  2. The information that I posted is what was sent for subscribers on November 4th. Subscribers can book their seats in advance and they will send in the requests due November 30th. The general booking will be on a later date.

As Yumiko has pointed out, there are possibilities of change in cast as the performances are 7 months ahead. But the information posted is from the promoter NBS’s current ticket order sheet.

Or the RB dancers have different information regarding casting?

(apologies for misspelling Marianela Nunez’s name)

  3. It is not on the promotor's website yet but the casting was sent to subscribers.

I also know of (non Russian) dancers from big name companies who have left Russia and now cannot find a contract anywhere.

There was a research in Japan that counted there were 69 Japanese dancers in Russian state ballet companies before the invasion, and currently 48 of them are staying in Russia. (as of September 2022).

it is very difficult to make a living as a ballet dancer in Japan (almost no company offer regular salaries and social security). I know only 3 dancers that returned from Russia that have successfully joined Japanese companies. One is Koya Okawa who was a gold medalist at Moscow Competition and soloist at Novosibirsk who joined Asami Maki Ballet and another is Miho Naotsuka, former soloist at Stanislavsky and Mikhailovsky, she joined the National Ballet of Japan but as a corps de ballet dancer.

Also there are several Japanese dancers who have being dancing at Ukrainian companies such as the National Ballet of Ukraine, but none were successful in joining companies in Japan.

and of course there are more Japanese students who were studying in Russian ballet academies.

I believe the gala is not available to marquee tv subscribers, only as a one-off stream purchase at this link …

    https://www.marquee.tv/videos/nureyev-legend-and-legacy

does this work for you?   If not, we should ask the gala team.

The stream of the Dance for Ukraine gala in March 2022, by Ivan Putrov & Alina Cojocaru, was sold the same way.

Unfortunately the link shows 404 here.

For the Dance for Ukraine, it was possible for us to purchase and watch the stream. Maybe a geoblock is happening for this Nureyev Gala.

Does anyone know if the Mayerling Insight next Thurs 15 Sept is going to be streamed?

Insights are usually marked as "Camera Filming" but I don't see it this time. With the reported new streaming service and the website redesign I'm not sure if they aren't streaming it or it's just not listed (Mayerling opening night which is being broadcast to the cinema isn't marked  either)

    Thanks

    Yes.

  7. Fabula Collective is a project by the two ex-McGregor dancers James Pett and Travis Clausen-Knight. Last year they toured to Japan (the creative director Yukiko Tsukamoto is a theatre designer from Japan) and they successfully performed a triple bill called Human, especially Lady Macbeth choreographed by Christopher Marney and danced by Cira Robinson was stunning.   I wish I could travel to London to see the new performance.

Thanks Capybara, I wonder if it’s the same photo and post  I spotted today on Ratmansky’s Fb page that said “thank you for teaching and coaching”....hoping that both can still be persuaded to have Malakhov in an acting role (Wilfred? Duke of Courland? Leader of the hunt?) if he’s no longer dancing. I last saw him dancing in the Le Parc pas de deux in 2011 but I don’t know if he’s retired from dancing or not.

The National Ballet School of Ukraine was expected to tour Japan in 2020, sadly that was cancelled because of Co-vid but it was Malakhov's choreography and he was supposed to appear as Coppelius.

I don’t think he has completely retired of dancing as he gives free online classes every day on his instagram. So we can have a little hope!

  9. As I have mentioned on another thread, the National Ballet of Ukraine is currently touring Japan with 26 dancers. Here is another news documentary with some stage footage. I did see one performance in Tokyo, and although they could not perform works with Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev, they danced some experts from Le Corsaire, La Bayadere, La Sylphide and Gopak. Despite the serous situations they are facing, they gave superb performances. Especially 17 year old Katherina Mykluha ( who is currently a member of Dutch National Ballet Junior Company) and principal Nikita Skholkov were memorable.

Documentary on Mykluha (hope this is not geo-blocked)

  10. The Royal Ballet Gala has successfully opened on 13th and everyone could enter the country and perform, giving excellent superb performances. I will report a Ilttle later as I have been awfully busy now.

Meanwhile, William Bracewell had a talk session before the screening of Swan Lake in a cinema in Tokyo, and I had the honor of speaking with him. There is a short video of his talk session regarding Swan Lake, the joy of being promoted principal and his comments on his colleagues are so warm and lovely.
