aurora, was that swan lake Newcastle by any chance. my eldest had only been en pointe a few months and she was also chosen to dance with eyb in Newcastle just en pointe. she was 11 at the time but days away from 12. did her confidence the world of good and i believe miss lewis would not have chosen her if not strong enough. my youngest has just started inter foundation and she is excited to be like her big sister but she's only 10 and so not ready.

is there a recommended age for getting your first pointe shoes. i have read no earlier than 12 but no of girls who started younger.
-
we recorded it and my two girls are watching it now. they both said please mum dont turn into one of them mums. Not a chance. So glad we dont do comps.

how strict are the rbs with their photos. just noticed that one of the photos we have had taken the arms are held out instead of being by the side. is it worth getting another one done before sending. only have until friday to get the forms in

so glad it would only be a 20 min drive for us if successful. not sure i would let her go for it if it wasnt so close. it would have too much impact on the rest of the family and my other daughters dancing

we will be going to Newcastle audition.

good luck for the mids eloise_please

thank you for your replies. she will be going for a year 6 place. think i will get her practicing her splits before the audition.

my youngest daughter has been recommended by her dance teacher to audition for rbs jnr associates. wondered what happens at the audition and how soon you find out if you have been successful. any tips will be greatly appreciated

shes 12 and in grade 6 rad plus intermediate. she also does seperate pointe, jazz, tap and hip hop classes. she doesnt want to be a ballet dancer anymore but maybe a dance teacher. she has experienced the English youth ballet twice which she loved but decided that doing that full time was not for her. I've just spoken to her and she wants to wait and hopefully get a better mark she's not bothered about not moving up with her friends so i guess i will take her lead on it. the exams are 3 months apart.

thanks everyone for your opinions. im going to have chat with her to see how she feels but i think the above comment regarding having a solid grasp on technique is probably more important than falling behind. if she is successful with her audition again this year then the same will happen again with missed classes
-
shes probably missed about 12 hourly lessons which i guess is a lot. we do have the dvd so she could practice at home but not sure when we would fit it in, what with school work and other dance lessons. i`ll have a chat with her teacher and my daughter to see how they feel. i didnt know whether lower marks would affect any career choices at a later date.

exam time is here again for my daughter. she has missed quite a lot of classes this year due to other dance performances/rehearsals. her school has 3 exam dates coming up. do i put her in for 1st exam to stop her falling behind or do i put her in for last exam for probably a better mark?

huddsballetmum, my two daughters are considering the york scholarship ss but are a little nervous. they have never gone to something like this before. they have no interest in going to vocational schools in the future. is this ss purely for dancers who wish to have dance a career or would 2 girls who are losing their love of dance a little be way out of their depth?
