  1. It was Tala Lee Turton who went to Bolshoi. Her website is talaleeturton Wordpress. You can contact her/read about her journey.

You can try and raise funds on gofundme but be prepared to get some negative comments as some people don't realise the hardship of getting a place. Recently I read one and some comments were suggesting dancers should just go to normal college. However other people had donated so you never know.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

  2. After Easter, I will also be running a range of open classes in Warwick - including a general dance conditioning class (in addition to a jump training class, a turns class and ballet technique classes). Teachers permission must be obtained by students wishing to attend.

    When would these be?

  3. Was it definitely 2 letters? Our letter said on this occasion we cannot invite to finals but hope xxx continues as Eyd. Then the last part said we could contact, if we wished.

It is hard sometimes to understand. It maybe they just did not score as highly as some others. Occasionally it can be marginal eg 1 or 2 points of.

  4. We also had a no for year 8 finals but said it hoped dd would continue as ext associate. Letter did say we could contact for further support too. Have not told dd yet. Her friend got a yes so it will be hard but onwards and upwards. Good luck to those still waiting

  5. Actually, it is the requirement of the teacher to have Dbs and safeguard. We often have 14-16 year olds visiting university and it is mine and my colleagues duty to keep them safe whilst there. The other students are all adults. Therefore, you should be fine as you are not responsible for them and unlikely to be left alone with them. My dd used to have an adult attend her class and there was never an issue. I would discuss with the teacher and try the class.

  6. To teach in gym/leisure centre you can be employed. Average rates £15-20 an hour. You can also do self employed and you need to register as such. The tax office usually run info classes on setting up, ni contributions, filing expenses and completing tax returns.

Yes, Zumba is 1 day course, as is step and some circuit qualifications. It depends which board you do it with but Cyq and ocr usually expect a level 2 qualification such as etm, gym instructor. Personal trainer, fitness post pregnancy, fitness for cardiac rehab are all level 3.

  7. Following on from Lin M, years ago I use to attend Nicky Bentley's jazz classes at Pineapple. They were superb and you can still buy the Dvd. They were very popular and she was the first to say she was self taught.

I agree if you want a highly technical ballet class then you look for a very good teacher. The op said she just wanted to teach a 'free' ballet class and I would suggest it can be done.

  8. If an instructor is teaching Zumba they will have passed exercise to music and then added on Zumba training. The etm course has a and p in it, a written and practical assessment. Of course, someone could just set themselves up. The law can be lax. (Not going off topic but just adding in that many Zumba teachers are qualified and regulated). Several dance teachers add this on as it attracts a new customer base.

  9. Are you aiming for adults or children? If it was adults then you could offer balletcise. I agree most parents prefer syllabus. BBO is becoming very popular. There is also Istd Cecchetti, Natd, Btda, legat, vaganova, Uka etc. You could see what the requirements are for each.

  10. You can do an exercise to music qualification which covers you for aerobics and dance in general.

It is a level 2 course. You can get indemnity insurance through the guild of professional teachers of dance. You can even go on and do level 3 so you can teach in hospitals/nursing homes, exercise after pregnancy etc. These courses are offered in fe colleges.

You would need to make it clear to customers it is non-syllabus class.

If you wanted to enter children/adults for exams eventually then you would have to pursue a ballet teaching qualification.

  11. Personally, I would explain to the original school that she was taking Rad ballet and participated in tap whilst there. I would then explain she has opportunity to do her tap exam. They may ask you to choose but it seems silly to wait for non-existent date with them. You could then say she will continue with them for istd ballet but do tap at new school, if it is an issue.
