  1. I've heard of a couple of young dancers that have been offered waiting list spots for White Lodge summer school.  Anyone here had any luck?  My DD is on the waiting list but hasn't heard anything one way or another yet.

  2. Congratulations to those who've been accepted!  And well done also to those offered waiting list.  My DD was also offered a position on the waiting list for WL week 2 :)

Wait list for CG here too. Never expected to get a place, was really just testing the theory that all those at voc school get wait list. Any opinions?

We are in Australia so things are a little bit different here but my DD doesn't go to a full-time school.  She just does ballet 2 nights per week & Saturdays.  Sorry to blow your theory lol

  3.

I hope they show more of the action in the live streaming this year. Last year they hauled past winners in for interviews and made them watch and comment on their variations which no one seemed happy to do! It was rather uncomfortable viewing watching them cringe at their performances!

Yes, I would love to see more of the action than last year too.

  4. It's already the middle of the day on the 1st here in Australia.  I hate having to wait for London to catch up before I can receive my email ;)

I wonder what time they will be sent?  If they send them first thing in the morning, we will receive it before I go to bed tonight.  Otherwise I can wake up in the morning & read everyone's news, including our own :)

  5. My girls are 12 & 14, a few of their recent character solos have been a girl lost in the desert, Nikiya from La Bayadere, a girl at a grape harvest, a girl waiting up for Santa (this one was a nightmare for me with a Christmas tree & presents plus a table & chair etc for props).  All of these solos have placed in eisteddfods.

I'm also lucky that our teacher chooses the theme.  Good luck choosing something that your DD & her teacher are happy with :)

I do think that maybe they wait til after the forst round auditions to inform about SS places as how awful would it be for DC's to go into the WL or upper school auditions right after receiving a rejection email from RBS Summer School?

This sounds like a reasonable theory.  So when are the first round of auditions?

  7. Midwifelin the cost aspect is difficult. $8000 is around £4000 which is eye wateringly expensive for a summer school. But then on balance how many of you will be coming? Will the rest of the family stay in UK and have a holiday? My dd is currently looking at summer schools in Europe that for a fortnight would cost around £2000 for just her without flights.

Only her & I would come.  We just can't justify the expense for the whole family to come plus it's outside of school holidays so I wouldn't want to take the other girls out of school.

  8. The wait is killing me.  I realise the chance of my daughter being accepted is very low but if she was lucky enough to get in, we have to organise ourselves to get there from Australia.  I'd love to know sooner rather than later!

Speaking of which, for anyone who's children have been to the RBS summer school before, would you say it's worth the expense of international travel to go there?  My daughter's only 12 so would only be doing 1 week at White Lodge if accepted.  We'd probably be looking at around $8000 (AUD) for flights, airfares, accommodation & summer school.

  9. I agree with Jane, if you are staying in UK, then there is not a problem.  It is just so that in case of accident or emergency there is someone in UK who is legally responsible for the child and can be reached quickly.  Obviously anyone over 18 doesn't need a guardian.

Great, thanks.  That definitely makes sense :)

  10. Hello Midwifemel and welcome to the Forum.

    Thanks :)

If your dd gets a place were you intending to be in UK with her? If so I suspect you wouldn't need to arrange a guardian. If not the school will have details of guardians I'm sure.

Yes, I would come with her but the RBS website suggests that it needs to be a resident of the UK to be a guardian.

Children from abroad who are at boarding school in UK (whether dance or general education) also need a guardian.  There are many reputable businesses set up for exactly this.  So if all else fails, I am sure one of these could be engaged on a short term contract.

I can certainly appreciate that it would be needed for international children that are attending schools (dance or academic) full-time but I thought that if I was staying in the UK with her for the 1 week she's at the summer school that it might not be needed.  Anyway, I'm probably worrying about nothing because chances are she won't be accepted in the first place.  I'm just a planner & like to have these sorts of things sorted in my own mind ;)

  11. I've just submitted my daughter's application for the 2016 summer school.  We live in Australia & on the final confirmation page it said that all international students who receive an offer of a place, need to name a guardian resident in the UK.  We don't know anyone in the UK so I was just wondering how we go about organising for someone to do this?  Is there any other international families who have had experience with this?  I know there's a high chance she won't get accepted & then I don't need to worry about it but I'd just like to have some idea on the off chance that she does get accepted.  Thanks :)
