  1. I hope it's ok to start a thread for 2020 auditions for The Royal Ballet School. I see there is an Elmhurst thread and it's been lovely to read. We're on the audition circuit this year for year 7 and always find it helpful and supportive to find a thread with people going through the same thing. Good luck to everyone auditioning this year and big hugs to the supportive parents who ride the rollercoaster with them! X

The girls in group 1 all seemed to be associates, and I think a few of the boys were royal JAs. I wondered if that was deliberate grouping? I know from previous threads children have felt a little intimidated seeing associate uniform at auditions.

It might be deliberate grouping, but who knows how they sort all that lovely talent out!

My ds had a great time. The London boys had an email to audition for the sleeping beauty earlier this week.  Unfortunately, due to the time commitment and days off school my ds won’t be able to audition for it , so feeling a bit deflated. Anyone else in the same position?

My son had this email. We are not doing the audition. He's in his third year as a JA in year 6. He is auditioning for vocational school this year and this commitment to do Sleeping Beauty would mean too much time out of training and audition prep. Don't be down, and just enjoy your time as a JA. X

I've received an email back saying that eventbrite is definitely the official channel to apply through, so about to apply for my DS. Anybody who did this last year that could provide any insight into what it was like? Sounds like an absolutely incredible opportunity!

My son did it last year, it was an amazing opportunity but a big commitment as last year the rehearsals were in Birmingham. Started in October half term and then about 6 Wednesday evening's after school. We travelled from Essex on the Wednesdays, rehearsed for around 2 hours and travelled back the same night and my son slept in the car. I don't mind driving and we saw it as an adventure on Wednesdays. Children were looked after wonderfully and we throughly enjoyed the experience! X

    Hi everyone,

my son will be in year 5 and in JA4 boys 32 sessions in London. Anyone else?

    Happy summer!

PS: Has anyone bought the uniform already?

My son was in JA4 this year as a Year 5 and staying in this class as a Year 6. The teacher is wonderful and my son loves the fact it's an all boys class! Welcome, and hope you enjoy it! X

    Hi all,

I’ve also been lurking for a while!

We are waiting for London results. My son auditioned to go into year 4. I’ve since heard that very few places are offered in year 4 - does anyone know if this is the case? And how many they usually take in year 4? All this waiting for results is giving me too much time to think!!! 🙈

My son is currently a Year 5 London JA. When he was a Year 4, there were 4 Year 4 Boys. X

Where did fog find our the ja1 info?

My son was in JA1 from September 2017 to July 2018 as a Year 4 so we knew the Year 4 children in that class that academic year.

So, how many London classes do they have and roughly how many new tiny ones who will be in year 4 do they select? Do they have a separate class for boys? Or is it so different that you never know?

Last year my son was in the Year 4/5 mixed class in London. There were only 4 Boys and 4 Girls who were Year 4. This was JA1. My son this year is in an all boys class Years 5 and 6. JA4. Not many Year 4 places. My daughter has auditioned this year for year 4 but we know the chances are slim.

You might be pleasantly surprised, all of you with 7 year olds!  My very inexperienced August born dd was a ‘Rising 8’ (as RBS referred to them!) at the auditions a fair few years ago and surprised everyone by being offered a place! She had the best three years as a JA. Good luck to all the little ones. Enjoy your special dancing day out!

Was this in the London centre? What an amazing achievement to be accepted at 7. Just get a feeling they don't like taking very young year 3's. Xx

What an amazing opportunity this was, Does anyone know if they hold auditions for this every year?  I can imagine rehearsals start very early on. 😊

They did last year and this year at The Royal Albert Hall. Have not heard any announcement yet about next year. Rehearsals start in October half term. All rehearsals this year were in Birmingham. X

Capezio Hanami’s from the Capezio shop. 100% recommended by my professional (at last ! Yay) dancer DS. Other dancers often ask him where he got them. And pre-sewn elastics (double Yay). Dancia are a great shop too if the Capezios aren’t liked for any reason.

My son loves Capezio Hanami too! We've tried various makes but these are his favourite that we now stick to. A few boys from his ja class also have them. X

Aw lovely maybe we will see each other. My ds has been offered 24 sessions - glad about that as he has only just turned 8

That's the class he is currently in. Lovely teacher and he has had a wonderful year! He is moving up to 32 sessions JA4 in September. Well done! X
