narrowing down) together with musicality from the short impro and whether the child will respond to their teaching (pays attention, interested etc during the audition). They have very few places and a lot of applicants so I suppose they can be afford to be picky...

I agree not convinced it’s alphabetical, I reckon Royal Email Fairy has had a gin and is just sending randomly!

I love this idea. My daughter likes leaving notes for the tooth fairy...maybe I’ll put a note under my pillow for the Royal Email Fairy tonight ....and leave a gin next to the fireplace -just to cover all eventualities!
