  1. Hi ArucariaBallerina. My DD auditioned on 11th in Bath and no email yet, talk about stressfull it's bad enough waiting 1 week let alone 2 weeks. I think the last auditions are this week so should start hearing in the next day or two - hopefully. Good luck to all who are waiting. Xx

  2. Dear all, as I have said before... You cannot second guess. There is no perfect body they are looking for esp for JAs as they grow and change so much. It is all on potential at that age - and we can all usually pick out 1 lovely dancer out of a group. However when you get to the final auditions and you have got the best of the best auditioning....personally i think it is on luck. White Lodge can only take 12 girls/12 boys and if they have 15 girls they want to take, then 3 will be disappointed. So let DC audition but they have to know in reality the chance of getting JAS/MAs/SAS or vocational places are very limited and prepare for disappointment. Just enjoy the experience, and maybe... DC will get a positive result. Xx

  3. Princess ballerina - my DD applied for Yr 5 JAs 'just to see' and as an extra ballet lesson - she got a place and is now yr 7 MA and trying for Yr 8 vocational school. Who knows on the day what they are looking for, you cannot second guess any of it - we have tried. However you have got to be in it to win it, and the audition experience itself will be so valuable for next time - just remember it's like a Rollercoaster, it's very difficult to get off once it's started. Yet we all do it year after year. As for height and med condition, I agree with Sarahw- if parental height not mentioned leave it off, don't give them anything else to think about. Good luck xx

  4. Allnewtome don't give up, maybe look to increase high level ballet, easter intensive/summer schools/Christmas workshops. Associates? There is so much out there. She may already be doing these if so keep going. Realistically there may not be any places anyway, but the experience of audition itself is invaluable experience for next time. Xx

  5. Last year I went out when letter arrived so I couldn't open it. My husband opened it, resealed it and phoned me. I texted a frI end which my youngest dd saw a couple of months later and told DD - was all very funny after the event hence why I have had instructions this time....

  6. I don't think that's the case. I hope not as my daughter couldn't make the course this year due to a pre-booked holiday!

Flowerpot, the CG course refers to a course that JAs around the country are invited to at Covent Garden in each year that they are JAs. It is lovely for them, but last October it wasn't even a dance course in October, it was an invitation to watch a pre-general rehearsal at the royal opera house. There was also a dance day in Feb but that was after results were out for SS so I can't see how the courses at CG had any impact, for year 5 at least. When I thanked my daughters JA teacher for any input she may have had on my dd getting a year 5 place at WLSS last year, she told me that they aren't consulted and they work purely off photos and the application form to determine potential xx

Last Oct CG days was for Yr6 associates and consisted of a Nutcracker workshop day and the following day was an audition insight day. DD really enjoyed both days. The audition insight day consisted of a normal audition class and followed by a brief talk and questions by Christopher Powney. Xx

  7. So the finance dept are very poor at communicating in my experience. So far I have had to resubmit the application form. They haven't replied to emails and tried for 2 weeks to get hold of them by phone and left voicemails to return my calls. Eventually I got through to finance and there was a question I hadn't answered - which was because it didn't apply as my daughter wasn't over 14 yrs old. They just hadnt bothered getting back to me to confirm details. Luckily i had finally got hold of them, as i dont think they would have got nack to me. I was told they were making decisions end of last week. So we should be hearing this week hopefully.

  8. We have Yr 8 auditions in Jan for Elmhurst and RBS. As much as DD wants voc school, she is settled and doing well at local school and I do wonder about the academic side of voc schools for the gifted and talented academic child - any comments appreciated. However, realistically there are very few places for yr8/9 but the audition experience is invaluable ( DD made it to finals last year but had flu). DD has been working really hard this year from the feedback comments. SO as much as you try to take the pressure off .. the whole process just invokes the stress.

  9. My DD will be auditioning for Yr 8. Unsuccessful at finaL audition for Yr 7 place ( came down with flu the day before audition). Not sure how she managed to audition as dh couldn't even get out of bed the following week when he had her flu. Fingers crossed for Yr8.

  10. I thought exactly the same Loulabelle! Mind you, by the time she could audition they'll probably be back to looking for littleies!!

Generally the younger population are taller than they have ever been, it is highly likely that companies will look for taller dancers rather than littleies as theseen will be in a minority group and the companies will need uniformity. However saying that, it will also depend on the height of the male dancers. My DD is 5'6" at age 11 and want her to stop growing as I believe she will be disadvantaged if she doesn't.

  11. We have also had email about Totnes audition. I would imagine London emails will go out in the next batch either tomorrow or Tuesday, as London are the last auditions and the only ones after Totnes.
