  1. We have some experience of French schools.  The Opera Ballet School in Paris and Rosella Hightower in Cannes.  In general, the process starts way later than the UK and it can be difficult to find information.  The websites are not fantastic.  The information only became available early in the new year.  The Opera Ballet School requires a video and pictures, and I believe this is all due in March.  The English translation is not fantastic, so I would encourage you to call and find out about their process.

For Rosella HIghtower, the first opportunity is in mid/late April.  There is also July auditions.  The process here is all in one day with first round early in the morning and second round in the afternoon.  Very few make it through!  Also, they go by year of birth rather than school year.  So my dd was 2006 birthday while some of her friends were 2007.  They were all year 11, but my dd was put in with the older year audition and her friend was for the younger year (two different dates)

From what I gathered, lack of French is not a problem as they adapt quickly.

    Hope this helps!

  3. Hello. My DD is there for the spring intensive right now. She started yesterday. She is really loving it but it is six hours of dance, so she is really tired at the end of each day!  They start with Pilates/warm up then ballet, pointe, jazz and contemporary. Each class 1.5 hrs. First day was an assessment to put them in groups according to age and ability.

She is not living there as her grandparents have a place in Cannes, so can’t comment on accommodation. Her ballet teacher is Silviane Bayard of Prix de Lausanne fame.  My DD says she is amazing and so glad she got her. Her class is only 15 dancers, but not sure if this might change for summer or the younger groups. She is in the top group where most are 18-20. She is 16. She said most of the other girls are around 13-14.  Teaching is a mix of French and English.

She says the studios are big and very nice.  All the other teachers are current faculty of Rosella Hightower. The timetables for spring and all the teachers are listed on the website right now.

    Hope this is helpful

Does anyone no if anyone is on the waiting list?

Yes.  DD on the waiting list.  No idea where on it she is.  Any knowledge of how long these lists tend to be?

As @expatballetmomsaid- it would also be a great opportunity to take classes elsewhere in NYC! “Steps on Broadway” seems to me like the NYC equivalent of Pineapple studio- although I didn’t go there during my time in NYC, I have since taken Elena Kunikova’s online class through Steps and she is brilliant so I would definitely recommend her class if you are in New York

    Thank you!!

  6. Hello all

Looking for some feedback on the Joffrey Ballet School SI's.  The New York City school, not Chicago.   Lots of mixed views out there.  I know it is not very selective and that the groups tend to be very large.  However, very little out there about the quality of the training or whether it is worth the money.  The list of teachers looks really good.

    Any feedback gratefully received.

    Thank you

  7. Dear All

We have just received the rejection letter from Tring Upper School.  It is heartbreaking when DD has several auditions to upper schools in the next coming months.  I would be grateful of examples of children who went on to receive offers from other Upper Schools after the Tring rejection.  I suppose that Tring must have much fewer places available than other upper schools given they have pupils moving up to the Upper School from the younger years.  My DD's dream is to pursue classical ballet as a career.

    Thanks in advance!

Hi MaguiRP, welcome from me too.  No, being part of TPA is definitely not a requirement for getting into CBA, don’t worry!  TPA is great if you are not already getting good quality local training.  It sounds like your dd is already in a good local school, so CBA (and/or RBS/Central Pre-Seniors) will add to that.  My dd was at CBA and Central Associates but wasn’t at TPA.

You are correct, Tring Park Associates is somewhat confusingly named because CBA is the scheme that is equivalent to RBS Associates, Central Preps and Pre-Seniors etc.

When do you need to make the decision about TPA?

Thank you. Not sure when I need to reply. Only got the offer earlier this week!  I’m hoping I can put it off for another week or so.

  9. Hello all.

My 15 year old DD has just been offered a place at TPA.  She has recently decided to pursue vocational ballet training, and so we are going to apply to the usual RBS and Central Associates Programmes for next September. She’s also auditioning for Tring Park CBA next weekend.
Her ballet training at the local ballet school has always been excellent and she absolutely loves it there. She also takes modern, jazz etc, so there’s not much in the TPA schedule that she cannot do where she is now.  If she accepts TPA, she would have to give it up. Is it worth it?  I’ve heard that TPA is slightly misleading in name as it is more like a very good local dance school, and that it is CBA that is comparable to the other ballet schools associate programmes.  We met Janet Devenish at the audition and she is lovely and tells me many of her advanced ballet pupils also do CBA.  but is TPA necessary if she’s successful in her CBA audition?  Your advise would be very welcome at this point!
