  1. That's so true! Even though.......who will have the courage to refuse such a coveted place if offered???? You are right, we must enjoy the experience and don't worry about it till the results are out. Whatever they are, I am sure we'll have something to regret (and something to be happy for!)

  2. Hy everyone! I have been a silent reader for a while....I needed to put a bit of a distance fromĀ  ballet school world as I was getting too much involved and risking not to be objective anymore in helping my DD. Finally, after a very suffered period of doubts, we made up our mind and decided to audition for RBS full time training. The decision was not so easy as we live in Italy and my DD is only 11 years old (turning 12 at the end of december).....Maybe, the fact that she is applying for Y8 entry, helped me to fill the application form without thinking to the enormous pain for her missing, as I know that the chance to entry at Y8 are very slim if not impossible!! (Well....maybe that's what my heart secretely wishes...). But, since the application form was sent (only yesterday, to underline my esitation)....a real terror didn't allow me to sleep....what if she is offered a place? Many parents woud be more than happy and so should I.....I am telling myself: we are just going there for the experience, she will never get a place, especially in Y8, we are just preparing the field for future audition at upper school, she is not so talented to aspire to RBS......

Am I so egoist? Did I make a mistake to apply if I actually don't want to let her go? You may say I'm silly not to have thought all this before, but I did.....You may say not to worry before the audition results are out, as maybe I will not have anything to worry about......but still...what if?

  3. Hy Piccolo my DD is in the same situation: 2 years and 2 waiting lists for nothing! In addition, we are from Italy, that means that a last minute call would have been a very expensive solution ( higher flight fares, hotel accomodatiion rates...). For the past two years we couldn't plan any family vacation before june....To be honest I do not know what to do this year. At least, the earlier closing date means that we can have results earlier: if, as they said, results will be out in january, we could apply and in case of a no or waiting list again, we still have time to plan other summer schools and/or family holiday!

  4. Invisiblecircus, I didn't want to say they "are not good enough" to be considered in an international scenery, I simply noticed that they are not considered from other countries when talking about the best companies/schools of the world. It can be due to many different reasons, but it's a fact. The Accademia alla scala di Milano is an excellent school, but it was not a possible choice for us for the reason I wrote in my first post. As for Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, I confirm what I wrote: many talented students go away to finish their training, as they understand they could have better training/job opportunities elsewhere. There are surely some very good dancers in the company, but their career' s opportunities are limited to the very few productions of the theatre.

Re graded ballet exams on the British System....I hope one of our experienced friends of the forum can help you (and me!) answering your questions :)

  5. Many congratulations to your DD Pastel! It seems to be quite a real possibility to be offered a place from waiting list, as many young dancers accepted at Central have more than one option, so fingers crossed for her! My DD has been offered a place on selected waiting list for white lodge summer school, but I don't think she will have any chance to get in, as I heard there are many children on that list.....I am sure this will not be the case for your DD. Good luck with your house searching!

  6. Selected waiting list also for us......a bit disappointed as we were in the same position last year but nothing happened after that....does anyone know how that works? Are there rankings? Are we allowed to know our position or at least how many children are on the selected waiting list? Congratulations to all the yes's and good luck to all the others waiting!

  7. Thank you afab! My DD got cambridge KET certificate this year: I don't know if it is enough for her to deal with the language barrier but the funny thing is that she isn't scared at all about it! She is brave enough to push herself into dialogue with everyone, even making mistakes,......she juust doesn't feel shy, she tries and....doesn't care! This attitude, so different from mine, maybe can help her!

  8. Congratulations to your DD kat09! I gave a look to her FB page and she looks wonderful! She must be over the moon, and even if I don't know the journey she did to arrive till here, she surely had to work hard.....now the choice...which school of the two is she going to choose?
