  1. I know LoobyLou i watched that. He did mention they take all different heights but didn't really mention physique, only that it was an aesthetic art.

It was my dd teacher that said they have a tick box and she wouldn't get the ticks for long limbs, long neck and short body. She is petite and in proportion all over.

Maybe they can't discriminate 'officially' a certain body type? Many have said their dc don't have these proportions and have got in so i think it is worth a go if they want to try.

  2. Thank you. Sorry for hijacking your thread xanthe!

My dd is adamant she wants to try even though i have told her she is unlikely to get in and she was there when the teacher said it would be a no. She is a very determined little girl!

Will speak to her teacher again tonight telling her she is auditioning.

  3. My dd is only grade 1 so i know it is not the same but she took primary exam last July and her teacher said ahe was ready for gade 1 exam in the November as she picks things up quickly but we decided to wait and she is now taking it in March. My dd uses the RAD Syllabus APP which she enjoys and helps her practise at home. I would aim to do it and possibly have a few extra private lessons nearer to the exam if needed.

  4. Can her dance teacher help her after school today or tomorrow during the day if dd could take an hour off school for an 'appointment'?

Seems a shame not to apply with the best photos when she has been so close before.

  5. Thank you. I have always known about the ideal body type but i thought she does have lots of the other atributes ie, good feet, stamina, stength, musicality, good memory, great flexability and gracefulness etc. Her teacher told me today that they have a tick box regarding body type which she will not get ticks for ie, long limbs, long neck and short back. Think i will have another chat with her next week.

  6. She is very strong Moomin. She does 6 hours of gymnastics a week, in the squad.

Her teacher has said she is like a robot!

She has lots of stamina and energy, the problem is her body shape. She is a skinny minnie, all in proportion. Maybe she should stick with gymnastics!

  7. Feeling a bit deflated just now. We have just got in from ballet and after asking my dd teacher about rbs associate auditions she said she thought my dd would be a no and go for it next year rather than this year.

She said she has potential and beautiful feet but does not have the 'ideal' body proportions for rbs.

I knew this really but now doubting wether she should go for it at all. My dd knows it is highly unlikely to get in and we have discussed it at length. Am i just wasting her time and building her up for a fall? My husband thinks i should just leave it.

Her teacher told me to have a think about it. She said if i decide to go for it she wants full control of photos, hair in braids, new leo of her choice, new ballet shoes and extra coaching etc. I had the impression none of this mattered it was all about potential.

By the way, she knows what she is talking about she has been to white lodge and is an rbs teacher.

  8. My dd is applying this year too and i think it does say on the application form to mention it to your teacher and the form asks for the dance teachers name and dance school. I wouldn't have thought they would contact them though, they have too many applications and i don't think you need permission.

I personally wouldn't mention any health issues on the form if she is fit and healthy.

My dd will be just 8 by september and is very petite, 118cm.

  9. I hope she won't mind, but she hasn't said my dd should apply although she says she has potential. I don't think she has the 'ideal' RBS body so maybe thats why?

My dd wants to apply anyway so we will along with any other associates within a certain distance

  10. I changed my dd's school in Sept, she is 7 nearly 8

Although she was happy there and her teacher was very good she could only do 1 45 mintute class per week for her grade and she wanted to dance more. The new school could offer alot more.

There were a few tears at the beginning, she missed her teacher but she soon settled in and would not go back now. They soon adapt at that age.

  11. We also have the RAD DVD'S and they are good for practising at home.

There is a teacher showing the steps and dances and then the children doing them.

There is music A and music B so must cover all formats.

  12. Tropicmama, my daughter is 7 and only does 1 hour of ballet per week at the moment. She does 6 hours of gymnastics and other stuff so is very busy.

Her ballet teacher is an RBS associate teacher and has said she often gets children who have only been dancing for a few months on 30 mins a week. I have been told it is all about potential at this age so wouln't worry at all about the quantity rather the quality of teaching. My dd is hoping to apply next time for associates x

  13. I wish i had known you could do 2 grades at the same time to get more hours in a few months ago.

My 7yr dd was at a small dance school. She did 1 40 minute class a week and was wanting to do more.It was a good school, she got 96% in her first exam -Primary. I did mention to her dance teacher twice about doing more ballet and she said she would sort something out. Maybe this is what she meant. Anyway after asking twice over 6 months and nothing happening i decided to move her to a bigger dance school with a big timetable of classes and as she did a summer school there and enjoyed it and i thought there would be more opportunities for her.

She is enjoying it but every week she asks to go back to her old school. She misses her old dance teacher so much, The school was very cliquey and none of the girls spoke to her. They all went to the same school apart from my dd so i didn't think she would be bothered but she is.

I feel so bad that i have moved her now when she was happy where she was.

  14. Aww Lisa what a good friend you are.

My dd is only 7 and I do worry about the cost of everything. At the moment she does the minimum, one 40 minute class a week but I know that will soon change as she progress's and wants to improve. I know nothing about dance but have learnt a lot from here and hopefully it will help me make some informed decisions about what's best for her and what is good value for money.

I worked overtime for the past 2 months to send her to a summer school. I have 2 other children and like to think the spare money is shared between my family. I too have asked for money for birthdays, Xmas to buy her the leotards and dance bag that she wants.

  15. My dd also did the Centre Pointe summer school in Denton. It was her first one, she is 7 so we didn't know what to expect. She was apprehensive but was made to feel so welcome and everyone was really friendly. There were 3 groups split according to age and in my dd group there were 15 children, 14 girls and 1 boy. There were more boys in the older groups. The day was split into 3, ballet, contemporary and jazz. My dd had only ever done ballet before but she coped well and enjoyed learning new techniques. In fact she now wants to start jazz along with the ballet. The facilities were great, sprung floor, air conditioning, theatre, shop, a piano! My dd has never experienced any of these at her small dance school so she was very impressed. She was given lots of corrections in a supportive, nurturing way. The presentation at the end of the week was very impressive given the time they had and i really enjoyed watching all the students. Overall my dd had a fantastic week, made lots of new friends and didn't want the week to end. The cost was £175 Mon to Fri 10am to 4pm x
