Didn't Osipova clap this time?  She certainly did last week when I saw her.  The noise was perfectly audible in the amphitheatre.

I made comments about the floor in Raymonda when I posted after the performance I saw.  Nobody else said anything, so I assume this looks different depending on where you sit.  I shall be interested to see how it looks when I go to an Encore performance at the cinema.

On the subject of empty cinemas.  I missed it because November 5th is Firework night.  I thought at the time it was a strange day to do a live broadcast.

yes she did clap last night

Do you know if it is slated to be webcast or cinecast? Somehow, I can’t find the list of This season’s opera or ballet webcast offerings, as in past years...such as last year’s delightful Robbins tribute program.

Sorry I don’t know of any upcoming broadcasts and like you can’t find any information on the website.

Err, then why read it?  It might have started about Opera but actually relates to the Friends system that operates across ballet and opera.  Shutting down topics of debate because you personally aren’t interested seems somewhat OTT

Err, because I'm not clairvoyant and have to read something to know what it says.

Being relatively new to BalletCoForum and the world of dance and dancers I naively thought I'd only be reading things about dance and dancers in the forum topics.  My mistake.  I now know that a thread can meander anywhere.  And, re Kaufman, he/she could have been a visiting dancer alongside Hallberg in the coming season in a ballet called Fidelio for all I knew so I read on.

I am interested in booking a ballet package and so read the thread for information on ballet packages only to find the comments pertained to problems getting tickets for an opera hence my frustration.   Any experience you have of booking ballet packages that members are happy to share will be appreciated.

In my experience, be it ballet, sport, opera, Madonna, Kylie, Sir Elton John or Sir Ian McKellen, or any other popular performance anywhere around the world there are more bums than seats and I have had my fair share of disappointments.  No ticketing system can satisfy every demand for tickets and someone will miss out.  Win some, lose some but I keep checking for returns and often get rewarded.

I'll end on another happy note, I do like Beethoven's music and your flagging 'Fidelio' up as a 'hot' ticket may be fortuitous being perhaps the encouragement I need to get out of my comfort zone and give Kaufman a whirl.  I'll try for a ticket. Thank you.

  4. I read this forum because it is for dance and ballet lovers for whom I believe it was set up?
I am sorry that people have experienced difficulties getting tickets for non-ballet  and non-dance performances at the ROH but I don’t need to read about it here. Perhaps there is a forum for opera lovers where it would be more appropriate for them to vent their ticket frustrations?

If anyone experienced similar difficulties getting tickets for dance and ballet performances then  I suggest the discussion re-focus on this. If not, I move that the moderators end or delete this thread.

  5. Meanwhile at Cinderella this evening here in Manchester a child came wearing trainers with flashing lights around the soles. Parents oblivious to this for the greater part of the first act until suggested as being a distraction to those around....

On a more positive note, ushers stopping people taking photos both during the show and at the curtain call. Only a very few audience members attempted to take photos at the end of the show. How refreshing for once.

  6. As the French say “chacun à son goût”.

For me, different dancers bring different things on different days to the characters they portray on stage. This is the excitement of live performance. Carpe Diem. No two performances, even by the same dancer,  are identical nor should they be.  This is something to be celebrated not condemned. If not I’d be happy to see a ballet once and not return to it because there would be nothing new to discover.

As it happens, I’ve seen 3 Manon casts so far this run and each has pleased and entertained me for different reasons.

Never having seen him dance before, I for one, was ‘Bolled’ over (pls excuse the pun) by last night’s production. As the evening progressed Bolle and Nunez inhabited their characters more and more so that long before the end I was 100% engaged,  believed in and was moved by what I was watching.

I suspect that having found his ‘feet’ Bolle will shine even more on Saturday.

After last night, Robert has at least one new fan and, judging by the audience reaction during and after the performance and the multiple curtain calls that continued long after the lights came up, I suspect I am not alone. It was a special evening and one that I feel privileged to have seen.
