No he does the ISTD syllabus. they don't do so many sessions for boys only.. thats why Tring has been great for him.

Being a boy does have its advantages sometimes... we did this last year... sure your DS will have a great time... does he do the kickstart programme for boys as well?

We are new to Elmhurst associates and waiting confirming for Birmingham.. was just wondering if anyone could shed any light on the audition itself... content.. etc.. and do they like to look for specific things... more than technique.. thinking along the lines of performance, and of course smiling!!

Any advice/guidance on those who have had this great experience would be really helpful. Thanks.

I am thinking more along the lines of the associate classes..(SAT one's)... accord to RBS stats they auditioned 272 and only took 27 out of these..anyone know if Elmhurst numbers are similar to this?

Does Elmhurst publish a breakdown of acceptance figures like RBS where you can see clearly how many students are accepted at each level?? I have tried to find this but no success.

Also are they known for their liking for certain 'physical' requirements (as are RBS) with certain body shapes/lengths or do they look for more 'technical' ability rather than a physical one.. or both!!

Not sure if anyone can help but I was wondering just how relevant audition photos are when it comes to selecting students??

Do the audition panel look at these photos before they even see the children.. or are they used a bit like on the 'x-factor... when they are looked at when making a final decision... or in fact are they not really used at all to determine whether the child gets through at all? Or or they only used as a guide and assessment comes from the practical element of the audition?

Also are some ballet schools such as RBS, Elmurst more known to use photographs as choosing student than others?

I cannot recommend enough Tring Park... they run a BOYS Kickstart programme one a month (term-time)... my son has been attending for the last two years and has found it an invaluable part of his training. Link attached:

They are boy only classes, and where possible they try to have male teachers as well.. their day can be spent doing a variety of dance inc Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, muscial theatre, etc. There is no audition.. you just fill out the forms and send in for each term and at only £15 for the whole day its 'priceless' in my opinion.

Hi there, we have entered the Stella Mann bursary (on the sat) which is taught at around Advanced 1 level.and are doing Intermediate on the Sunday..and we did have to fill out and pay for a separate entry to this... hope this helps... we are you staying??

Thanks... yes can see that from the programme we will be there on the sat and the sun so rather than coming home have decided to stay 'locally' as the venue is a good hour away from us...

Acutally no need to worry have had a very good explation from the ISTD so now know what we can expect..

I know there was a 'thread' to this on the old forum.. but does anyone have an experience of attending these? We are interested to know what the format is for the different grades during the actual sessions... do they take the format similar to a ballet exam.. i.e. bar, centre, etc... or is it more a mixture of the syllabus with free work added?

We are going along for the first time, so any help/guidance would be appreciated..

My DS has done four productions over quite a few years with EYB the last being the Nutracker in October last year.. he has always enjoyed the experience and most definately learn't from both the 'performing' side of ballet but also the 'technical' side as well. It is hard work and tiring for them but this far outways the sense of acheivement he has always felt at the end of the production.
