  1. I've hesitated to get involved in the oversplits debate but can't help but feel the question has been lost in a debate about aesthetics, so I'll not give my opinion on oversplits in performance but just the facts on current training, If your dancer has professional aspirations then flexibility, strength, musicality, physique and vocabulary will all play a part, achieving the oversplit will not automatically gain you a place in a vocational school but I have seen girls at all the top senior schools here in the UK stretched like this RBS, ENB, Elmhurst, Central and RCS.

  2. They are now permitted for all graded exams, but Intermediate and above on the Vocational Graded syllabus should still be soft pointes, some teachers will stick to full sole shoes for all grades so best to check with your own teacher.

While a split sole shoe can be very comfortable the do tend to have higher vamps and therefore aren't as flattering to the dancers foot and as has been said countless times before the split sole does not give the dancer anything like the same feeling as a pointe shoe.

  3. Hi ballettaxi - Five results I think , (I'm so confused between exams auditions and performances at the minute I can hardly remember my own name), and was told I'd got it wrong last night, Mids had there parents day last Saturday as well so it could be this week!

  4. Hi All,

I have a dancer very keen to work towards both the Molly Lake award and YBDY, I have sent for details and an entry form to the address advertised in last months Dancing Times for the Molly Lake info but haven't found any info about applying for Young British Dancer of the Year.

I was wondering if anyone here has any info they could share about either competition, or could shed any light on the application process for YBDY?

  5. Non- Residential but The Kenn Burke and Friends Summer School in Glasgow held at The Dance School of Scotland is really good value, it's very low profile no website but excellent tuition and dancers kept busy 9.30 - 4.30 everyday.

Advanced Found and above £160.00 tuition 5 days dancing 21/2 hours every day with Mr Burke and if you need accomodation £100.00 for four nights with a host dancing family.

  6. Not completly academically sound, but I have had a quick look back over our results from the last few years, the girls who did the Advanced Foundation exam in 1 year followed by Advanced One 6 months - 1 year after seem to have significantly better results :o , something I had noticed until I read this question. I think I may have all the children do the it this way in future ;) , ofcourse there is the possibility that with the new syllabus it may no longer be optional.
