Opes has a few places left I believe.

I can't help feeling some of the comments are a bit harsh. Rightly or wrongly, there are reasons for the decisions made about 'boarders only' events and these were mentioned at audition.

Maybe Toe Savers Skinnydips would be worth a try. They are very thin seamless silicone and can be cut to preferred size.

My dd started vocational school in year 9 and prior to that she was doing about 5-6 hours of ballet per week, which included a non-syllabus class. She also attended an excellent monthly associate class. Although she had to work very hard, she was by no means behind when she started vocational school and I think that was largely due to the non-syllabus classes that gave her a much broader experience than her RAD classes and also a much wider ballet vocabulary. I do think to some extent it should be quality rather than quantity at that age.

My dd is in y10 at Hammond and I can assure you there is very definitely a classical focus.

Thank you for clarifying Dancing Days. It makes sense now.

I'm a little confused (doesn't take much) by the contracts sent out. Are all the ballets that are to be performed listed and the casting just for those ticked?
-
My dd too, but no further details as we haven't received the letter yet, so I emailed to ask.

which is really odd as there are workshops in April!Lilac. I have checked the letter and it definitely says "we hope to mail out the results towards the end of April" quite wait then ...mind you I can only begin to imagine how complex it is

I only knew because I popped into the shop during half term. Was told by the owner that emails would be sent out.

Becky will also be selling the academic uniform.

I feel exactly the same. I think if anything it's got harder - not for her, for me. I sometimes feels like I know her a little bit less every time she's away, but of course she's just growing up. She reassured me that I would have her back for 3 weeks soon, but I won't because she will be dancing for some of that time and when she's not, I think she wants to be so I won't have her whole heartedly!

I really don't think you have to worry too much at this stage. My dd only started ballet on her 9th birthday and only had one 45 minute lesson per week until she was 10, when she added a non syllabus class. It was only after attending summer school at 11 and being told she had a lot of potential that we upped her ballet hours. She started vocational school at the beginning of year 9 before which she was having about 5 hours a week of ballet at the very most. I would say it probably took her a term to catch up with her peers. I'm A firm believer that it's quality, rather than quantity at a very early age.

I think everybody would have to acknowledge that vocational students are going to have an advantage over non-vocational students when it comes to upper school auditions.
Not necessarily, it depends on the quality of training dc have access to. some are lucky enough to have high quality training without leaving home. DC who attend residential dance schools also have academic pressure and have to contend with home sickness etc. I absolutely don't think you can make a general judgement; every child is different and so are their experiences, whether they train locally or away from home.

DD did Shawbrook when she was 10 and loved it! Last year we did an intensive in Oregon near my parents house in the USA during our visit. We are looking to combine a holiday in UK (or France if a miracle occurred) and a summer school and were looking at all options!
We are looking at Yorkshire as well but although she will do her RAD Grade 5 exam in June she only has done Grade 3 at moment (albeit a high distinction) and they ask for Grade 4 or above and she has skipped the Grade 4 level... We will send in a form and a video link and photos but will have to see if she gains a place. There are so many program's available it really is wonderful!

Sorry these are no longer available.

My dd too.

I know at least 6 children who only have to attend casting
-
Apparently those that have been a part of nyb for the last few years don't have to audition for prelims, only casting. I know one in class 3 was aged 14.

My dd has waist length, thick curly hair. It doesn't seem to affect her posture when up in a bun, but I doubt it would work in a roll. Last year when she had to have it loose for a solo part in the end of year production, one of her teachers remarked that it wasn't stage hair!
