Dd also going to Leeds on Sunday Boodalou  - heard nothing. She will be attending the Dance Day on the Saturday - we have received all the details for this.

Thanks DDPA glad we aren't the only ones not heard yet, I guess details will come mon/Tue or I will be ringing. Good luck to your Dd, my Dd attended a dance day last year and really enjoyed it.

  2. My Dd is away at vocational school in yr11 so obviously thinking about auditioning for upper schools. Her school has arranged a time slot to take their audition photographs for the applications next weekend but the problem we have is a couple of schools don't open their applications until October so we can't see which positions are needed for the application form, does anybody know the positions are required for applying to Central and Rambert please.

  3. Dd is at Hammond lower school and knows the situation for their US. We were just wondering about how strict other schools were for their dance courses,  she wears make up for shows happily but doesn't see the point for everyday training. ☺️

Well, having watched the as ever  amazing Hammond Show yesterday,  pleased to report back DD’s black dyed pointe shoes looked fabulous!!! In fact, all those in numbers with black pointe shoes looked great from audience view  so seems whatever different mediums they all used on their shoes worked just fine!!

Oh the agony we DP’s go through trying to make sure we provide the very best things!!! The hours trawling online stores/google searching & of course Ballertcoforum posting!!!

the community on the latter provides much appreciated support & sanity checks 🤪

Thank you all & hope all have a great Summer! 🌞

I too had the emergency phone call last week and thanks to Amazon prime sent sharpies  to dd. They did the trick and as you say they all looked black on stage,  I also got a text to say the black lipstick was no longer needed!  The show was amazing and as always everyone looked fabulous,  now time for a well earned rest.

Northern Ballet School in Manchester offer the 3yr Level 6 Diploma in Professional Dance (Classical) (Jazz) with DaDa funding.

They take pupils at 16 & 18 as they offer both Diplomas. 1st yr pupils train in all genres but then select their chosen focus for the 2nd & 3rd yr. Many know from day one which course they wish to pursue but they receive guidance by the staff as they develop over the first yr to ensure they are on the right path. Which is very helpful for those that really are unsure at 15/16yrs which one to follow.

Singing/acting is incl but in a supporting role to enhance the dancing rather than Level of a ‘triple threat’ pupil as they don’t offer MT training. That’s for the other colleges like Laines/Birds/Urdang etc. 🙆‍♀️😊

This course sounds very similar to the course offered by Hammond,  am I correct in thinking that?

A level equivalent means a Level 3 Btec or Cambridge Technical or the new RSA Diploma I’m afraid not RAD/ISTD exams.

Thank you, so as Meadowblythe says its only Central, Rambert and RCS that do a Dance degree for 16 yr olds (Not heard of Dancewise).

  7. If 16 yr old DD wants to pursue a Diploma or degree down the Dance route rather than the MT route how important is it that the school offers the chance to continue her RAD exams? I've started researching various schools and some mention RAD exams and others don't but does that mean they don't offer them or just that that info isn't on the website?

    Hi Boogalou

Just to provide some additional information for your research

Level 3 (equiv to an A Level) are RAD Grade 6 and above,

                                                              RAD Inter Fou and above

                                                              LAMDA Grade 6 and above

ISTD Grade 6 and above, all genres.

There maybe other dancing examination boards that also are Level 3. Someone else on this forum may be able to help as I'm not familiar with those.

Diploma Level 6 is the Vocational equiv to a BA (Hons) Degree.   There are some Education Authorities that don't know this as well as the equiv qualifications.

    Sad but true.

Good Luck on your research. My only hint/tip would be, don't try to compare the different schools/colleges as they are all so unique in what they offer, just research each throughly. Qualification and course content, audition dates and process, graduate employment (closed auditions), accommodation, travel.

The other research I did was to look at the profiles of dancers within each company (that fits your Dd style) and see where they trained. More out of interest rather than a deciding factor.

Just on an additional note, whilst a qualification (Diploma/Degree) is important at this stage of research in reality when it comes to graduate employment most auditioning panels don't look at the Dancers profile (open auditions) and therefore have no idea what they were awarded. They are looking at the dancer themselves.

PS RBS do not offer an qualification but then just having the school on any CV opens doors.......

    Good Luck

Thank you Balletbean, so does this mean that where a degree course requires A level or equivalent then its still worth DD applying at 16 with her RAD intermediate and ISTD Modern Intermediate? I was starting to think the degree courses were only for 18 yrs+.

  9. How do we find out which schools have agents that come to their graduation shows? Dd is currently at vocational lower school and so we can't attend open days,  the only info we have is from websites and their prospectus.

Some good agents won't take dancers on unless they also sing.

How do you know if a agent is a good one or not???

  11. OK please excuse my naivety but how does it work if dc are taken on by an agent?  Looking at some destinations of upper schools I see some students have been accepted by agents rather than going on to joining a company or cruise company which also makes me wonder what other options are there after upper school?

  12. Dd looking at applying for upper schools for Sept 2019 and after looking at websites and reading through this brilliant forum I am still completely confused by the whole process but need to get my head around it all in order to help dd make a decision. We completely agree with those that say go with the "feel" of a school but I am confused about whether she should be looking at the level 6 diploma or the BA hons degree? She would have to have funding as we are an average income household but does funding include the accommodation costs or do we fund that ourselves? How did you all start the process or selecting just a few schools to apply for? Dd is dance orientated not Mt although she doesn't mind doing it all for one year then selecting the dance route. Any advice please.

  13. I have to agree with Bluebird, my dd loves Shannon and Peter and they have been so good to her but she has found that she rarely gets taught by them as it is generally a guest teacher teaching and often all ages in together. She won't be accepting her place for next year.

We found no time set aside for photos or filming in year 11, voc school not interested in giving advice or support

This worries me a little, dd currently in Yr10 and starting to think of where to audition for upper schools, She is currently at vocational school and I was kind of relying on the school/teachers in helping her decide what's best for her?
