As your DS has Spanish residency would the Conservatoire in Madrid be an option ? x https://rcpdmariemma.com/

Unfortunately I've had to resell 2 tickets for the Tuesday matinee via the LW theatre website 60 GBP each. Grand circle centre, row B, seats 29 and 30. Just thought I'd mention in case anyone is looking for tickets.

Just wondering what European schools you have in mind as this sounds interesting - we will never be able to afford these fees even with bursaries - we would move country for the right school?
I now this post is a few years old but here's hoping!
The Prix de Lausanne list of Partner Schools is a good start. https://www.prixdelausanne.org/community/partners/#tab3

I didn't want to open up a new thread and thought this heading is suitable for my question.
We have been just told that my DD's school is not opening in September until the government get the covid situation under some sort of control. Borders are shut for my DD to fly back and we do not know when the school opens. She is in her final 3rd year and I just know that home classes are not enough for her. She has been doing well for all those weeks in my living room i.e classes and some body conditioning but i can not see this going on beyond September.
She is in London at the moment and I am looking for ideas where I could sign her up to do some sort of normal "vocational" level training? Most schools I researched are only up to 16 years of age.
I would look at Pineapple (Emma Northmore or another Adv level teacher) if I were you. I'm sure that there are other options though. Good luck ! X

Thank you for posting this link, I enjoyed watching this.
You're welcome Granbatty ! It's a bit of a long watch, but I found it candid and interesting.

This documentary is available to watch until the 20th June. It follows students at the Lisbon Conservatoire, from first auditions for the school until the end of year performance.

Oh, I don't know. I seem to remember a (rather younger) Steven McRae maybe a decade ago saying to camera something to the effect that if he didn't make it to principal within a few years he wouldn't be hanging around. I think it was in the documentary focusing on the Royal Ballet School.
I remember this too (I think it was more than a decade ago). Also wasn't Laura Morera featured ? IIRC she was a First Artist at the time - I may be wrong.

One of the highlights of the Covid 19 Intermission for me thus far has been finding this clip of Bujones (when still a student at SAB - which was when I first saw him) rehearsing the Swan Lake PDT with - are you ready - Balanchine (a guest) and Danilova (on the SAB staff). Ah, the memories that come flooding back through the mists of time ... The clip is here .... replete with all that 70's hair!!
In the same collection you can find Haydee and Cragen (my first Romeo and Juliet - and still, for me, the finest) ... dancing Cranko's Legende here.
There a more delights to be discovered therein.
(I know, I know ... I'm OLD ... ) ...
Wonderful. Thank you Bruce !

Aimlessly scrolling through youtube yesterday I came across this documentary 'Winner takes it All' about the Russian rhythmic gymnasts. I wasn't able to watch until the end (internet problems) and haven't managed to finish watching it yet today. But from what I saw I found it interesting, eye opening and not without some significance to the demands of classical ballet training. Over the last couple of decades some have voiced the concern that ballet is turning into gymnastics. Apparently the concern is reciprocal ! Hope that this link works. x

This is always a stressful time of year for parents and young people, and I think it is even worse this year because of everything else that is going on. But some basic truths remain, though they can be very hard to see when you are right in the thick of things.
There are many roads to Rome. And many destinations that are just as lovely as Rome that you may not have even thought of yet.
Yes, it is really, really, tough when your child has their heart set on a particular school at a particular time and it doesn't come to fruition, especially when they have got so tantalisingly close, but please don't see it as their dream being over. My DD is an adult now, and I have been posting on this board, and its predecessor, since she was failing to gain a JA place in year 6 I think. In that time I have lost count of the number of DCs who have reached Rome by a different route or who have discovered that despite being absolutely certain at 11 that they wanted to go to Rome above all else, Munich is really where their heart lies.....
If your child has been offered a place at this stage, even without funding, then they clearly have potential. There will be other years to try again, and then at 16 and even 18 whole worlds of new opportunities open up. I think that both in real life and online I know of far more young people who have taken the "scenic route" to their final destination than those who have joined their preferred school in year 7 and sailed through. Youngsters develop at different rates. Those who are "not quite there" at 11 may later pass those who look like they have everything going for them at the same age. Not to mention puberty - there are always winners and losers in that particular lottery.
So taken some time to grieve for what cannot be today, and then look to tomorrow for what is still to come.
Very well said Pups_mum. I believe that this piece by Isabella Gasparini has been posted on the forum already, but it's worth sharing again. Best wishes to you all. Hold tight ! x

At around the time the Cats movie opened, two very pretty white kittens appeared in our neighbourhood. We nicknamed them Francesca and Hayward. Francesca has been keeping a low profile recently. Hayward, not so much. He has been re-named Hayward - 19 since I witnessed his, rather aggressive encounter with (our) Mummykat.

Thanks Wildflowers, thats an interesting insight but did anyone else think it sounded like it had been written by a child? Or perhaps one of the students who doesn't have English as their first language? Or perhaps I spend too long reading scientific journals! 😂
3 hours ago, Millicent said:Yes I thought it sounded as if translated from another language or written by a non-native speaker.
Very interesting though. I can't imagine it can be healthy for a child to be at school/ballet from 8am to midnight!
I found the report interesting and appreciate the time that Liz Bouttell took to write it and The Ballet Association for publishing it, for free online.

unless there is a particular reason not to show straps etc; a medium or high support sports bra ...
I agree. With a thick strapped/cap or long sleeved leotard, a sports bra ( without padding) is fine.

Can anyone tell me if the RAD syllabus music is available to download ? My original CD's have seen better days ! I've seen on their online shop that it's possible to buy video and music to download, but not just the music. Am I missing something ?

Hello Fiz. Not in Croydon, but I have friends whose tiny DC's attend Butterfly Ballet and speak very highly of the school.

Disaster!!! Steven has just injured himself in the last scene of act 2 when he’s on his own before a bloody Lescaut turns up!!
Mr O’Hare has announced a delay.
Oh no, I don't believe it, especially after putting in so much work (and with such good grace) to recover from his previous injury. I really hope that its nothing serious.
