  1. Hi  my daughter starting Hammond 6th form in September and wondered if any one can pass on any information regards Accomadation , not had a list from Hammond as yet  but sure it won't be long before we do , if anyone has been through the process of having to sort out Accomadation for Hammond any info will be great

    thanks

  2. orchidblue , what an amazing showcase , it was well worth travelling the two and half hours to watch it , my daughter got a feel for the place and we even spoke to some of the students afterwards , congratulating them on such a fantastic show of work and wished them well in their next stage of their careers.

  3. Yes happy mum over 1300 applied , and they auditioned around 500 I heard. Well organised, someone phoned from the cbbc and spoke to my daughter herself and asked her some questions about herself ect bit like a mini interview, think it was to see how they came across . Best of luck to your ds if they apply .

  4. Thank you Meltutu! It's Great to hear all the details of how it's organised. 135 is a lot of children! But I think I've heard that around 1300 applied online so well done to your DD for getting through to first round and getting 2 "yeses" - sounds like a fantastic experience!

  5. My daughter was lucky enough to get an audition last time , the video she sent in contained some ballet and modern dance to show her versatility, We got a phone call 3weeks later and was invited to the Cardiff audition , they send you prior to that a list of songs to choose from you pick your favourite three then they let you know which one has been chosen , once you have your song you let them know where you want it starting and finishing then they cut it for you and they have it ready at audition for you ,it's a minute long .

My daughter really enjoyed the audition process as did I , was great to see how these programmes are put together , the whole day was filmed.

My daughter was 2nd to last to dance that day there was about 135 there at audition.

You have to get three yeses to get to next round of auditions , my daughter got two out of three so sadly didn't get any further but what an amazing day we had , everyone so friendly and supportive of each other .Do agree though with what someone else has said though regards acting and performance , thats what they appeared to be looking for but didn't know that at the time .

Even though my daughter was not chosen to go through to next round she did appear each week on the open credits (she was the girl in a blue tutu ) so that was a bonus for her in her eyes .

Good luck tonall who apply , we had a great experience

  6. Hi Meltutu, my DD is currently in her graduate year there, 2dancersmum has covered the extra costs really but if I can help with anything else, just ask. My DD is in her own flat which worked out cheaper but she was 18 when starting so a bit different. As well as health insurance, we've had extra costs for physio/chiro treatment once the level covered by insurance was exhausted. Currently spending £40-£80 per week for treatment but hopefully not long term. Just extra costs like that are worth bearing in mind. x

  7. Thank you it certainly does , it's been a stressful few weeks as she has had 3 offers of a place and has been really difficult choosing where to train as she has enjoyed all 3 places where she has auditioned but Hammond offers her the Alevels which she would like to do , so this is her first choice x

  8. Congratulations to your DD. Mine went there aged 16 and was very happy, graduating a few years ago now.

When my DD was there it was perhaps 2-3 trips a year, each one below £30. You might get another associated with A levels if your DD chooses to do any.

Exams - RAD and ISTD - cost as per the exam board.

Accommodation - we found somewhere off the list the school gave us quite quickly. Quite stressful though. Landladies usually offer breakfast and evening meal and do the laundry.

Other things to budget for are uniform and health insurance.

    Hope this helps

  9. Hi im new to the forums

Just wondered if anyone already has a daughter/son already attending 6th form at Hammond who could help with some of my questions. My daughter has been offered a place in the 3yr diploma MT/Danve course

She will be going to the dada funding later in the year .We did an outreach audition so not visited the school as yet but I have done a lot of research but just wanted a parents /child's point of view

    My questions are

How much extra cost a year roughly would we expect to pay for extras like trips / exams ect

Was it easy to find accommodation and roughly how much it could Costs a mnth (my daughter 16yrs old so would need to be homestay /landlady)

These things will help me setting aside a budget for extra expenses

Any other information you think as a parent I would need to know prior to hopefully her starting would be great too , as I'm a new parent adventuring into this dancing world ,

  10. My daughter auditioned on 30th to for 6th form but we was in the morning audition , there was abound 25 in her class .Like you didn't find anything to complicated and it was set at an intermediate level the excersises., she enjoyed the audition experience despite the nerves .As a parent was nice to see the last 10mins of the audition . Not received our letter as yet of outcome , but good luck X

  11. I auditioned for 6th form entry yesterday and thought Id just share a couple of things. The audition was pretty easy, no complicated steps or long exercises but nevertheless it was tiring, vocabulary of an Intermdiate standard. There was only 16 of us because it was an extra audition that day due to over subscription so we got through the class quickly - only an hour and twenty. No pointe work which I surprised about but also relieved as Id only taken one toe pad . Everyone was in very very simple leotards, I definately had the fanciest, turquoisey blue with a bit if of lace. Only thing I found odd was that the exercises started with the right hand on the barre and so I started the excersises facing a wall and my back to the panel?! Panel seemed quite friendly but did quite a lot of pointing and whispering. I found the flexability part hard just because I'm not that flexible and so for me, that part really let me down but the actual dancing was good! Very few of the girls actually used their faces very much, people were pretty nervous! Felt like it went pretty well but it's always difficult to tell! x
