  1. My brother coaches gymnastics and used to do ballet, your son is still young and one class a week of gymnastics won't do any harm but enhance his strength and flexibility. Keep up the ballet too and see what happens at the vocational school auditions. Good luck!

  2. Was an interesting performance, lovely to see lots of dancers from around the world dance some beautiful repertoire.

Paquita was quite brave for a summer school, especially being so technically demanding. It was also quite long, maybe they could have danced this with the professionals, but then good to give them the opportunity.

  3. I went to the official Closing and the Gala Concert on the 29th July, and the Super Gala Concert on 30th July! Was most amazing trip and yes money goes a long way in Varna! 5* hotel is around £40 a night, 3 course meal around £8 and airport transfer also £8! Triple scoop ice-cream costs about 33p!!

Direct flights from London Luton (the only direct flight to Varna) with Wizz Air were expensive, but I think Wizz Tours reduces the price, although I booked separately.

It is a very relaxed atmosphere and the dancing is probably the highest consistent standard I have ever seen! The galas did not begin until 8:30/9PM because of the heat, it was very hot during the performance at night around 26C!

    Highly recommend!

  4. Heard Sarah Compton at ROH in Conversation with Francesca Hayward and James Hay last month and was very disappointed with the quality of her questions and moreover shocked at some of the factual errors in comments.

No one can be perfect, but denying that Francesca was a Junior Associate (Francesca’s face was visually stunned), talking about them both studying at Baron’s Court, when the Upper School has been resident in Floral Street for over twelve years and even talking about repertory and instead of repertoire, were just some of the things that I really picked up on!

Perhaps a former Arts Editor in Chief, but her ballet knowledge, including the above is somewhat questionable.

  5. I did Central Associates maybe 10 years ago and loved it.

My brother did both LJB/LSB and Central, I think it depends on the teacher you have. I had some wonderful teachers at Central but my brother did not like his teacher so much and got on much better at LJB/LSB. However my sister did LJB and hated it, she did not like the discipline! I think it's personal preference, each dancer needs a teacher they can work well with and I guess you can't find out until you try.

At Central we did a range of classes, Contemporary, Rep, Pilates etc, I am not sure if LJB/LSB does this as well?

Maybe audition for both and see what happens/which one feels better...

  7. I am planning a trip to New York in May and would definitely like to see some ballet.

I can see there are some things on at the Met with ABT, but thought forum members may know a lot more than me!

    1) How easy is it to buy tickets, how do I go about this?

    2) What other companies, performances do you recommend. I love watching ballet schools and demonstrations of technique, any info about this?

    3) The ABT gala is on at the time I am going, is this impossible to get tickets for unless you are a sponsor or celebrity?

    Thanks!

  8. I did Lorien's class before, I don't remember it being that difficult he had a more teacher like approach whereas Denzil's class (also at Central) was run more like a professional class. If you like a challenge and picking up fast enchainments I would recommend Denzil's class.

    Hope this helps.
