  1. You are on your rt ft - left foot is in back on the ankle of the rt ft....

The left ft coupés (cuts under the rt ft and replaces it while the rt ft flashes out to the rt side in a low battement and then closes in back on the ankle of the left ft. as you land on your left ft.

    Does that help?

The tempo for this should be very quick.

Sounds like an RAD coupe foutte racourci sauté ;)

  3. Perhaps if your teacher has been working hard with you to get you up to exam level she is just disappointed that you've chosen not to take it and perhaps frustrated feeling she's wasted her time. I do understand your reasons but maybe if you'd told her sooner than you didn't wish to work towards it she may have taken it better. So she might just be a bit annoyed at the moment, give it time and she'll probably get back to normal.

By the way no, teachers don't make a profit from exams, only perhaps if she was running exam coaching or holding it at her studio - then she might have made a little but probably not much as there are usually so few students at that level that its hard to make any money!

  4. You could watch ballet and write them down for a living. There is a notation system which name escapes me. And it is a job, really...

There is labanotation which can be used for pretty much any type of dance I think and there's benesh which is just for ballet. The rad run courses in learning benesh so that's something you could look into.

  5. Is it possible the current grade 3 class is well into the syllabus and if he joined now her would have missed all the early preparatory work? But perhaps when they say he would skip to grade 4 there would be a group all beginning the grade together and therefore that it would be broken down and more digestible without missing big chunks of the underpinning? Just a thought...!

  6. Some is certainly better than none but all of it is better than some of it! Find a balance that your dd will manage. You could perhaps make it 15 reps twice a day? If that's still a struggle perhaps do half of the exercises in the morning and half in the evening. Also 1 day off a week might be a nice break for her and shouldn't hold back progress.

  7. If she does decide to run make sure she wears supportive trainers, only runs on even ground (preferably grass rather than concrete as its slightly soft) and warms up thoroughly beforehand. Even then I wouldn't do it more than a couple of times a week, especially if she's not used to it.

  8. Taking this exam in a couple of weeks. Does anyone know how many of the set exercises are seen in the exam?

    How many from the barre?

Also, are the adages seen on both sides?

Are all centre practise exercises seen - same for allegro??

You'll probably find that the examiner will miss just 2 or 3 barre exercises and a similar number or a couple more maybe in the centre. You need to prepare both sides of everything but she will only see one version of each exercise. You can choose which side you do fouettes and turns en manège, the examiner chooses sides for everything else.

You'll probably get plenty of short breaks unless maybe there's only 2 of you in the exam in which case it will be a bit more intense but you will still get a short break after each section (ie barre, adage, allegro etc)

  9. Sorry can't really help but your post made me laugh :P

I think I'd be tempted to buy the DVD, check things on there and then if she says something is wrong you could very innocently (i.e. non confrontationally) say "oh sorry, that's what they did on the DVD...but maybe it's changed...?" - shouldn't really be necessary though of course!

  10. I've just been reading about the class award and it says it is assessed but the result gives a broad indication of standard rather than a detailed breakdown.

So is it easier to pass than the exam do you think? If not I'm wondering why a teacher would chose that over exams. Perhaps for less confident children that need more guidance I guess. Just wondering if the pass level is the same...
