  1. Oh bless you princessandthefrog but I promise I didn't see anyone fall so you must have covered that OK

Dd was 110 bit of a shorter on the end of a line in the juniors :)

    Were you in seniors? X

Yeah I was in the seniors, I didn't fall to the ground just fell out of the adage and pirouettes and stumbled a fair bit sideways. I probably was noticed because I was in the front row at the centre because I was no. 6... Lol. I still got in though so I am really happy! :D

P&F must be "the tall one" according to my DDs! (25 & 26)

I was probably taller looking compared to the people next to me as they were quite young but I'm one of the shorter ones in my class and my friends always tease me! :)

  2. I was at the stevenage audition too! Well done to you dd annaliesay! It was really funny because I fell over in the adage and the pirouettes ! Still had a fun time! The boy goes to my dance school and I never saw him dance ballet before. What number was your dd annaliesay?

  3. Random question but if you choreographed a dance how would you get a ballet company to perform it such as the Bolshoi or Royal Ballet? Would you have to have danced with the company or work your way up or choreograph for smaller companies first (but how would you get them to perform it though)or get a degree? This remains a mystery to me and I have know clue how choreographers have their work performed. Sorry for my little rambled but I have wondered about this for ages.

  4. I do 1hr 15 mins of classical ISTD and I started vaganova method since October which I do 2 and a half hours a week. When I was 4/5 the dance school was sold and the style changed from cechetti. I think they do use different muscles because when I went to have a pair of point shoes fitted, the lady warned me that I might ache changing styles when on point and after starting my first point class with the Russian ballet school on Monday my legs have been aching so much! It got even worse after Tuesday when I did my normal point class, it was crazy! It's Wednesday now and my legs are still aching but I am not moaning because I thoroughly enjoyed it and thankful I get to experience all these styles! :)

  5. How about salmon fillet, stir fry vegetables and cottage cheese but make sure you heat the pan until it's very hot so you only have to put a tiny bit of oil for the vegetables. It only takes a few minutes to cook and it's even quicker when you have a bag of pre cut veggies so it's good after a long day. You have a spoonful of cottage cheese so it isn't dry and you can always add extras such as a boiled egg etc. I cook the salmon separately by if it has the skin, part frying it then putting it in the microwave for 3 mins but you can always peel the skin off if you don't want to eat it. I do not know if this is the healthiest and I am not an expert but I know it's better than a takeaway pizza or McDonalds, or at least I think! Hope it helps :)

  6. Oh, and make sure you have a rehearsal in the same room as the exam, often in my exam rehearsals I'm terrible as I am getting used to everything as it is a new setting etc. and I do sometimes freeze or don't do as well as I could've done. Sorry, lots of things are flooding to my memory!

  7. This is a random fact that I've just heard of but apparently eating a banana calms your nerves so just before an audition/ exam, eat a banana. Don't know if this is true or not but I also agree with FullContretemps, I find it easier to do an exam because it's likely you'll never see the examiner again rather than a show which I personally find more stressful

  8. Hey I have HFA!!! The only thing I can say is that I never look the examiner in the eye. For me I look just above and in their direction - so a point in the wall. You would generally be in a big hall or something similar and the examiner would mainly be writing and only watching you when you dance. The only bad experiences I have had is when I was younger I was awful because I had such bad motor skills, if it wasn't for ballet my motor skills would still be really bad and in my last graded exam in one of my last dance I had a weird shaking thing which docked me two points off an extinction!! I was so annoyed but you have to look back and laugh! Don't worry about that happening because everyone is different just remember "So you've met one person with autism? Well you've met ONE person with autism"???? :) That is all I can comment on, hope it helps???? :)

  9. I realise there's probably already a thread similar to this one but I was just wondering which summer intensives people are applying/have applied for this year? I want to do one but not sure which ones are still open for applications etc!

Last year I did one at Hot House Dance which was brilliant so I totally recommend that one for anyone near the Hertfordshire area - we covered all kinds of styles/genres etc.

    Any advice/recommendations please??

I did that too last year!!! It is a small world!

  10. Are you talking about demi-pointe or full pointe?  There is a difference between doing pirouettes on pointe and on demi-pointe.  I teach pirouettes on pointe with more of a releve action tham on demi-pointe.  However, in either case, if you want to do more than one, you need to turn quicker, coordinating your head and arms with the push off action from the preparation.  Landing is always a problem.  You need to pull up and slightly slow down as you get to the end of the turn.  Try closing with a very slight "spring" into 5th - it may help.

I'm talking about Demi pointe. Thank u for all the tips everyone! I laughed at your comment cotes du rhone !
  11. Can anyone share any tips on how to turn more than once in a pirouette. My teachers get me to be on a high releve with a snatch but I can't do more than one. If I do, then I can't close it properly back into position, I just fall out. Thank you for reading this and for any suggestions. ????

  12. I was watching a documentary on YouTube yesterday and the mum in it was desperate for her daughter to become a ballerina even before she was born and then once she was born she had her in the splits by the age of one month (or the cross splits as she said)!!! So it goes to show that in some countries they do push them into the splits!! ]

I did know that they would push people into splits but it was the bit about breaking their legs and snapping them into place that I didn't believe. Please don't tell me they snap people's legs!

  13. Here is what I know:

A fact I know is that it has been tested that male ballet dancers are stronger than rugby players.

Also once I told a teacher ( not a dance teacher) about an upcoming audition. The teacher asked me what do they look for and I said about the 'right' body proportions etc. but the teacher just thought about it as being not overweight and being skinny then you qualify.

Someone asked me 'why would you want to do ballet if you know you are going to wreck your feet and injure yourself?' However I don't believe this unless someone proves this. Also people assume that when you go en pointe that you are just wrecking your feet, but I thought it only gave you problems if you were under 10 years old because the things that are in between and cushion your bones aren't fully developed (sorry I don't know how to spell it).

A stupid rumor one of my non - dancing friends said that somewhere in Russia, they shove you down into the splits so it ends up snapping something in your legs ( she said a version of that again but for gymnastics in China ) .

In my local dance school when I was younger, all my (ex) friends stopped because they claimed that it was too girly, not cool, only girly girls do ballet, you would be silly if you carried on ballet etc. however looking back now, I think they just made an excuse for quitting because it was when the ballet classes started to get harder!

Sorry for my rant and me jumping form topic to topic.☺

  14. I auditioned on the 18th but at 1.15pm for the Mid Associates. Reading previous posts, the panel did constantly talk really loudly but I couldn't hear what they were saying as I was the other side of the room and the music was really loud. I remember us having to do jumps from the corner and me getting annoyed because they didn't look at me however I felt better when I saw them looking at me on the other side. The only time I heard them laugh was when they said they were about to say they couldn't see no 50 something but she wasn't there. And with the groupings on the barre, the girl next to me was a lot taller then me and she looked a lot older however she was AMAZING! I didn't see anybody else because I was so stressed! If you do know no 60 at the Sunday 18th audition she was brilliant! I'm sure everyone else was amazing too it's just that no 60 was the only one I saw because we were next to each other at the bar. Sorry for being a bore and bringing up old posts on this thread. Good luck with the results and remember the Royal Ballet School isn't the only way to become a ballet dancer!
