I’m the same - it gets so stressful reading these glowing reviews😆.  There are too many dancers whose interpretations I would love to see, plus the partners have been changed about a bit from the past few production pairings.  Often there is a dancer I would like to see but am not as keen on their partner, so I end up going with the pairing who tick more boxes for me.  I just can’t financially or time wise see more than the two I’ve booked, but I have huge regrets to not see Naghdi and Bracewell - I have a feeling theirs will be very special- especially as Laura Morera is coaching William Bracewell in his debut and she proved how amazing she is at coaching in the insight event!

I’m already wondering if the FOMO will get too much and I’ll end up booking a Friday Rush for them.  I think I might be afflicted with some kind of post-lockdown frenzy to see as much performing art as I can when I can, lest it be snatched away again.

I also agree with the post-lockdown exhilaration and appreciation of being able to see all these wonderful artists again!

Who have you booked to see? I saw the general and really enjoyed Lauren and Matty - especially Matty as DG.  I am also seeing Hayward/Sambe and Kaneko/Muntagirov. Was considering changing the Hayward performance to one with Campbell as DG as I loved their partnership last time around, but then reviews on the forum of Campbell's Lescaut persuaded me to stick with Sambe/Hayward and see Campbell cast against type!

Oh dear, now I'm going to regret not seeing that cast. I was already regretting not seeing Ball, as I thought he was very good in 2019. The problem with the Ballet Forum is that it feels like every cast I don't/can't see always seem to get reviewed as giving amazing performances so I feel disappointed & envious that I can't see them all.

I find exactly the same, Dawnstar! I always end up worrying that I've chosen the wrong casts or dashing about trying to get tickets for performances which have had rave reviews - it's exhausting!! Am going to try to rein myself in a little and enjoy the casts I was originally chose!

We now see that for Swan Lake 7 March those c30 seats are now available to be booked via the seat map. I imagine that seats for other Swan Lakes are also available.

Yes, I just came on the forum to say the same thing - I've just booked for 1st April 7pm which was showing seats available but then none were showing when the seat map loaded last night. Wondering if someone at the ROH has been reading the forum posts ...

Acri and Magri definitely appeared as Lescaut and Mistress in 2019 (not I think together. Acri was Lescaut in Morera’s cast with Hinkis, and I saw Magri with Corrales opposite Hayward and Campbell, which was a decidedly dream cast)

I was reflecting on that cast after today's rehearsal - I agree, a dream! I was disappointed that Hayward wasn't initially cast opposite Campbell in this run, but as it stands it looks as though I might get to see them again (though without Magri and Corrales this time round!). Sad for Takada though.

The RB has in fact done Les Sylphides a number of times in my 'era': I saw it at the ROH in 1978, 1981, 1991 and 2009. (I was surprised myself to see this! Feels much longer ago.)

DOH! Just gone back to the archive - I should have clicked further through - there are performances listed further on including the last in 2009 as you quite rightly stated!

But that was a long time ago - definitely time for a return....

Cescablue, I am with you on Les Sylphides! I can’t remember when I last saw it, but it must be more than 30 years! I think I saw it in a ENB mixed programme with Swansong and Scheherazade- something for everyone there!

A quick look at the ROH Performance Database shows a run of Les Sylphides in 1940 by the Vic Wells Ballet, and then a Royal Ballet School performance in 2017 and that's it!!  Definitely time for Mr O'Hare to consider a revival!

Maybe I'll have to look elsewhere for a chance to see it one day...

  8. Very much a nostalgic choice for me as I watched this on a VHS tape (Baryshnikov/Tcherkassy) over and over again as a teen - I'd love to see Les Sylphides!

I'd also love the chance to see Within the Golden Hour live and also Solo Echo...not sure the latter was popular enough for another showing though?!

    A slightly eclectic triple bill?!!

  9. Thanks to everyone who works so hard to keep this forum up and running! As a lone ballet-fan in my household it's lovely for me to be able to chat and read about all things ballet on these forums, and I so appreciate the warm welcome I had at the end of last year, and all of the chats and generous advice from members and mods. Here's to a great ballet year in 2024!

Was that as a Leading Flower & Rose Fairy Escort? If so then I noticed it on 20th. She's nearly a head taller than him when en pointe. I realise pairings can't always be an ideal height match, especially if there are last minute changes of dancers, but given at that performance she was the tallest of the 4 Leading Flowers & he was the shortest of the 4 Escorts it did seem a bit odd to pair them up.

Waiting enviously for reports of tonight's cast, which I would have really liked to have been able to see.

    Yes, that's right!

And I'm also looking forward to hearing about tonight - I tried to get a return for this evening after the matinee but they had none sadly!

  11. Back on a train having narrowly avoided missing today's matinee courtesy of SWR!!

On a more positive note, I really enjoyed the performance today. I found  Mariko Sasaki to be so assured and unhurried, absolutely lovely - the star of the show today. Joseph Sissens, my favourite, did not disappoint and Julia Roscoe was so elegant - not sure I've seen her in such a starry role before.

And Marianna and Giacomo - saw them in the Insight and loved them in that - fantastic to see the rehearsal to the performance (just wish I could have seen them as close up as in the Clore!).

I was really struck by the height difference between Nadia Mullova-Barley and Taisuke - didn't bother me, but it was noticeable!

Looking forward to hearing thoughts from other audience members today.

Oh, and shout out to our usher - she was on it, hawk-like throughout the performance - no mid-performance mobile phone shall pass! As it should be!
