  1. Many congratulations to your son on gaining such a prestigious role!  I have some lovely photos of him and my daughter from when they partnered each other during a summer school.  He was an incredibly hard worker and I've no doubt he'll be successful wherever life takes him.

My DD trained at the Hammond - there was no requirement there to wear full makeup every day - just for open days, assessments and then obviously performance level make up for performances.  Some students would wear light make up - foundation, mascara daily- personal preference. I have a feeling that the item most worn was the red lipstick - but even then more for the MT strand than the dance course

My dd currently trains at the Hammond on the dance course and rarely wears full makeup day to day.  I would definitely agree it’s personal preference although of course they are expected to be well presented.

  3. The absolutely wonderful thing about this forum is that people are now speaking out and this will help others.  I think there is still a massive stigma regarding mental health problems and I think that brave posts such as this will hopefully help others to accept that such problems exist, are by no means rare and can happen to any one of our children.  Thank you to both you and your daughter for your courage.

  4. I phoned as I hadn't received an order confirmation but I had got an email advising payment had been authorised.  The sales lady confirmed my order and said there was some glitch in the system preventing customers receiving confirmation of their orders.

Absolutely agree. The students seem to be viewed as a commodity rather than actual people. I imagine there are some who are identified as being outstanding talents who will be considered worthy of more support if they hit a problem, but that doesn't seem to be common.

Sometimes the cause of the problem is either misdiagnosed and/or directly exacerbated by the school itself. Who do you turn to then? The students all know that any kind of weakness is frowned on, which means that sometimes they feel that they can't ask for the help they need.

Unfortunately, there seems to be an enormous lack of understanding in particular of emotional problems and an unwillingness to support them which is quite ironic considering studies have shown that very creative people have more of a tendency to suffer from these.  I wonder how much talent has been lost through lack of support?
