  1. If anyone is interested please take a look at my Facebook page ‘Simply Tutu Lovely’ for wrap ballet skirts . I have some readymade or make to order . I have made quite a few for the Ballet West pupils .

  2. Kat09, luckily I have my head screwed on the right way and won't be doing that .

I know all about degree courses and student finance as have two at uni already .

Dd may or may not have auditioned for one or half a dozen places covering degrees , HND's and level 6 diplomas but my original post was ' has anyone had experience of trying to raise funding independently' and a couple of people have said they have heard people have tried but it's no way near the amount required so I think that answers my original question.

Thankyou for all your replies and suggestions though .

  3. Thankyou for your all your replies . I was hoping there maybe a parent out there who had actually had the same scenario who may say either 'yes' it is possible to get private funding or a case of ' I tried 'but it didn't happen for one reason of another .

As parents , we both work , earn a decent living and have two children at uni who we support already but 30k plus a year for fees is not achievable for dc no3 .

  4. 2dancersmum , I rang the school as soon as we got the offer and the only person who can give me a list they use is away on leave until the Friday 17th and forms need to be by tues 21st .

Lisa O'Brien , unfortunately it's 6th form so you can only audition once .

As a parent you feel so badly for your child knowing how much they want this and how hard they have trained for it then you can't help them at this last hurdle .

  5. Has anyone had the experience of trying to raise funding independently ? My dd has been given a place on a 6th form dance course but very sadly no funding and without help she cannot except the offer .

I have already contacted my local education authority but because we are 'choosing'to send her to an independent school they cannot help financially . I have written to approx 16 or more Charitable Trusts associated with the performing arts but a lot support clubs and not individuals .

Unfortunately I am on a time limit as registration forms and a large deposit need to be completed very soon and to be honest if I cannot get the funding in time the deposit is needed elsewhere .

  6. I am selling my daughters tutu that we had made for her by a professional seamstress as she is now just too tall for the length of net .

It is duck egg blue silk dupion with 10 layers of italian net (tagged & hooped). The bodice is 10 paneled , boned & lined . It has hook & eye rear fastening with extra material for adjusting the width. The pants are pale blue cotton. It is embellished with ivory corded beaded lace detail to the bodice and around the skirt.

The top layer of net is 13 inches long so would suit a dancer upto approx 5ft 5 inches tall (my daughter is now 5ft 7 inches). The measurements are approx at most (as it can be taken in by moving hook & eye)

    Bust 34 inches

    Waist 26 Inches

    Hips 34 inches

Centre bodice from bottom of V to yop layer of net 11 inches.

My daughter first measured a good 3 inches less than these when it was made and we had the fastenings moved last year as she had grown.

It is in excellent condition and I am looking for around £175 (cost £325) to go towards a new one. I have listed it on ebay under ' Classical Ballet Tutu' so please take a look or message me if you have any questions.

  7. I have for sale 3 handmade stretch velvet pancake tutu's for sale that I have recently made as I enjoy doing it.

1 is forest green (lined front) with ivory net . approx ladies size 8-10

All are made of stretch paneled velvet with ivory beaded corded lace detail to bodice & nude elastic straps.

They are listed on ebay under ' Classical Ballet Tutu ' starting at £50 -£55

  8. My daughter has been the last 2 years running and is attending again this year. She is 14 & loves it . They do all different dance classes , not just ballet. Last year she met a girl who is at WL who also thoroughly enjoyed it. They are really friendly there and make them feel very much at home . Students from abroad attend as well . I wouldn't worry that she does RAD.
