Also new to the forum. My DD has been offered places on both CAT and associate programme. For those with children already on the CAT am I right in thinking they can still dance with their local dance schools?

    Hi

My daughter is on the CAT programme level one and still dances at her dance school, as they get older though the hours become more intense , my eldest daughter is also on the scheme and only does a couple of hours now with her local dance school .

Hi all - newbie here! Just had much unexpected offer for CAT and now trying to process what's involved! Would be great to hear from anyone who's been through it and survived it as a family!!  DD 10 -she's absolutely delighted and is really up for the commitment, but I think a bit shellshocked

    Hi

I have two children on the CAT scheme , one who is 10 , it’s hard as they are different ages and I have other children as well! Expect lots of sitting in the car park and hanging around but it’s worth it, it’s a fantastic scheme!
Feel free to inbox me if you want anymore questions answered 🙂

  3. Hi, I have two daughters on the CAT scheme, a young one and an older one, both love it. Pre Covid it’s a lot of hours in Leeds , my youngest at the moment is there one night a week and a couple of hours on a Saturday, it’s a shame they aren’t getting the full experience at the moment but hopefully that will change soon .

Hi everyone. Just found this last night.

My daughter has been offered a place on the JA and is on the Reserve list for the CAT. She was delighted with the results but is obviously keen to gain a place on CAT, especially as her best friend has been offered a place on CAT (they do all their ballet things together and we would have been sharing lifts between us but can’t if they are on different courses so might make them less accessible).

Was wondering if anyone had any experience with being on the reserve for CAT - you’d naturally assume that all who are offered a place typically take the place but is that necessarily true?

    Thanks.

I would say not all take the places, some have offers from elsewhere so it’s weighing up options like the commitment needed,  also some have finals for other places so may drop out of CAT to take other places up. I would always say don’t give up hope! Some may also have had offers from associates and CAT and will maybe pick associates as it’s not as big a commitment .

  5. My girls have a studio that hubby built in the garden ( he’s a builder!) and we ordered mirrors from our local window company, so not dance mirrors as such but full length mirrors all the same, we have laminated floor , and husband made the barres using a standard wooden stair handrail . Hope that helps !

  6. My daughter is older so is there Monday, Wednesday , Thursday and Saturday. I’m led to believe the level ones would be Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, roughly 4.45-7.45 week nights and Saturdays my DD does 10.45-6 . They also have to attend school holidays , and they actually start in the summer holidays not in September! It’s definitely long hours and a huge commitment as my daughter left her dance school to concentrate on CAT but she absolutely loves every minute of it !

  7. Hi

My daughter said it was just a ballet class , she really enjoyed it, for her final audition she had to join in with the girls who were already on the CAT scheme, so just did one of their typical classes. My daughter is older though so think it’s a bit different , my youngest is auditioning Sunday and I have told her to just enjoy herself! See you there !

Thanks so much @HowMuch! and everyone else.

I am planning on contacting them myself, but in the meantime, can anyone tell me how much (apart from a lot!) of a commitment it is. What does the timetable look like? Evenings after school (how many), weekend days and holidays? Just so I have an idea if that’s ok.

DD has her usual ballet and other dance classes, as well as musical theatre and 2 x associate programmes, which I would anticipate this would replace (almost all of the above), In the unlikely event she was successful. An idea of how many hours/days would be super helpful!

    Thank you so much.

My daughter is 13, she goes three nights a week and a Saturday. Three weeks in the summer holidays, half term in October was a day ( I think) and feb half term is three days, after that I’m not sure! My daughter gave everything else up at her local school apart from workshops as  on her two nights off she needed to do homework and rest! Hope that helps x

The earliest they can apply is Yr5 to start when they’re in yr6. No expected/minimum grade as they’re looking for potential but from the look of the girls today most were grade 3 and above. It feels very different to their associates where they’re looking for strength and ability. Last year DD got to finals for associates but was advised to reapply when stronger, she wasn’t old enough for CAT then so we’re hoping for success this year. DD is hoping for CAT!

My youngest wanted to go but we had a show, my eldest joined the CAT scheme in September and loves it, the commitment is huge though. My youngest would love to join the scheme and wants to audition this time round now she’s old enough !
