What happened to Ryo? Is he ok?
He limped offstage halfway through Requiem, in "Libera me" I think.....yes, I'm sure we all hope it's nothing serious!

Well apart from Hirano's injury, there was some kind of ruckus in the upper seats during DD, and a few minutes later a gentleman next to me in the SCS fainted, which entailed a bit of scurrying about, with doors opening etc...whether or not the performers were aware of any of this, we'll have to wait and see!

I'll take it please!

Would you be kind enough to tell me the "seat" number please?
Thanks!

Thanks everyone for diving in on this one! No, I certainly did not intend rudeness, but if that's how my comment was construed I apologise. I think my question has been answered now anyway, so maybe we can close the matter?

Have to? Well, perhaps it would be interesting to see what other people understand by what I wrote. For those with an interest in Petipa and Ivanov I don‘t think it is obscure.Well that leaves me none the wiser.

Sorry Geoff, but you'll have to explain what "non-idiomatic emotionalism" is.

As far as I know, if performers don't want to meet the public there are other exits they can use. Those who leave via the stage door are usually prepared and pleased to spend some time with their fans. Expect to wait up to an hour or so though!

I try and avoid the crowd at Covent Garden Station after a performance by nipping over to the Coach and Horses for a glass of Guinness...by the time I walk back down Floral Street the dancers are usually starting to leave, so if it's opportune and not too busy, I will thank them for their performance. It's a win-win really, as by that time the crowds have died down, and I can make a hasty getaway on the Picc! So in answer to your question, a minimum of 30 minutes.

I saw Eddie but had a Major oversight. I saw Susan Hampshire though, and Ralph FiennesI had a lovely chat with Susan Hampshire, who I see often at the ROH. She also gave me a chocolate.
More to the point, it was my third Manon, and I took a friend who hasn't seen much ballet before, and the performances left him spellbound! What a masterpiece.

Just sensational dancing last night, with beautiful performances all round but especially from Nagdhi and Bracewell with such wonderful and clearly expressed characterisation.
I was in tears when the curtain came down (which I think amused my neighbours, but oh well!).
I do think it’s a shame they only have two performances. I’d love to see them again this time around.
Great art can often move one to tears. And Manon is just that...you weren't the only one with "something in your eye " last night!

I always thought they were giving out flyers for a restaurant.

Hello All and Happy New Year. I’d like to book to see Nunez/Vadim in Swan Lake on 6/4 and (thanks to a birthday present from my husband) have a choice of the following seats front balcony A49, Front stalls circle A64 or Stalls D12 or M20. Which seat would afford a better view? I’m hoping some kind forum member can comment please. Thank you.
If you go on the ROH website and choose any performance, you can click on a seat number and get the stage view. Everyone has different preferences though - some people like to be close to the stage, to see the dancers better, whilst others would choose a higher seating position, to get a better overall view of the choreography. If I can, I try and do both at some time!

Full house tonight at the Curzon in Wimbledon. I thought it was an excellent performance and I really enjoyed the interviews etc. (Funny seeing the beautiful snowflakes stomping off backstage in the interval! Not that they really stomp, of course; but a combination of pointe shoes and turn-out does lead to a rather amusing walking style...).
Fantasy cast, from current dancers: Sugar Plums: Nunez/Muntagirov; Clara/Hans Peter: Hayward/Campbell; Drosselmeyer: Avis; Rose Fairy: Kaneko.
I think Marianela refers to that walk as her "ballerina waddle"!

Sadly, following the Coloseum's decision to close the cloakroom and sell hot dogs and popcorn to be consumed during the performance, I shall not be gracing them with my presence.
There was a debate on here earlier in the year, and some of us emailed the theatre. I was fobbed off with some lame excuse about people having to eat for "medical reasons"!
If they'd rather sell junk food to their patrons then they can forgo my ticket price.

I wholeheartedly endorse the above comments on tonight's performance, but would add Matty Ball - also wow!
In fact the whole cast and orchestra were on fire. Amazing evening of ballet.

I ordered the book from my local bookshop ( small country town) on publication day and they told me it should arrive by the end of this week - and they were right: I picked it up this morning.
And that's obviously the best way to do it!

LBC understandibly won't give out personal details, and no-one I've spoken to at the RB has any info either. Good luck!
-
I actually went to school with Bill, though he wouldn't know me, and I haven't seen him since about 1966. When I realised he had been resident photographer at the RB, I tried to find his contact details, but came up with nothing! Apparently he has since retired and donated all his work to the ROH, but if anyone can get in touch with him please let me know!

I was actually talking to one of the RB dancers tonight, and Mayara's fall came up. He made the interesting point that if, as a dancer, you're thinking "what's the worst thing that can happen" - and then you take a tumble, as long as you're not injured you tend to think , well it did happen and I'm still here so what the hell? thereby being spurred on to pull out all the stops. It certainly had that effect with Mayara last night!

I've a feeling that those of us fortunate to have been there last night were witness to a once-in-a-lifetime magical event - perhaps on a par with Judy Garland at Carnegie Hall, or James Brown at the Apollo. But really beyond comparison to anything I've ever seen, and I've seen some fabulous performances in my life!

@Balletbloke any class in particular? I was thinking of going to Inga’s intermediate.
I've only done beginners there, but I think the level of instruction is consistantly high.
