  1. I have an associates jacket size 9-11 (no hood style) and a JA character skirt (barely worn)  length 59cm, waist 60cm. The skirt could be let down as it has about a 2 1/2 inch hem.
    £10 for the jacket

    £20 for the skirt

    plus postage

Everything is tumble dried and washing is only done on certain days per week (though dancewear was done every day at dd's school) so the smell might become an issue and whether the school laundry was willing to handle them.

Ah - I see. I hadn’t thought of everything being tumble dried as I never tumble dry delicates like leotards or tights but I guess they just have to because of the large amount of laundry! Out of interest, what would they do if they did have an accident/leak?

  3. I can’t believe how much has changed since 2015 either!!! There are nude seam-free period pants by modibodi. They just pop in a normal 40 degree wash (just can’t be tumble dried) so don’t think it would be a problem at vocational school. I use them myself and laundering is the same as for any other pants to be honest!

Hi there - my DD is joining the JA year 6 in London i September.  What hair style should she be wearing, and where/how should the ribbons go??

Uniform has all arrived, we've done a 'trial' journey into Covent Garden to test traffic and parking, now it's just the fine details to sort out 🙂

Hi there, we’re joining Y6 also (not London) and I think I heard or read that buns are acceptable by Y6. I’m sure it said somewhere in the notes that the teacher will advise on hair in the first session anyway? I ordered ribbons but am not sure if they are worn in a bun or only if wearing the traditional plaited bun JA style..

I know we’ll get the uniform list later in the summer, but I wondered if anyone could help with letting us know what ballet shoes the Young Dancers wear please? Trying to get slightly organised and buy some things in advance!!

    Thank you 😊

They are satin full sole and you can order them from the same place as the other uniform when you’re sent the list.

I have the one my daughter used for Year 6. It was only worn for a total of about 30 minutes, as our teacher wasn’t especially into character!  (Skirt is 58.5cm waist, 63cm long)

That sounds like a good length - I’ll need to measure her waist tomorrow. Is that the max waist measurement? Thank you.

  7. Thank you for starting this thread. Does anyone know if the leotards come up small? I’m tempted to get a 3A for my daughter going into year 6 because she’s tall for her age.  But then again 3A is for age 12-14 which sounds a bit big!

  8. Hi, my daughter has a place with Elmhurst Young Dancers from September and is also taking the Jazz option. I just wondered if anyone knew, is the Jazz similar to ‘Modern Jazz’ (which she currently does classes in at her local ballet school)? Thank you in advance!

  9. My daughter is going to Elmhurst also. My daughter was in a gymnastics squad last year and got SWL for RB last year. She left gymnastics because she prefers dance and we couldn’t fit everything in! This year no for RB! To be fair though she was only doing a few hours gym rather than 16 and I don’t think it made any difference to the result. Maybe she could just do less hours gymnastics?

Hi, Ladies, a shout out to all those lovely London centre candidates waiting for their results...I wanted some advice (may take your mind off for those who are waiting). DD (aged 8 ) does around 16 hours of gymnastics a week (on the NDS pathway so compulsories/grades for those in the know) . She auditioned and got into Elmhurst but it was a no from Royal. Her heart seems to be in her ballet more and we actively ask her if she wants to give up her gymnastics. We worry about her over training but mainly about the effect it may have on her ballet wise IF this is what she wants to go with. Her coach is pretty harsh and I am not sure I want her in that environment (eg you've annoyed me, made me angry not running fast enough to vault etc), I am worried that the hours of gymnastics may have affected her Royal result, height etc. My husband is tall I am not (his mum was not tall but both him and his sister are tall), so not sure where DD will lie. I know it may seem like I am overthinking things, but in a way we do need to think this through now because of the hours of gym she does. She is in Year 3 (one of the oldest in her year) and auditioned for the year 4 class. In her audition there were lots of year 4's going into year 5's. I know it's really impossible to second guess what went wrong, but all her ballet teachers are surprised she didn't get in (two other girls got in for other years from her dance school), and her dance teacher took her to insight day where her teacher was positive they loved her. Not sure where it all went wrong? The other thing I can think I did remember seeing her in line up and thinking she looked particularly 'gymy' that day!!  I want to be able to support DD with her decision in either giving up gym or not if that is what she wants. So glad she is in Elmhurst as it seemed such a lovely positive environment for her.

  11. This is my first post having followed this thread! My daughter got a no for RB (Birmingham) but a yes for Elmhurst. Last year she got no for Elmhurst and SWL for RB!! So the result this year was surprising as she’d felt she was more likely to get into RB! She is thrilled with being offered a place at Elmhurst!
