bit of both i think
like so many things seperating out what exactly goes where is subjective ...
is 'right dancer i nthe right role ' aesthetics , artistry or both ? assuming the dancers in question are equally technically competent ?
I think the take away message has to be do discuss this with the teachers who wrote it,
I don;t teach dance ( because i do not have the experience , skills and knowledge to at this time) although i do and have taught other subjects at various levels and in various settings and in some assessment structures it can be a nightmare trying to work out which criterias are the best fit / the desired by the system fit to an area of work ...Thank you for your help it is kind of you to take the time although I think the advice I’m looking for would need to come from either a ballet teacher or someone with a child at a top vocational school as the reporting system is very specific .

there's a certain something about the line some people have , it can also cover 'sparkle' - also you could have someone who is technically very very good but just lacks as certain something ....
as for aesthetics, excuse my being a Northern Fangirl again, but in the triple bill , specifically in 'Shape of sound' , despite the lighting, costuming and starting positions you will instantly spot certain dancers ( e.g. Hannah Bateman) in the first minute because of their line and aesthetics ...I didn’t realise sparkle was connected to aesthetics would that not come under the Artistry category!

Sorry I’m not sure what this means ?

Thank you for your advice I will tell her these Marks can change . She was worried that if it was just body she couldn’t really change that .

Sometimes aesthetic marks can change as they get older as no one in year 7 looks the same as they will when older. For many schools the aesthetic mark is much more than just appearance. My daughters has changed significantly over the years so I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
Also I would encourage them not to share marks - my daughters group never has, better for them. She has a long way to go from year 7 so don’t let her start worrying about marks yet, they will all have different strengths and weaknesses.

Yes year 7

Could anyone please shed any light on ballet school reports ? My DD seems very unhappy with her first report . She has scored a 4 “ less than satisfactory “ for her aesthetics. Is this something that she can improve / change ? Her other marks were a satisfactory 5 apart from a 6 for artistry . She says all friends all scored much higher and is getting worried about her impending assessment. Any advice would be appreciated .

When is the closing date for WL SS ? I can’t seem to find it on the website . TIA

Does anyone have an advice re homesickness . Is it better to bring them home to break it up or better to make them brave it out and settle .

Hi could someone please explain the difference between the waiting list i.e. Priority WL and SWL ? So confusing .. thank you .

Thanks ballet jack for sharing your experiences . Sounds like your daughter has an many wonderful opportunities . I hope she enjoys the rest of her time as an SA and it all stands her in good stead for uppers schools .

Lovely couple of days DD really enjoyed it . We have both come away with the realisation that a place would be a very unlikely eventuality . She said there were some very talented girls there far more advanced than herself with "beautiful ballet bodies" I have to admit I felt that looking around . Just feel very honoured to have come this far was such an interesting experience . The dormitory tour was just lovely brought a tear to my eye to see all these little beds lined up with personal photos and teddys , such brave children to leave home to Pursue their dreams . The children we spoke to this morning were an absolute credit to the school , friendly , articulate and most of all so clearly very happy . Good luck to everyone now waiting and well done all round.

You can apply to the SS if you are not a JA balletmomma and I believe there are occasional offers of a WL place made at the summer school .

I'm sure if they're already junior associates that they would be informed if this is something the schools feels is right for that particular individual child . I very much doubt the child in question has peaked I'd like to think she is just ready for the next step just that little bit earlier . I really wouldn't worry about it your DD not going a year early , I personally think it would be quite tough on both the child and parents to leave home at such a young age , your DD's time to audition will come soon around soon enough . Good luck .

It's most definately not fake news , the little girl in question is very advanced and was moved up a year in her Ja class and has therefore been allowed to audition with her ja class a year earlier than usual .
-
So really you come out of the audition none the
Wiser , is there then some pecking order if they do get a place with the ones not in the call back knowing they were not up there with the children that got a place with no call back ? It all seems so cut throat for children so young .

Sixty seems a lot to take through , so around a one in four chance of gaining a place . Won't hold out too much hope .
-
That's fantastic well done daughtersdance , to your DD We loved Elmhurst , glad she is happy there .
-
Thank you daughtersdance and congratulations for getting that reserve place I really hope a space came up for your DD, have to say I hadn't even considered that possibility , I was thinking we would be out out of our misery either way in about a month .Despite getting a reserve place being a wonderful achievement it must have been stressful in itself .

If a child is not in the call back , are they less likely to be offered a place ?

My Dd got wait listed and a place came up very late in the day. She is now there full time . It can happen but probably best to make other plans too.
