  1. Please see attached extract from unite tenancy terms and conditions. Definitely does not exclude under 18s from their properties.

1.8 The Tenancy Agreement is an Assured Shorthold Tenancy as defined by sections 19A and 20 of the Housing Act 1988 and the provisions for the recovery of possession by us in the Housing Act 1988 apply to the Tenancy Agreement. 1.9 Subject to clause 1.10 if when this Tenancy Agreement is completed you are under 18 years of age, the Tenancy Agreement will as a matter of law take effect as a licence to occupy until such date as you become 18. 1.10 You must be aged 17 or over before signing this Tenancy Agreement. 1.11 If you are aged 17 or over but under 18 years of age, you must notify us at least 4 weeks in advance of the Check In Date of any reasonable adjustments in connection with your occupation of the Room which you wish to request. We shall be under no obligation to make any adjustments, but will act reasonably in considering your request

  2. Parkway gate have rooms available just now, 44 week lease. When I toured the rooms they didn’t mention any issue with under 18’s. If a few are able to take up the rooms we can ask if they can keep NBS people together as there must be some ability to move single tenants about.

    Hi

My daughter also can’t go without funding - which we don’t know yet.
The deposit is £250 which you get back if you cancel so, I’m going to go ahead and book as accommodation is so difficult to secure in Manchester.
Many thanks for your response. Yes, please get in touch when you know what is happening.

Amy06 have sent you a message.

I was just on uS website as I was curious as to how Medlock was fully booked already. Which was unheard of when my DD was at NBS. The building is now only available to students enrolled at MMU but still operated by uS which has obviously impacted on accommodation availability for NBS pupils. Even though their places are confirmed long before A level results day and UCAS confirm places for MMU.

Pleased to hear that your DD is enjoying NBS and is settled in Dwell.

    😊

For anyone looking. There are rooms available at Parkway Gate tonight, not restricted to MMU.

  5. Hi

I was just wondering if anyone has any advice for Rambert auditions? Just wondering what kind of exercises are typically done in the ballet portion. I’ve heard only some people do solos and some do a physio exam, does this determine who gets offered a place or is it completely random?

Hi, at my daughters audition everyone did a solo. The audition comprised, warm up, ballet class, contemporary class and then improv group type class, followed by solos. There is a talk by the principal first which parents can attend but then you need to leave. I walked into Richmond which was about 15 minute walk along the river, plenty of coffee shops there.

If you decide to take a stroll to stretch your legs during the audition process, may I suggest to turn right out of NBS then right again. At the end of the road you will see Unite Students accommodation New Medlock and the adjacent Parkway Gate. This is where many students stay and will give you an overall idea of the area etc. uS staff maybe on hand to answer any questions you may have about the services provided. 😊

We made appointments with unite and viewed both, as you say they are just around the corner. They say they are fully booked for next year but if you are interested keep checking the website as rooms have been coming up in both.

Did the parents stay or go and come back for Q & A ? 😀

Parents come back for the Q&A. NBS look after the parents with tea and coffee set up for you in the morning in a studio where you can wait and then a presentation by the deputy principal after lunch break followed by a tour.

Hi - my daughter is in year two at NBS...

Did your children enjoy their Dance experience there?

    She loves it.

Did they find it easy to make their choice at the end of year 1?

Kind of. It was an easy choice for her but it's not only up to the student. Far fewer get to choose the Classical route as the teachers are strict on who makes it. You have to enter the training knowing that and with an open mind.

Do they still have a varied timetable thereafter?

Yes. I think the only thing to go completely between year 1 and 2 for my daughter on Classical was the Commercial classes. She still does everything else, but a little less. The Jazz group still do ballet but a little less.

What are the hours, is it Mon-Fri or do they also dance Sat mornings?

Monday to Friday. Hours vary but can be long, maybe 8.30-6.30 the longest. Most days more like 9.00-5.30 and the occasional early finish.

Does your dancer have a part time job?

No. I think a couple of her friends have something at the weekend. You wouldn't be able to in the week, it's so full on.

Where did they stay in the first year?

New Medlock House - Unite Students accommodation

    Quality of teaching?

Hard to say from a distance and without the ability to compare but if the evidence of the shows is anything to go by, it must be pretty good.

That’s amazing thanks so much for the info.

  9. Morning all.

Northern has been at the top of my DDs list since she was there in the Summer. We are auditioning soon and I just wanted to make sure that we were fully informed so we could ask all our questions when we are there. Did your children enjoy their Dance experience there? Did they find it easy to make their choice at the end of year 1? Do they still have a varied timetable thereafter? What are the hours, is it Mon-Fri or do they also dance Sat mornings? Does your dancer have a part time job? Where did they stay in the first year? Quality of teaching? For the Northern graduate how easy has it been to gain employment with a dance diploma from Northern. And most importantly did your dancer enjoy their time there.

    thanks
