  1. I went the the audition in Leeds last weekend and then dance day before especially was so positive I loved it! one of my ( Scottish ) friends has finals from the audition in October

  2. I believe there are more opportunities in glasgow (scottish ballet and royal conservatoire) but Ballet West run associates in both glasgow and Edinburgh. DanceBase (edinburgh) also do good workshops with professionally companies, sometimes scottish ballet or birmingham royal ballet. Sorry this isn't much use in terms of normal weekly schools but associates courses are good too

  3. Congrats to all graduates! Interestingly I've just been at a days workshop with the Artistic Director for the Croatian National Ballet Company and he said he'd auditioned over 500 people for a few jobs!

  4. I've just turned 15 and am also nervous but really looking forward to it. I also don't know anyone else going but I'm excited to meet new people there, hope your DD's excited too. I'm not particularly experienced (just done inter foundation and g6 studying intermediate) but they should be able to cater to all ability so :)

  5. I took about a year on 2 hours a week ( 1 un-set class ) to do my Grade 3 but I've recently done my Grade 6 in 5 months also on 1 hour of that syllabus class and still got a high distinction but I take other classes as well. I agree that exams aren't always the best option as it is a limited range of movement, I've learned a lot of moves out with the set classes but (I don't know if it's already been said but) once you are at the higher levels it is worth taking the exams to get UCAS points in Britain anyway because if you get high marks, it is worth almost the same as an A in A-Levels!

  6. My friend (14) has gained a place at RCS summer school. She is tall but thin, beautiful feet and long arms and legs and both of us are taking our Inter Foundation this March with a few years but not much experience en pointe. I didn't apply because my birthday is before it and so I fall into the 15-18 category and they ask for advanced one but you DD seems good and I've heard really great things about RCS so I'd go for it, she's almost guaranteed a place!

  7. Hello,

As a 14 year old going to pineapple I was so excited and so I phoned up asking what level I would be ( doing g6 and inter f) and they told me advanced! Since intermediate was before I though ill go to that first and see if I think I could do advanced. No way was the answer! The steps individually weren't too hard but everybody else there went every week s they had already learnt the excersises (not syllabus though). DONT LET THIS DISCOURAGE YOU! The teacher (denzil) was lovely, very helpful and gave corrections in such a positive way! Receptionist aslo lovely (my mums new best friend!)

    Hope this helped

  8. At the moment I only do 1hr of inter foundation, plus 1 hour of grade 6, 1 hour (soon to be 4) of intermediate, 2 hours of teaching, an hour of stretch and 1hr of grade 6 modern plus 1.5 hours of unset contemporary. So while I don't so that much inter foundation my technique is being strengthened by the other classes but like you said Dance*is*life I'm getting a bit muddled!

  9. Thank you spannerandpony, I am in a flexibility class and we sort of have a set warmup which I do 3-5 times a week to stretch. Just hoping that I get onto a summer course in the first place as I don't know wether to book ones (without audition photos) and then cancel if I get a better offer although I know I shouldn't do that as its unprofessional?!

  10. My dance teacher has told me that the best ones are RBS, enbs (recommended by her sister), central, elmhurst and YBSS but will also apply to any others that have been suggested on here!

Any comments on flexibility of girls at these summer school??? I am just beginning to be able to do more flexible things (oversplkt on left, just splits on right and about 1/2 a foot off box)
